ABC means American-born Chinese.An ABC is a Chinese,but was born in the United States.Sometimes,people call an ABC a"banana person".A banana is yellow outside and white inside.So,when a person is a banana,he or she is white inside-thinking like a Westerner and yellow outside-looking like a Chinese.
Do you know why?Usually,ABCs know little about China or the Chinese language.Some of them don't speak Chinese.Also,they are not interested in Chinese politics.
But if ABCs cannot speak Chinese,can we still call them Chinese people?Yes,of course.They are Chinese.They are overseas (海外的) Chinese.These people may be citizens(公民) of another country like the US,Canada or Singapore.But they have Chinese blood.Their parents,grandparents or even great-grandparents were from China.They all have black eyes and black hair.But they are not Chinese citizens.They are not people of the People's Republic of China.For example,we all know the famous scientist C.N.Yang (杨振宁).He got the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1957.Chinese people love him.But he is an American citizen.

Sometimes,people call an ABC a"banana person".A banana is yellow outside.So,when a person is a"banana",he or she is white inside-thinking like a Westerner and yellow outside-looking like a Chinese.,意为,有时候人们称ABC为香蕉人.
根据he is an American citizen.虽然流着中国人的血但是却是美国人.故选D.
24  B  主旨大意题.这篇文章主要为我们讲述的是ABC,即海外华人.他们有着中国人的血统,中国人的外貌,但却不是中国公民.故选B.

20.The Channel is the name given to the stretch of water(一片汪洋) which separates England and France.Ferries(摆渡) operate all year round to carry people across the Channel,and they are busy most of the year.January is the only quiet month nowadays.As well as summer holiday-makers,there are day trippers and coach traffic,not to mention lorries and other commercial vehicles.Some ferries carry cars and their passengers,while others also connect train passengers with the Continental rail network.
The biggest hazard for the ferry is the wind.The crew listens to BBC weather reports four times a day.Or they sometimes get gale(大风) warnings from local radio station.
Crossing the Channel by ferry is a bit like trying to cross Oxford Street on a busy afternoon,according to one ferryboat captain.The ferries from Folkstone and Dover to Calais and Boulogne have to cross the main flow of traffic.This consists of ships traveling through the Channel to and from Northern Europe.There may be four hundred ships making the journey at any one time,and they all pass through a"choke point"which is only fifteen miles (twenty-five kilometers) wide.The cross-channel ferries have to sail right through the middle of all this traffic.

17.I look in the mirror, and I'm not happy with what I see.I don't have a"perfect"face.I look in the magazines and all I see are girls with fair hair, blue eyes, and,of course,a pretty little nose. They're on the outside of the buses that I take home, the television programs I watch, and the billboards(广告牌)I walk under.Almost every advertisement I see shows this human physical"perfection".These billboards not only tell me what to drink, but also how to look.
Our society places more importance on a person's physical beauty, rather than their ability, honesty and character. We have influenced women to go through painful surgeries(手术)and starve themselves to become this society-built physical model. To be a beautiful woman in the 21st century doesn't mean that you are a brilliant doctor or caring mother. It means you have the perfect jaw, eyes and lips.It means that you can be six feet tall and weigh one hundred and ten pounds.
But what about the women who are starting to leave their youth?Instead of looking at aging as a sign of wisdom,we try to prevent the aging process (过程).It's a kind of funny thing to want to look eighteen when fifty.Fifty is a relaxed age, when you can step back and look at all you've achieved(successfully complete something). It is when your hard work pays off.Unfortunately, our society just sees you as"old".To stop the aging process, women buy wrinkle(皱纹)creams,do eye lifts and face lifts. They spend thousands of dollars to win the hopeless battle against age.
I remember when I was about thirteen years old and going through teens,I had oily hair, and a half develo ped body.I hated the way I looked.I used to cry to my mother all the time, but she would just laugh and tell me that"you don't want anyone to like your appearance. It's your heart that is important, because beauty fades(消逝)."I knew that she was right. If you work on your heart enough, people will start to see the beauty in you, which lasts and remains on even after you die.

D.The author feels appearance is important to a person.
4.Organic food,grown without artificial chemicals,is increasingly popular nowadays.Consumers have been willing to pay up to twice as much for goods with organic labels.However,if you think paying a little more for organic food gets you a more nutritiousand safer product,you might want to save your money.A study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren't necessarily more nutritious,and they're no less likely to suffer from disease-causing bacteria,either.
The latest results,published in the Annuals of Internal Medicine,suggest that buyers may be wasting their money."We did not find strong evidence that organic food is more nutritious or healthier,"says Dr.Crystal Smith-Spangler from Stanford."So consumers shouldn't assume that one type of food has a lower risk or is safer."
For their new study,Smith-Spangler and her colleagues conducted a review of two categories of research,including 17studies that compared health outcomes between consumers of organic against traditional food products,and 223studies that analyzed the nutritional content of the foods,including key vitamins,minerals and fats.
While the researchers found little difference in nutritional content,they did find that organic fruit and vegetables were 20% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces.Neither organic nor traditional foods showed levels of chemicals high enough to go beyond food safety standards.And both organic and traditional meats,such as chicken and pork,were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates.The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels of omega-3fatty acids,a healthy fat also found in fish that can reduce the risk of heart disease.However,these nutritional differences were too small,and the researchers were unwilling to make much of them until further studies confirm the trends.
Organic food is produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices,but that doesn't always translate into a more nutritious or healthier product.The U.S.Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that"whether you buy organic or not,finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest effect on taste."Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic.

14.Most of us spend our lives seeking the natural world.We go fishing,sit in the garden,have a picnic,live in the suburbs or go to the seaside.The most popular leisure activity in Britain is going for a walk.When joggers jog,they don't run in the streets.Every one of them tend to go to the park or the river.
But despite this,our children are growing up nature deprived(剥夺).I spent my boyhood climbing trees.These days,children are robbed of these ancient freedoms,due to problems like crime,traffic,the loss of the open spaces and strange new ideas about what is best for children,that is to say,things that can be bought,rather than things that can be found.
The truth is to be found elsewhere.A study in the US:families had moved to better housing and the children were assessed for ADHD-attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(多动症).Those whose accommodation had more natural views showed an improvement of 19%; those who had the same improvement in material surroundings but no nice view improved just 4%.
ADHD is one of the great problems of modern childhood.One study after another indicates that contact with nature gives huge benefits to ADHD children.However,we spend money on drugs rather than on green places.
The life of old people is measurably better when they have access to nature.The increasing concern for the growing population of old people is in quality rather than quantity of years.And study after study finds that a garden is the single most important thing in finding that quality.Even problems with crime and aggressive behaviour are reduced when there is contact with the natural world.
We need the wild world.It is essential to our well-being,our health and our happiness.

C.Problems with crime and violent behavior will easily be solved.
D.Children's performance at school is greatly improved.
42.What is the main idea of this passage?A
A.Access to nature improves our life.
B.Nature treats children with ADHD.
C.Getting close to nature reduces crime.
D.Man can't live without natural areas.
