Recently a university in Yunnan province published a list of the 100 most frequently borrowed books from its library. Surprisingly, not a single classic from home or abroad appears on the list. Instead, included in the list are mostly web books written by unknown web writers.
Most university students admit that they seldom borrow classics, saying the obscure language used in classics makes them difficult to understand, while web books are much closer to life. However, university teachers hold a different view. They believe firmly that a good book can influence the lives of people and therefore university students should read as many Chinese and foreign classics as they can.
Personally, I think university students should be encouraged to read books of any kind so long as they are beneficial to their future development.
