20.Anxiety has now surpassed depression as the most common mental health disease among college students,though depression,too,is on the rise.More than half of students visiting campus clinics cite anxiety as a health concern,according to a recent study of more than 100,000 students nationwide by the Center for Collegiate Mental Health at Penn State.
The causes range widely,experts say,from mounting academic pressure at earlier ages to overprotective parents to engagement with social media.Anxiety has always played a role in the development of a student's life,but now more students experience anxiety so acute that they are seeking professional help.
Anxiety has become characteristic of the current generation of college students,said Dan Jones,the director of Counseling and Psychological Services at Appalachian State University in Boone,N.C.Because of increasingly pressures during high school,he and other experts say,students arrive at college preloaded with stress.Accustomed to extreme parental oversight,many seem unable to govern themselves.And with parents so accessible,students have had less motivation to develop life skills."They can't tolerate discomfort or having to struggle,"Dr Jones said.
More often,anxiety is mild and temporary,the indication of a student under the control of a normal developmental issue-learning time management,for example,or how to handle rejection from a sorority(女生联谊会).Mild anxiety is often treatable with early,modest interventions.But to care for rising numbers of severely troubled students,many counseling centers have moved to triage protocols (分诊措施).That means that students with less urgent needs may wait several weeks for first appointments.

33.What results in anxiety mentioned according to the passage?D

B.To teach them how to manage time.
C.To move to triage protocols.
D.To treat them with early,modest interventions.
35.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?B
A.College mental health centers overburdened with depressing students.
B.Students burdened with anxiety on the rise

10.Alan,17,was randomly shot and killed by a gang member.His father,Keith,and his mother,Donna,were filled with anger as they followed the all-consuming ongoing investigation into the killing.A close couple,friends of Keith and Donna's,dropped in one evening and said to them,"You have to accept this loss.Your son is gone and none of this is going to bring him back.All you need now is acceptance."Keith got angry with his friend and asked,"What part of Alan's death don't you think I accept?Believe me,I hate to be in so much pain."
Acceptance is not about liking a situation.It is about acknowledging all that has been lost and learning to live with that loss.It would be too soon for Keith to be able to accept the situation.He can acknowledge the reality of the loss,but it would be unrealistic to think he should have found some peace with it by then.
The gang member who killed Alan was sentenced to life in prison,and Keith and Donna went back to their own lives.But Keith actually had a new loss to deal with,an emptiness,which made the absence of his son's loss even louder.
It is important for people to understand that gradually,in your own time,you can begin to find some peace with what has happened.In situations such as murder,it is vital to understand we have a legal system,not necessarily a justice system.Acceptance is a process that we experience,not a final stage with an end point.
No one else could know how much acceptance Keith was capable of or how time would affect his process.After five years,Keith felt he had found as much acceptance as was possible.Then he was notified that the shooter was up for his parole ( 假释 ) hearing.Keith was once again filled with anger.The proceedings were brief and parole was denied.Keith was struck by how quickly it happened and by the tears of the shooter's father.For the first time,Keith realized that there were victims on both ends of the gun.
Keith walked over and shook his hand.At that moment,something happened:Keith's anger was replaced by a curiosity.He wanted to know what this other father's life was like and what led him to the same place.Over the next few years,the two men worked together helping gang members stop the violence and find their place in the world.
Keith's acceptance was a journey deeper than ever expected.And it happened over many years,not many months or days.Not everyone will or can fully embrace those who have hurt us,as Keith did,but there is always a struggle that leads us to our own personal and unique acceptance.

D.Finding some peace with what has happened.

15.If you think that running marathons will help you live a long and healthy life,new research may come as a shock.According to a recent scientific study,people who do a very strenuous workout are as likely to die as people who do no exercise at all.
Scientists in Denmark have been studying over 1,000joggers and non-joggers for 12years.The death rates from the sample group indicate that people who jog at a moderate(适度的) pace two or three times a week for less than two and a half hours in total are the least likely to die.The best speed to jog at was found to be about 5miles per hour.The research suggests that people who jog more than three times a week or at higher speeds of over 7mph die at the same rate as non-joggers.The scientists think that this is because strenuous exercise causes structural changes to the heart and arteries(动脉).Over time,this can cause serious injuries.
Peter Schnohr,researcher in Copenhagen,said,"If your goal is to decrease the risk of death and improve life expectancy,jogging a few times a week at a moderate pace is a good strategy.Anything more is not only unnecessary,but it may be harmful."
The implications of this are that moderate forms of exercise such as Tai Chi,yoga and brisk walking may be better for us than triathlons(三项全能).According to Jacob Louis Marott,another researcher involved in the study,"You don't actually have to do that much to have a good impact on your health.And perhaps you shouldn't actually do too much."

29.The underlined word"strenuous"in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning toA.
A.hardB.regularC.practicalD.flexible
30.The author presents some figures in Paragraph 2 toC.
A.suggest giving up jogging
B.show risks of doing sports
C.provide supportive evidence
D.introduce the research process
31.What can be inferred from the text?D
A.No exercise at all is the best choice.

9.Gregory Kloehn digs through dustbins every day,but not for the reason that most people would think. He isn't homeless. In fact he is trying to help the homeless.
Gregory began his life as a sculptor. But he often felt that his sculptures, which just stood in rich people's houses for years, lacked a meaningful purpose. So in 2011 he decided to put his artistic energies into creating homes to sell-not ordinary homes but small structures built entirely from recycled materials.
The thought of creating homes for the homeless didn't occur to him until the year 2013,when a homeless couple asked him for a tarp(防水布).Instead of a tarp,Gregory offered them something better:a small home with a water tank,a kitchen and a trap(容器) for waste. They were so grateful that Gregory decided to focus his efforts on helping house the homeless population in his city. And soon his"Homeless Homes Project"was started.
Before starting a new home,Gregory, goes hunting for materials by digging through dustbins.Everything he finds is usable-refrigerator doors become house doors; washing machine doors often serve as windows, and the tops of cars become strong roofs. He put wheels at the bottom for users to move their homes around easily. Each home takes two to three days to make.
So far Gregory has donated dozens of homes to the city's most needy. While his small lowcost mobile homes are not the final solution to the problem of homelessness, they are really practical and do provide a warm and safe place for the homeless to stay in.They are simply a way for one man to do something nice for those in need of some help.
Gregory has written a book titled Homeless Architecture, where he explains techniques to build those homes and he is now working on weekend workshops."A lot of people who hear about what I'm doing want to get involved,"he said."Maybe we can meet someplace and put a couple of homes together."
