7.We're so well educated-but we're useless students who have lost the ability to do anything practical.The only thing we've mastered is consumption.
Large numbers of students have entered higher education in the past 10years,but despite being the most educated generation in history,it seems that we've grown increasingly ignorant when it comes to basic life skills.
Looking back on my first couple of weeks of living in student halls,I consider myself lucky to still be alive.Unfamiliar to fresher's,there are many hidden dangers in the dirty corners of students accommodation.
I have survived a couple of serious boiling egg incidents and lots of cases of food-poisoning,probably from dirty kitchen counters.Although some of my clothes have fallen victim to ironing experimentation,I think I have now finally acquired all the domestic (居家的) skills I missed out in my modem education.
In 2006and 2010,the charming educationist Sir Ken Robinson gave two very amusing talks in which he discussed the importance of creativity in education.Robinson's main viewpoint is that our current education system dislocates people from their natural talents.I would like to go a step further and propose that besides our talents,the system takes away what used to be passed from generation to generation-a working knowledge of basic life skills.
Today's graduates may have earned themselves honor in history,law or economies,but when it comes to simple things like putting up a shelf to hold all their academic books,or fixing a hole in their on-trend clothes,they have to cal for help from a professional handyman or tailor.
Since the invention of the internet,it has never been easier for people to access information,but our highly specialized education has made us more one-sided than ever.
I suggest that we start with the immediate reintroduction of some of the most vital aspects of"domestic science"education, before the current lack leads to serious accidents in student halls.

36.People call us useless students for the reason thatD.
A.what we've learned is beyond consumption
B.we are educated generation
C.we've entered higher education
D.our living skills are so poor
37.Which is NOT the incidents the writer had during the first few weeks in student halls?D
A.He was seriously burnt by boiled eggs.
B.He was accidentally poisoned by food.
C.He damaged his clothes while ironing.
D.He was severely beaten by freshets.
38.According to Robinson's opinion,our current educationB.
A.focuses on the importance if creativity
B.dislocates people from their natural talents
C.has equipped students with basic life skills
D.has followed the tradition properly
39.Why are the graduates poor at basic life skills?B
A.Because they are not interested in them.
B.Because they have little relevant practice.
C.Because they are affected by internet.
D.Because they are easy to be one-sided.
40.The main purpose of writing the passage is thatB.
A.there is no need to introduce"domestic science"
B.it's time we did something to current education
C.more attention should be paid to natural science
D.accidents should be prevented in student halls.

分析 本篇文章先陈述并阐释了学生缺乏技能的问题,最后提出倡议,目的是呼吁大家改变教育的现状.

解答 36-40 DDBBB
36:D 由第一段第一句中的"but we're useless students who have lost the ability to do anything practical."可知,我们之所以无用是因为我们没有实践能力,没有技能,D项符合题意,故正确答案为D.
37:D  由第四段第一句中的"I have survived a couple of serious boiling egg incidents and lots of cases of food-poisoning"可知A、B项文章有提及.由第四段第二句中的"Although some of my clothes have fallen victim to ironing experimentation"可知C项文章有提及.故正确答案为D.
38:B  细节题.由第五段第二句"Robinson's main viewpoint is that our current education system dislocates people from their natural talents."可知正确答案为B.
39:B  细节题.由第五段最后一句"I would like to go a step further and propose that besides our talents, the system takes away what used to be passed from generation to generation-a working knowledge of basic life skills."可知,是教育系统让这一代失去了基本的动手技能.由最后一段"I suggest that we start with the immediate reintroduction of some of the most vital aspects of"domestic science"education, before the current lack leads to serious accidents in student halls."可知,教育系统没有为学生安排"家务"教育,由此可知他们因缺乏锻炼而失去许多基本技能,B项符合题意.故正确答案为B.
40:B  主旨题.由最后一段"I suggest that we start with the immediate reintroduction of some of the most vital aspects of"domestic science"education, before the current lack leads to serious accidents in student halls."可知,作者提出了从国内的教育开始改变的倡议.文章先陈述并阐释了学生缺乏技能的问题,最后提出倡议,所以文章的目的是呼吁大家改变教育的现状,B项符合题意.故正确答案为B.

