20.Although problems are a part of our lives,it certainly doesn't mean that we let them rule our lives forever.One day or the other,you'll have to stand up and say-problem,I don't want you in my life.
(36)E Problems with friends,parents,girlfriends,husbands,and children-the list goes on.Apart from these,the inner conflicts within ourselves work,too.These keep adding to our problems.Problems come in different shapes and colors and feelings.
But good news is that all problems can be dealt with.Now read on to know how to solve your problems.
Talk,it really helps.What most of us think is that our problem can be understood only by us and that no talking is going to help.(37)B Talking helps you move on and let go.
Write your problems.(38)C When you write down your problems,you are setting free all the tension from your system.You can try throwing away the paper on which you wrote your problems.By doing this,imagine yourself throwing away the problems from your life.
Don't lose faith and hope.No matter what you lose in life,don't lose faith and hope.Even if you lose all your money,family…you should still have faith.(39)F
Your problems aren't the worst.No matter what problem you get in life,there're another one million people whose problems are huger than yours.(40)G Your problems might just seem big and worse,but in reality they can be removed.
Go about and solve your problems because every problem, however big or small, always has a way out.

A.When we have a problem,a pressing,critical,urgent,life-threatening problem,how do we try and solve it?
B.But the truth is that when you talk about it,you're setting free the negative energies that have been gathering within you.
C.Having a personal diary can also be of huge hlp if you don't want a real person to talk with.
D.We can often overcome the problem and achieve the goal by making a direct attack.
E.Of course,we've been fighting troubles ever since we were born.
F.With faith and hope,you can rebuild everything that you lose.
G.Tell yourself:when they can deal with them,why can't I?
19.A pioneer who made poor lands bloom is the winner of this year's World Food Prize.Daniel Hillel developed drip irrigation(滴灌) techniques that squeeze the most crop out of a drop of water,making farming possible in places where water is scarce(缺少).
Farmers now rely on it in water-scarce regions from Spanish vineyards,to African onion fields,to America's fruit and salad bowl."Wein California grow about 50percent of the fruits and vegetables of the continental United States,"says University of California at Davis hydrologist Jan Hopmans."And the reason that is possible is because of,indeed,these drip and micro-irrigation techniques."
Hillel got his start in dryland farming as a pioneer in Israel's Negev Desert in the 1950s."The issue was efficient use of water,"he says,"because land is available.It's extensive.Water is limited."These desert farmers did not have the luxury of running irrigation water through channels to their crops,the way farmers have since ancient times.So Hillel and others gave plants just what they needed,just where they needed it.
"The idea was to apply the water little by little,the way you spoon-feed a baby,"Hillel says.It worked so well that Hillel was soon traveling the world,showing others how to do it.Experts say drip irrigation is an innovation whose importance is growing,as climate change and rising population strain(使…紧张) water supplies in many parts of the world.
"This is where water use,water availability,water-use efficiency and climate change and crop production all converge,"Hillel says."And this has been really the essence of my career."

18.I was born and raised in Minnesota,the USA,but as an adult I have mostly lived in Europe and Africa.I teach cross-cultural management at the International Business School near Paris.For the last 15years,I've studied how people in different parts of the world build trust,communicate,and make decisions especially in the workplace.
While traveling in Tokyo recently with Japanese colleague,I gave a short talk to a group of 20managers.At the end,I asked whether there were any questions or comments.No hands went up,so I went to sit down.My colleague whispered to me,"I think there actually were some comments,Erin.Do you mind if I try?"I agreed,but I guessed it a waste of breath.He asked the group again,"Any comments or questions?"
Still,no one raised a hand,but this time he looked very carefully at each person in the silent audience.Gesturing to one of them,he said,"Do you have something to add?"To my amazement,she responded"Yes,thank you."and asked me a very interesting question.My colleague repeated this several times,looking directly at the audience and asking for more questions or comments.
After the session,I asked my colleague,"how do you know that those people had questions?"He hesitated, not sure how to explain it,and then said,"It has to do with how bright their eyes are."
He continued,"In Japan,we don't make as much direct eye contact as you do in the West.So when you asked if there were any comments,most people were not looking directly at you.But a few people in the group were looking right at you,and their eyes were bright.That indicates that they would be happy to have you call on them."
I thought to myself I would never have learned from my upbringing in Minnesota.Sinc then,I try to focus on understanding behavior in other cultures I encounter,and keep finding the bright eyes in the room.

28.What can we conclude from the first paragraph?C
A.Life in Minnesota has made the author worn out.

