All children in the United States have to receive an education, but not all children go to school. A number of parents1not to send their children to school. Such children are known2 “home-schoolers”. Some parents prefer teaching their children at home3they do not believe schools teach the correct religious (宗教的)4; others believe they can provide a better educational5for their children by doing so.6 , results show home-schooled children often do better than 7on national tests in reading and math.

Children model themselves largely on their parents. They do so mainly through identification. Children identify   36  a parent when they believe they have the qualities and feelings that are   37  of that parent. The things parents do and say---and the   38  they do and say to them--therefore strongly influence a child’s   39 . However, parents must consistently behave like the type of   40  they want their child to become.
A parent’s actions   41  affect the self-image that a child forms   42  identification. Children who see mainly positive qualities in their   43  will likely learn to see themselves in a positive way. Children who observe chiefly   44  qualities in their parents will have difficulty   45  positive qualities in themselves. Children may   46  their self-image, however, as they become increasingly   47   by peers groups standards before they reach 13.
Isolated(孤立的) events,   48  dramatic(突然的) ones, do not necessarily have a permanent   49  on a child’s  behavior. Children interact such events according to their established attitudes and previous training. Children who know they are loved can,   50 , accept the divorce of their parents’ or a parent’s early   51 . But if children feel unloved, they may interpret such events   52  a sign of rejection or punishment.
In the same way, all children are not influenced   53  by toys and games, reading matter, and television programs.   54  in the case of a dramatic change in family relations, the   55  of an activity or experience depends on how the child interprets it.

By teaching your children fire safety rules you can ensure they know what to do when a house fire occurs. Making sure your children know exactly what is required of them cuts down the chaos of the emergency situation and helps keep your family safe and secure.

All children should know about important fire safety procedures. For example, tell your children to stay low to the ground in a smoky room, which keeps them from breathing smoke, as smoke always rises towards the ceiling. Also tell them that they can put a damp towel or a piece of clothing over their faces and breathe in through it to cut down the effects of breathing smoke even more.

In addition, make sure your children know how to correctly stop, drop and roll when their clothes catch fire. Because it results in loss of oxygen, which puts out the flames. Also your children should know to touch door handles before opening the doors to see if they’re hot. If they are, it means there’s a fire in the next room, and they should leave the door closed and find another route out of the house.

Make sure your children never play with lighters or matches. Usually, many children are attracted by lighters and matches and want to experiment with setting things on fire to see what happens. So hide lighters and matches in some place your children can’t reach.

Do regular fire drills to act out and improve your evacuation(疏散)plan. Make sure everyone knows all the possible exits of the house they can use, and that all members of your family know your evacuation plan well enough so that they don’t have to waste time thinking if a fire starts. Quick, determined response to a fire will save your family members’ lives.

Each child has his individual(个人的)pattern of social, as well as physical, development. Some of it depends on his home life and his relationships with the people who love him. Children in large families learn how to get along with others through normal brother- sister play and tussles (打斗). An only child, on the other hand , may have to learn his lessons in social living through hard experiences on the playground or in the classroom. Twins who always have one another to lean on may be slow in responding to others because they do not need anyone else.

A child who is constantly scolded and made to feel he does everything wrong may have a difficult time developing socially. He may be so afraid of displeasing the adults around him that he keeps to himself (where he can’t get into trouble)or he may take the opposite route and go out of his way to create trouble. Like the deserted child, he too may return to infantile (幼稚的)pleasures, developing habits that will satisfy him, but create barriers(障碍)toward social contact.