4.Some 30,000years ago,artists who lived in caves in Europe painted pictures of the animals around them:panthers,hyenas,rhinos,cave lions,mammoths and other creatures which have been extinct for a long time.The paintings were highly realistic.Some even showed movement.
The artwork,more than a thousand drawings,is considered the oldest group of human cave drawings which have ever been discovered.They were preserved because the cave was sealed--closed off--for more or less 23,000years.
Fast forward to December 18,1994,a group of French cave scientists were exploring caves in southern France.Jean-Marie Chauvet,who led the group then,describes the process of discovering the cave paintings."At that time I was in the front,Eliette just walked behind me,Christian behind.Eliette said she saw two marks made with red ochre and she said,‘They came here.'And at this very moment everything began.The drawings and everything linked to the parietal art (壁画).That is where it started."
Cave art expert Jean Clottes reviewed the paintings."I was amazed at the number of paintings there were and paintings of their quality and particularly in front of the panel of the horses."
Scientific analysis confirmed the prehistoric date of the artwork.Studies showed the drawings were created tens of thousands of years ago,before human history was written.The United Nations'cultural agency UNESCO lists the cave as a World Heritage Site.They say that the drawings form a remarkable expression of early human artistic creation of grand excellence and variety.
The Chauvet Cave has been named after the explorer who first entered it.However,its environment and drawings are too fragile to be visited by human beings.So the cave is closed,and only people there for scientific purposes can go inside and see the artwork.
However,French authorities asked experts to create an exact copy of the cave,called Pont d'Arc Cavern.The copy,which we also call replica,cost more than 59million dollars to build.It opened at the end of April in France.
Pascal Terrasse is the president of the cavern.He says everyone will be able to experience the thrill of looking at drawings made by the first humans in Europe.He says the place is magic because it is done so well.Authorities say they think as many as 400.000people will be allowed to visit Pont d'Arc Cavern every year.

15.The computer keyboard helped kill shorthand---a system of rapid handwriting,and now it's threatening to finish off handwriting as a whole.When handwritten essays were introduced on the SAT exams for the class of 2011,just 15% of the most 1.5million students wrote their answers in cursive (草写字母).The rest?Block letters.
And those college hopefuls are just the first edge of a wave of US students who no longer get much handwriting instructions in the primary grades,frequently 10minutes a day or less.As a result,more and more students struggle to read and write cursive.
At Keene Mill Elementary School in Springfield,all their poems and stories are typed.Children in Fairfax County schools are taught keyboarding beginning in kindergarten.Older students who never mastered handwriting say it doesn't affect their grades.
There are those who say the culture is at a crossing, turning from the written word to the typed one. If handwriting becomes a lost form of communication, does it matter?
It was at University of Virginia that researchers recently discovered a previously unknown poem by Robert,written in his unique script.Handwritten documents are more valuable to researchers,historians say,because their authenticity (真实性)can be confirmed.Students also find them more fascinating.
The loss of handwriting also may be a cognitive (认知的)opportunity missed.Several academic studies have found that good handwriting skills at a young age can help children express their thoughts better-a lifelong benefit.
It doesn't take much to teach better handwriting skills.At some schools in Prince George's County,elementary school students use a program called Handwriting Without Tears for 15minutes a day.They learn the correct formation of manuscript letters through second grade,and cursive letters in third grade.
There are always going to be some kids who struggle with handwriting because of their particular neurological (神经系统的)wiring,learning issues or poor motor skills.Educators often point to this factor in support of keyboarding.

2.We live in a"now"culture.If it takes more than five seconds for a website to load,we won't view it.We want to call our friends now,even if we'll see them in 10minutes.The"now"culture is one of convenience,and let's face it,convenience can make our lives easier.
Unfortunately,by gaining convenience,we've lost some of our patience.If you're like me,patience does not come naturally.Here are a few tips I've learned along the way to cultivate more patience in my life:
Ask yourself why you're in a hurry.If you feel rushed while going about your normal day,ask yourself why.Will the world end if you get home five minutes late?What if you stop to talk to the random people you meet each day?If you do stop to talk,you'll be amazed how much more connected you'll feel to your community.
Hang around people who have patience.I had a lot less patience before I met my husband.Being around him daily has certainly given me a greater appreciation for the art of waiting.He's not only a great example of someone who lives his life patiently,but he tells me if I'm getting too anxious or impatient.If you don't know someone who's patient in your immediate circle of friends,take a class like yoga where meditation is part of the art.
.Sometimes you can lose sight of long-term goals in the rush towards instant gratification.Most people trying to lose weight have a hard time cutting out sugary or carb-loaded foods completely.It helps to cut these lofty long-term goals into smaller chunks.To encourage weight loss,you can slowly cut back on your calorie intake or increase your exercise regimen each week.Whatever route you take,setting those little goals will help you achieve the big ones faster.
Think of the things you've gained by being patient.When all else fails,I think of the good things that have happened in my life because I waited.Passing up on a few"so-so"job offers last year paved the way for me to land a job I really wanted.When you can think of positive outcomes that have come from waiting,it puts into perspective why it's not always the best strategy to rush into things.