30.Where does the uthor's colleagu probably come from?A
A.Japan.B.America.C.Africa.D.France
31.Which is the proer title for the passage?B
A.Focusing on Behavior in Cultures.
B.Looking at Another Culture in the Eye.
C.Sharing Different Cultures in Tokyo
D.Admiring the Beauty in the Eye.
16.To be honourable is to be kind,and genuine without expecting  reward for your behaviour.It's a rare combination of virtues,but with practice anyone can be honourable.Do you want to be the type of person who stands up for your beliefs and who rescues your friends when they need you?Start by doing little things,like showing up when you say you will or asking your friends if they need a hand.When you practice living honestly in a daily way,being honourable will become second nature to your.
To behave honourably,firstly you need to work for what you want.Do you want a new car?Some new clothes?You deserve all of these things,but don't use shortcuts to get them.It's so much easier to take the easy way out,but this usually requires hurting someone else,and if you do it often enough it'll result in bad results.Instead,if you want something,work for it.So don't keep borrowing money from your friends and family and get a job instead.Don't take credit for someone else's idea and come up with your own instead.
Secondly,speak the truth.Honesty and honor go hand in hand.Always telling the truth will certainly make you uncomfortable at times.But finally,people will appreciate that you're someone who tells it.If there's a situation in which you don't feel comfortable telling the truth,just don't say anything.It's better than lying.Even so,it's important to tell the truth as often as possible.
Thirdly,come to people's aid.True honor is demonstrated when you're called upon to do something you really don't want to do,and you do it anyway.For example,maybe you're in the car on the way to airport to catch a flight to Venice and you witness a car run off the road and hit the guardrail.Even though it means you're going to miss your flight,you stop and offer your assistance.
Lastly,never manipulate(操纵) people.Part of being honourable is admitting the effect your words and actions have on other people.You have the ability to help,and you have the ability to hurt.Don't mess with people's emotions as a way to get what you want.It's easy to do this without even realizing it,so try to be more aware of the impact you're having.For example,don't take advantage of other people's weak points,like using someone's illness to gain an edge on them.Don't think of controlling those around you.Let them make their own decisions.And also don't cheat people into doing what you want.
Acting on an honourable basis
Introduction◆Being honourable is a combination of (66)kindness,genuineness and other virtues.
◆You can become honourable by keeping your (67)promise,helping others,living honestly and doing other little things.
TipsWork for your wants.◆Don't get what you want in a way that may (69)hurt others.
◆For example, get a job or raise your own idea.
Be honest.◆Keep telling the truth,so that you'll win others'(70)appreciation in the end.
◆When you feel uncomfortable with telling the truth,keep(71)silent instead of telling a lie.
Be (68)helpful.◆Do something good that you are actually (72)unwilling to do.
◆For example,on the way to the airport,you stop to help a car in trouble at the (73)riskof missing your flight.
Never control others.◆Don't cheat others or take advantage of their (74)weakness to get what you want.
◆Allow others to make decisions (75)independently.

14.Your manager comes to you in a panic and asks you to take the place of Sharon, who will be out of town all next week.Your first thought is,"Why me?"Although you are not so happy, you smile and say,"No problem."Your boss is making t he request, after all,so refusal is not a choice.Right?
Not necessarily. In some cases,"Sorry,I can't"may be the most proper response. Here are two examples of situations in which it might make sense to say no and suggestions for how to turn down the boss.
"It seems that Joe can't make the deadline again. Can you handle it?"
The solution(解决方法):If your boss does need your help, taking on the extra work is the right thing to do and can earn you valuable bonus points. However,if these situations arise regularly,to the point where they begin to interfere (干扰) with your regular work, you may need to start pushing back.Next time your boss approaches you seeking emergency help, you might say,"Of course I'll help. But,as you know,I've had to cover for others a lot lately, and it's affecting my own work.Once we get through this project, can we talk about how to better get used to these types of requests in the future?"
"Sorry, but you have to work late again tonight.OK?"
The solution:Most employees understand that there are times when they must stay late to finish their work. But when these requests become frequent, you should speak up.Putting in extra hours every day can quickly lead to breakdown.
Therefore, you might say to your manager,"We're all working a lot of extra time lately. And these hours are becoming difficult for me to maintain(维持).Will we need to keep this pace much longer? If so,could we talk about ways that might help me achieve a better work/life balance during this period?"
It's never easy to say no to your boss. But in some situations it's necessary.Even the best managers can fail to recognize when they're asking too much of their employees.Yes,sometimes you must give in when asked to do something you don't like. But that doesn't mean you must agree to unreasonable requests without question.

13.We bet that on cold wintry days, many of you love to stay in your warm home and, every now and then, come out into the kitchen for a snack.Unfortunately, plenty of creepy-crawly critters (爬行生物) like to do the same thing!
Winter is the time when bugs (虫子) invade your house without an invitation. The season can be tough for such creatures. In winter the air is cold, the ground is hard and many trees have no leaves. So bugs do what they have to do to survive.
Monarch butterflies head south to warmer climates.Ants crowd in deep underground colonies and eat food they have been storing all year. Many insects go into a deep sleep called diapause. There're different kinds of diapause, but all are similar to hibernation,a time when bigger animals become inactive in the cold.Insects go into an inactive period, too, but it often isn't when the temperature drops.
They rely on more dependable signals in the environment. For example, many insects can tell how much sunlight there's each day. They use that to tell them when to shut down.Bugs are cold-blooded,meaning that their inside temperature is the same as the outside. They can't move much when it gets below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. So they search for any warm place.
They're looking for protection. These guys have been doing this for 300 million years,so they don't really know they're coming into your house. The home is a recent event in terms of their evolutionary behavior. They enter through tiny cracks or come in unnoticed on your clothes or shoes.Remember that they may be invading your homes for warmth and food, but they don't care about humans.
