题目内容

“Who made your T-shirt?”A Geoletdown University student raised that question.Piertra Rivoli, a professor of business, wanted to find the answer.A few weeks later, she bought a T-shirt and began to follow its path form Texas cotton from to Chinese factory to charity bin(慈善捐赠箱).The result is an interesting new book, The Travel’s of a T-shirt in the Global Economy(经济).

Following a T-shirt around the world in a way to make her point more interesting, but it also frees Rivoli from the usual arguments over global trade. She goes wherever the T-shirt goes, and there are surprises around every corner. In China, Rivoli shows why a clothing factory, even with its poor conditions, means a step towards a better life for the people who work there. In the colorful used-clotting markets of Tanzania, she realizes that,“it is only in this final stage of life that the T-shirt will meet a real market,”where the price of a shirt changes by the hour and is different by its size and even color, Rivoli’s book is full of memorable people and scenes, like the noise, the bad air and the“muddy-sweet smell(泥土香味)of the cotton,”she says.“Here in the factory, Shanghai smells like shallot water Texas.”

Rivoli is at her best when making those sorts of unexpected connections. She even finds one between the free traders and those who are against globalization. The changes opened up by trade are vast, she argues, but free markets need the correcting force of politics to keep them in check.True economic progress needs them both.

答案:1.B;2.C;3.A;4.D;
解析:

(1)

这是一道推断题。根据第一段最后一句“The result is an interesting new book, The Travel’s of a T-shirt in the Global Economy”可以知道Rivoli通过T-shirt的生产运输过程来研究全球经济。

(2)

这是一道推理题。根据“where the price of a shirt changes by the hour and is different by its size and even color”T-shirt的价格每时都在变,所以要迎合市场。

(3)

这是一道指代题。根据“but free markets need the correcting force of politics to keep them in check.True economic progress needs them both”自由的市场需要政治力量来维持其秩序,所以them应该指代的是free markets。

(4)

  这是一道主旨题。本文主要讲述了Rivoli通过研究T-shirt的生产、贸易过程,并从T-shirt的贸易反映出全球自由贸易的规律。所以比较贴近原文主旨的标题是“What T-shirts Can Teach Us”。

The Price of a Dream

I grew up poor, living with my wonderful mother. We had little money but plenty of love and attention. I was 36 and energetic. I understood that no matter how poor a person was, he could still 37 a dream.

My dream was to be a sportsman. 38 I was sixteen, I had started playing baseball. I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything that moved on the football field. I was also 39 : My high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me, but taught me 40 to believe in myself. He 41 me the difference between having a dream and realizing the dream. One particular 42 with Coach Jarvis changed my life forever.

It was the summer between my junior and senior years, and a friend recommended (推荐) me for a summer job. This meant a chance for money in my pocket—money for a new bike and new clothes, and the 43 of savings for a house for my mother. Then I realized I would have to 44 summer baseball to deal with the work schedule, and that meant I would have to tell Coach Jarvis I wouldn’t be playing.

When I told Coach Jarvis, he was as 45 as I expected him to be. “You have your whole life to work,” he said. “Your playing days are limited. You can’t 46 to waste them.” I stood before him with my head hanging, trying to think of the 47 that would explain 48 him why my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was worth facing his 49 in me.

“How much are you going to make at this job, son?” he asked. “Three twenty-five an hour,” I replied.

“Well,” he asked, “is $3.25 an hour the 50 of a dream?”

That simple question made it 51 to me the difference between 52 something right now and following a dream. I 53 myself to sports that summer, and within the year I was 54 by the Pittsburgh Pirates to play baseball, and was 55 a $20,000 contract. In 2000, I bought my mother the house of my dream!
