There was a painter who was known for his painting skills. One day this skilled artist met a beautiful woman. He fell in love with her at first sight. Then he showered her with kindness and words of praise until she consented（同意）to be his wife.
Not long after they were married, however, the beautiful woman found when he admired her classic beauty; it was as if he was standing in front of a work of art rather than in front of a human being. He expressed his great desire to paint her rare beauty.
“Please sit for me in the workroom,” he pleaded (请求). “and I will make your beauty immortal (永恒的). The work will be my masterpiece (杰作).”
So the beautiful young woman sat patiently in his room, complaining nothing. Day after day she sat obediently, because she loved him and she hoped that he would see her love in her smile and obedience.
She sometimes wanted to tell him, “Please love me as a person rather than an object!” But she said nothing.
Hour after hour, day after day, the artist became so absorbed (投入的) in his work that he didn’t notice that his wife was becoming weak and unhappy.
Finally when he finished his work, he cried. Because when he turned to his beloved wife he found that she was dead.
