Confidence: you’ve either got it or you haven’t, right? Wrong. Most people learn confidence as they go through life.

Even if you are shaking like a leaf on the inside, you’ll make a lasting impression if you can come across as confident. Here are some confidence-building tips.

Fake(假装) it! If you can pretend that you feel confident when you don’t and keep on doing so, your fake confidence will soon turn into real confidence. It only takes a few repetitions of an activity for it to become a habit—so get in the habit of    ______     .

Think it. For an instant encouragement to yourself-esteem (自尊心), recall three things that give you positive emotions. It could be a great compliment somebody paid you, a special time when you felt happy and popular, or when you really excelled (胜过别人) at something. Bringing them to mind will help you to feel good instantly—and when you feel good, you have greater confidence.

Focus it. Difficult situations, such as interviews or new jobs, can make you feel shy. If you’re feeling anxious about yourself, stop thinking about yourself and focus on something else. It could be that you focus on something normal, like the view out of the window, or that you pay more attention to the task at hand—getting the job! Either way, you'll feel less awkward.

Talk it. If you keep telling yourself that you're not good at something, you’ll start to believe it. Next time you blame yourself, ask yourself whether you'd talk to your friends like that. So quit being negative and start recognizing and appreciating the things you are good at.

Walk it. Great posture can signal great confidence. Walk with a purposeful stride, walk with your back straight and with your head held up high!

In the United States, engineering is a profession(职业) that has been historically under the control of
men. Even today, it's still true that few women become civil or chemical or mechanical engineers, but that's
something on www.EngineerGirl.org encouraging girls to change the present situation. Young women who
visit the web site can find out about a great job choice they might not have considered.
"Women are not well represented in engineering and in engineering education programs and then of
course, down the road, in the engineering workforce. So only about 20 percent of engineering
undergraduate degrees (本科文凭) go to women, and then only about nine percent of working engineers
are women."
Mary Mattis, the National Academy of Engineering, says "we know from the research that
middle-school girls are at a critical point in their lives, and that it's a time when we need to reach them, so
this website aims to increase their awareness of interesting fields in engineering. On the other hand, it wants
to make them understand what a wonderful productive and exciting job you can have as an engineer."
Engineering is a demanding course of study-there is a lot of science and math, for many girls and even
boys that can be challenging. But Ms. Mattis says that the EngineerGirl website stresses that engineering
can also be fun and exciting.
"It's about designing things. It's about changing the world for people. It's about making a difference.
And, in addition, you can make a good living; you can be independent economically by becoming an
engineer. All of those things are messages that girls need to get."
While most engineers go into traditional fields such as mechanical and electrical engineering, the
EngineerGirl site also emphasizes engineering jobs which are related to other fields such as bio-engineering,
sports engineering and -believe it or not-chocolate engineering.
Even if you are not a girl in the target(目标) age group, there's a lot of interesting information on the
site, including biographies(自传)of some well-known women engineers.

World’s Fairs originated in the French tradition of national exhibitions, a tradition that ended with the French Industrial Exposition of 1844 held in Paris. It was soon followed by other national exhibitions in continental Europe, and finally came to London where the first real international exhibition was held.

Since their start in 1851, the character of world expositions has developed gradually. Three eras can be distinguished: the era of industrialization, the era of cultural exchange, and the era of nation branding.

The first era could be called the era of industrialization and covered the period from 1851 to 1938. In these days, world expositions were especially focused on trade and famous for the display of technological inventions and advancements. World expositions were the platform where the state of the art in science and technology from around the world was brought together. Inventions, such as the telephone were first presented during this era. An important part of the image of World’s Fairs stems from this first era.

The 1939 New York World’s Fair and the 1949 Stockholm World’s Fair were different from the original focus of the expositions. From then on, World’s Fairs became more strongly based on a specific theme of cultural significance, and began to address issues of humankind. Technology and inventions remained important, but no longer as the principal subjects of the Fair. Cross-cultural dialogue and the exchange of solutions became defining elements of the expos. It was also during this time, specifically in the 1960s, that BIE organizers started calling World’s Fairs “Expo’s”.

From Expo’88 in Brisbane onwards, countries started to use World Expositions more widely and more strongly as a platform to improve their national images through their pavilion(展馆), where a strong national image is a key asset(财产), pavilions became advertising campaigns, and the Expo a channel for nation branding. As well as cultural and symbolic reasons, organizing countries also use the world exposition to brand themselves.

Expo 2010 in Shanghai has been successfully held. 2017 will see a recognized exposition. 2020 will see a registered category of exposition. Bidding may begin as early as 2011 for this larger sized exposition. There are citizen efforts in American cities with the intention of bringing a World’s Fair back to the United States.
