ChangchunJilin province is planning to upgrade one of its provincial nature reserve to serve as a State protected refuge for Siberian tigers.
Huangnihe Nature Reserve, in the Mount Changbai area, was established by the provincial government in May 2000.The 23,476 - hectare (公倾) area has seen its wild boar and roe deer populations increase thanks to a hunting ban imposed by the provincial government five years ago.
Siberian tigers living in the preserve have been thriving because of the increasing availbility of deer and boars, but they have also been making occasional forays (袭击) into regions outside the preserve.
More than 40 cattle have been attacked by Siberian tigers since last autumn. Fifteen of the cows were killed.
