My brother,Mark, died in a traffic accident four years ago. He was my big brother and 1 looked after me. I am 2 today for all of the special times we had as running partners, and times 3 driving to different races, where we had so many 4 about life in general. I 5 these talks terribly at this time of the year.
6,I am so happy he shared with me the 7 of his faith. He was always so 8 to people, and I had been with him many times 9we pulled over to help someone in need,10 a smile and helping them get back on the road. So I was not 11 when he told me of the time when he was 12 in college. It was the end of the month. To make matters worse,it was Friday and he had no 13 in his pocket for the weekend. Payday was Monday and he had no gas money to get home to 14 my dad and no money to buy food but he had faith that helping others 15 helping yourself.
On his way home from classes that day,as he was driving along,he noticed a guy ahead of him 16 his lumber (木材) all over the road as he turned the corner. Mark 17 right over and helped him load the lumber back into his truck. The guy was so thankful and 18 his hand to Mark, and in it was one hundred dollars. Mark couldn’t believe his 19. He told him that was unnecessary but the man 20 and off he drove.
I still think of Mark sitting there telling me that story, with tears in his eyes, and how faithful he was.

Dad was not only my best friend, but my compass (指南针). While he was alive, he 1 me with his actions and advice. He taught me one important 2: “Believe in yourself.”
If there was one phrase my dad 3 liked to hear, it was “I can’t.” He never got to finish high school and 4 two jobs to support his large family, 5 he never complained. Through education and years of hard work, my dad became an excellent journalist.
When I was in high school, I had a 6 time with math. He tried to help me, but I 7struggled. So my math teacher suggested I meet with him at 7:00 each morning before school for 8 help. I told Dad, “That’s 9! I’m tired! I can’t do that!” He replied, “You’re doing it. I’ll send you to school.” Every morning at 6:45, we’d leave the 10. Despite (尽管) working 12 hours every day, Dad never once 11 driving me to school.
After months of 12, I was facing the final exam. I was so 13. On the day of the final, my dad hugged me and said, “Luke, 14 yourself. You can do it.” His words made me realize I needed to trust in my 15 and in the hours of work I’d 16. When I got my 17 proudly, the first person I called was my father. He cried, “Yes! You deserved it!”
Even now, whenever I 18 that a task is too much for me, I think back to that exam. No matter how 19 something is, if you’re willing to work, you can succeed. I’m forever 20 to Dad for that lesson.

A daughter complained to her father about her life and how things were so hard for her. She was 1 of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one appeared.
Her father, a cook, took her to the 2. He filled three pots with 3 and placed each on a high fire. In one he placed carrots, in the second 4, and in the last ground(磨碎的) coffee beans.

When I was 17, I read a quote: “If you live each day as if it were your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made a(n) 1 on me,and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the 2 day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to 3 something.
Remembering that I’ll be 4 soon is the most important tool to help me make the big choices in life, 5  almost everything—all expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure—just falls away in the face of death, 6 only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to 7. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.
No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to 8 don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever 9 it, because Death is very likely to be the single best invention of Life. It clears out the old to 10 for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will 11 become the old and be cleared away.
Your time is 12, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice.Everything else is secondary.

The telephone rang in the police station at Richmond, California, US. “1station? A train for Santa Fe collided (相撞) a 2at the McDonald Street Crossing. Please come here at once. With an ambulance(救护车),too. A man is badly wounded,” said a(n)3voice of a young woman.
“OK. We’ll come soon. Please stay there and wait.” Replied the policeman.
Within a minute, a police car and an ambulance4off. Soon they got to the crossing, but only to find everything was5. No collision, no wounded man.
“What a dirty6!” said the policeman angrily. “ We must find out that mischievous (恶作剧)7
and…”
They had not been able to say anything about a8when they heard the whistle of a train was nearing them quickly. All of a sudden, a truck appeared. It came9towards them, too. When it was passing the crossing, it suddenly10to move on. Right then and there, before the eyes of all the people present, the train collided with the truck heavily and struck it dozens of metres away.
When Randolph Bruce, the driver , was helped out of the damaged truck, he was badly wounded just as the young woman had foretold (预言) on the phone. As he was taken to hospital in time, he was11at last. Later the police did whatever they could to12the woman who had13them, but failed.
It is really14that a prophecy(预言) should agree with the fact so15.

When an NBA player is young, he thinks he can win the championship by himself. It is only later 1 he has aged and been through many battles that he learns an important lesson: there is no “I” in “team”.
There is no better example of the value of 2 than the Boston Celtics. Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett were all superstars on three different teams. 3, none of them had any titles(头衔) to show for it. Then, last season, they decided to play together, caring little 4 money and fame. Garnett and Allen 5 Pierce on the Celtics and changed the NBA in the process.
It started in simple ways. Garnett and Allen are two of the best athletes in the world. They treat every second of every 6 as it is the NBA championship. If you want to play alongside them then you will have to do the same. Therefore, the young guys on the Celtics started giving their 7 effort too.
Pierce had been the star of the Celtics for many years. He used to shoot the ball many times a game. But with the addition of Allen and Garnett he shot less and 8 defense(防卫). His selflessness showed the young players that doing what made the team better was the only thing that 9. When the Celtics were winning and the game was almost 10, Garnett, Pierce and Allen would come out of the game. But they wouldn’t just sit on the bench. 11, they stood and cheered and screamed for their teammates. They wanted to 12 their friends and teammates.
Now, the guys who don’t play know they can still affect the game by cheering, so they scream and cheer when Garnett, Allen and Pierce are playing. The Celtics have 13 a strong relationship. They are 14 just teammates. They are brothers.
The result: the Boston Celtics won the 2008 NBA championship and are considered the favorites to win the Eastern Conference championship again this year. There is a saying that goes, “A successful team beats with one 15.” If that is the case, the Celtics may have the biggest heart in the NBA.

      tip

When I was a little girl, my father loved to play catch(接球) with me. I wasn’t very good at it, 1 we would play anyway. He was always telling me “Keep your eye on the ball” as I would not be able to catch even the 2 of throws.
As I got 3, we didn’t play catch as much. If I had a problem and would go to my father to ask for his 4, he would try to 5 with me and say “Keep your eye on the ball”. We would both laugh 6 usually that advice was not useful to the problem, but he would try to make me 7.
My father became 8 in 1995 when I was 23. There weren’t any more conversations, as he suffered from a stroke(中风). 9 could not speak. He could only give 10 words, which were sometimes hard to understand. I seemed to be pretty good at 11 his lips(唇) after a while, even better than the 12 who were caring for him there.
During one of our last conversations, I was telling him about a problem I was having with my boyfriend. 13, I could read his lips: “Keep your eye on the ball.” We both smiled.
That was the last time I saw my father 14 he passed away.
Sometimes, all these years later, when I get in trouble, I just 15 myself “Keep your eye on the ball”.
