题目内容

15.There is an English saying;"(36)F"Until recently,few people took the saying seriously.Now,however,doctors have begun to look into laughter and the effects it has on the human body.(37)G.
Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body.People watched funny films while doctors checked their hearts,blood pressure,breathing and muscles.It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise.(38)DIf laughter exercises the body,it must be beneficial.
Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce the effect of pain on the body.In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs.The group that tolerated the pain for the longest time was the group which listened to a funny program.(39)C
(40)BThey have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing,making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those caused by laughter.
A.Laughter can prolong one's life.
B.As a result of these discoveries,some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics,in which they help to improve their patients'condition by encouraging them to laugh.
C.The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of chemicals in the brain which diminish both stress and pain.
D.It increases blood pressure,the heart beating and breathing,it also works several groups of muscles in the face,the stomach,and even the feet.
E.Although laughter helps cure the disease,doctors still can not put this theory into clinic practice.

Considering her safety, her son has been trying hard to ask her to sell the house and buy a new and small one in downtown. To his disappointment,Mrs.Jackson doesn't accept the idea. She says that she has to look after their old house,as the family tie.But recently there are often stories about someone stealing things around here.
It was a freezing day before Christmas Eve.At about four o'clock in the afternoon,Mrs.Jackson was enjoying some Christmas music when someone knocked at the door. She heard it but didn't move.Another knock.Who might it be?Mrs.Jackson was a little afraid. She determined not to answer the door but keep waiting. Then nothing strange happened and no more knocks. She waited a few minutes. She walked quietly to the door, and listened. She heard nothing but the wind outside. She slowly unfastened the door and looked outside through the crack. She then let out a cry and threw the door wide open! She could hardly believe her eyes.At the door she saw a tall, beautiful Christmas tree!In the tree was a Christmas card with the following words:
  Merry Christmas!
Your new neighbor

15.Imagine,one day,getting out of bed in Beijing and being at your office in Shanghai in only a couple of hours,and then,after a full day of work,going back home to Beijing and having dinner there.
Sounds unusual,doesn't it?But it's not that unreaistic,with the development of China's high-speed railway system.And that's not a11.China has an even greater high-speed railway plan-to connect the country with Southeast Asia,and eventually Eastern Europe.China is negotiating to extend its own high-speed railway network to up to 17countries in 1 0to 15years,eventually reaching London and Singapore.
China has proposed three such projects.The first would possibly connect Kunming with  Singapore via Vietnam and Malaysia.Another could start in Urumq and go through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan,and possibly to Germany.The third would start in the northeast and go north through Russia and then into Western Europe.
If China's plan for the high-speed railway goes forward,people could zip over from London to Beijing in under two days.The new system would still follow China's high-speed railway standard.And the trains would be able to go 346kilometers an hour,almost as fast as some airplanes.
China's bullet train(高速客车),the one connecting Wuhan to Guangzhou,already has the World's fastest average speed.It covers 1,069kilometers in about three hours.Of course,there are some technical challenges to overcome.There are so many issues that need to be settled,such as safety,rail gauge(轨距),maintenance of railway tracks.So,it's important to pay attention to every detail.But the key issue is really money.China is already spending hundreds of billions of yuan on domestic railway expansion.
China prefers that the other countries pay in natural resources rather than with capital  investment.Resources from those countries could stream into China to sustain development.
It'll be a win-win project.For other countries,the railway network will definitely create more opportunities for business,tourism and so on,not to mention the better communication among those countries.
For China,such a project would not only connect it with the rest of Asia and bring some much-needed resources,but would also help develop China's far west.We foresee that in the coming decades,millions of people will migrate to the western regions,where the land is empty and resources unused.With high-speed trains,people will set up factories and business centers in the west once and for a11.And they'll trade with Central Asian and Eastern European countries.

53.China's new high-speed railway plan will be a win-win project becauseB.
A.China will get much-needed resources and develop its western regions
B.China and the countries involved will benefit from the project in various ways
C.China will develop its railway system and communication with other countries
D. the foreign countries involved will develop their railway transportation, business and tourism
54.According to the passage,the greatest challenge to the new high-speed railway plan isC.
A.technical issues
B.safety of the system
C.financial problems
D.maintenance of railway tracks
55.Which of the following words best describes the author's attitude towards China's high-speed  railway plan?D

56.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?B
A.New Railway Standards
