Many people have influenced various aspects of my life, based on their personal characteristics, accomplish?ments, and values. I have been fortunate to have had numerous teachers and professors who I respect for their patience and intelligence. There are artists that have inspired me by their natural talents and original creativi?ty. I value many political leaders, who have inspired me by their contributions to society, and their abilities to change our futures. But of all the people I have known in my life, the person I admire most is my father.

As the youngest girl in my family* I always consid?ered myself to be "Daddy's little girl". While I grew up, it always made me sad to see so many of my friends and neighbours without a father or father-like figures around. This helps me appreciate how my father always takes an interest in his children's lives. In every aspect of my life my father continuously pushes me to excel, so I could accomplish my work outstandingly among my people. Whenever I feel like giving up, or have a ques?tion or a concern, I know I can always call on him for advice. From him I have also learned that sometimes you have to put others' needs ahead of your own, but you should make sure you are not taken advantage of by others. His strength seems to be unbreakable during hard times, and he is extremely determined to accom?plish anything he sets his mind on, no matter how tiny it is. I highly respect him for how he stands up for what he believes in, and will never back down. I have always admired his open mind, compassion for people, and sense of understanding. He is a very reserved man, but to everybody's surprise, he has a great sense of hu?mour, and always knows how to put a smile on the faces of his wife, his children and his friends.

Living in his affection and instruction, I am very proud of my father. He also professes how proud he is of his children, and is still there to support us in what?ever we are involved in.

But of all the peo?ple I have known in my life, the person I admire most is my father."

He is a very reserved man, but to everybody's surprise, he has a great sense of humour* and always knows how to put a smile on the faces of his wife, his children and his friends.,,可知,C选项中的sociable"友善的,好交际的"和文中的reserved"保守的,冷淡的"是相反的含义,所以用sociable描述作者的父亲是不恰当的;文中也没有信息显示作者的父亲很博学。故选(:。

A    词义猜测题。根据这个词后面的内容"…so I cxmld accomplish my work outstandingly among my people.,,可知在"我们"那群人中,"我"可以突出地完成工作。A项符合题意,即父亲让"我"超越别人。

C 推理判断题。由第二段的第二句"While I grew up, h always made me sad to see so many of my friends and neigh?bours without a father or father-like figures around."

China is going green. In order to reduce air pollu?tion and oil shortages, automobile manufacturers have announced their plans to develop hybrid vehicles(混合动力车辆)for the Chinese market. Toyota's hybrid car Prius will be ready to drive in China this week. Let's have a look at the new car.

Any vehicle is a hybrid when it combines two or more sources of power. Hybrid cars run on a recharge?able battery and gasoline. Hybrid cars have special engines, which are smaller than traditional gasoline engines. They run at 99 per cent of their power when the car is cruising(匀速行驶).A specially designed bat?tery motor provides extra power for running up hills or when extra acceleration is needed.

Step into a Prius, and turn on the engine. The first thing you notice is how much quieter it is than a tradi?tional car. At this point, the car's gasoline engine is dormant(休目民).The electric motor will provide power until the car reaches about 24 km/h. If you stay at a low speed, you are effectively driving an electric car, with no gasoline being used, and no waste gas gives off.

The on-board (车载的)computer makes the decision about when to use a gas engine, when to go electric, and when to use a combination of the two. If you go over 24 km/h, when you step on the gas pedal (油门),you are actually telling the computer how fast you want to go.

The electronic motor recharges automatically using a set of batteries. When driving at high speed, the gasoline engine not only powers the car, but also char?ges the batteries. Any time you use the brake, the elec?tric motor in the wheels will work like a generator and produce electricity to recharge the batteries. As a conse-qiience, the car's batteries will last for around 200,000 miles.