36.What does the author think of patience?C
A.It makes our life easier.
B.It brings convenience to life.
C.It can be gained by slowing yourself down.
D.It is a common phenomenon in a"now"culture.
37.We can infer from the fourth paragraph thatA.
A.patience can be learned from others
B.women get more patient after marriage
C.patience plays an important role in marriage
D.the author gets more patient by taking a yoga class
38.What is the best title for the fifth paragraph?C
A.Never lose sight of your long-term goals.

A.analyzing causes         B.giving examples

12.People are more likely to lie or cheat during the afternoon because self control reduces during the day, according to researchers.
Volunteers taking part in two experiments where they could benefit by cheating were more likely to do so if the tests took place after midday, researchers found.
The findings back up previous studies which have shown that our capacity for self-control declines during the day,due to tiredness and repeatedly making decisions.
Psychologists from Harvard University first showed a group of volunteers various patterns of dots on a computer screen, asking them to decide whether there were more dots on the left or the right hand side.
Instead of being rewarded for getting the answer right, the participants were paid based on which side they chose, earning ten times as much for choosing the right hand side as the left.
People who were tested after midday were significantly more likely to select the right hand side, even if there were clearly more dots on the left, than those who took part during the morning.
In a second test, participants were shown a series of word fragments, such as"-ral"and"e-c-"and asked which words they associated with them.
In morning experiments, participants were more likely to form the words"moral"and"ethical"while during the afternoon the words"coral"and"effects"were most common.
Further tests conducted online showed that people were more likely to send dishonest messages or claim to have solved an unsolvable problem in the afternoon than in the morning.
Writing the Psychological Science journal, the researchers said the difference was particularly pronounced in people with higher ethical standards, who always behaved morally during the morning but slipped during the afternoon.
In contrast, those who were able to"morally disengage",or behave unethically without feeling guilty, tended to cheat whatever the time of day.
Dr.Maryam Kouchaki, one of the lead authors, said:"Unfortunately, the most honest people, such as those less likely to morally disengage, may be the most susceptible (易受影响的) to the negative consequences associated with the morning morality effect."
The findings could be relevant to organizations that should be more alert about the behavior of customers and employees during the afternoon, she added."Our findings suggest that mere time of day can lead to a systematic failure of good people to act morally."

A.Because their vocabulary becomes smaller.
B.Because they are unwilling to tell the truth.
C.Because the words are the voice of their heart.
D.Because self control declines after midday.

19.Last year,A Bite of China,made by CCTV's Documentary Channel,sparked discussion not only on Chinese food,but also on locally made documentary programs.
When you think of documentaries,you may think of them as long,boring programs.But documentaries can be wonderful and bring stories from the real world into our homes.With fascinating footage(影片片段) and stories,documentaries encourage us to think about interesting issues we wouldn't necessarily know about.
So,what makes a good documentary, and what should we pay attention to when we watch one? Here,we offer a few easy strategies to help you get the most out of watching documentaries.
Pay attention to the themes
While watching a documentary, keep your eyes and ears peeled for the themes people talk about and what ideas they focus on.Is it meant to be informative or raise a certain emotional response?
Think critically
Listen to what the people in the documentary are saying and ask yourself the following questions:If you were debating with someone or introducing a new concept, would you say the things the people in the documentary are saying?Do the arguments make sense?
Check the sources
If you're sitting at the computer and can't think of anything to do,why not look up the points the documentary made and see if they are accurate? You could even read more about what is presented in the documentary.
Who are the creators?
The creators or financial backers of a film will usually be involved with how the subject matter is presented.For instance,as the documentary 2016:Obama's America was directed in large part by a conservative writer,it's not surprising that it's critical of President Obama from the beginning.

"Today your son walked straight (52)A to that child.I watched him (53)B her some pretty pink flowers and whisper.I love you."
I felt my heart swell with (54)Bfor what my son had done.I smiled at the teacher."Thank you,"I said,reaching for Jonathan's hand,"you've (55)Dmy day."
