“Privacy” is translated as“yin si”in Chinese. Traditionally, in the Chinese mind,“yin si”is associated with that which is closed or unfair. If someone is said to have“yin si”, meddlers (好事者) will be attracted to pry(打探)into his or her affairs. So people always state that they don't have“yin si”.

On the contrary, Americans often declare their intention to protect their privacy. Their understanding of privacy is that others have no right to pry into things which belong to themselves alone and have nothing to do with others. One who is too curious and who spreads rumors is said to violate the right to privacy.

In the evening, Sonia and I went to a bar for dinner. In China, when people mention bars, something bad usually comes to mind. But here, the bar was a quiet and tastefully laid out place. People spoke quite softly, afraid of interrupting their neighbors, and sat face to face as they drank, sometimes three or five persons sitting together.

This sort of atmosphere was totally different from my preconception(传统观念), so I wanted to take a picture. Sonia stopped me:“Don't you see these people are pouring out their hearts? Maybe they are colleagues, friends, secret lovers. They came here looking for a peaceful place free from interruption by others. They wouldn't want to leave any trace of their having come here. So taking their pictures would be a serious violation of their right to privacy.”

Is there privacy between husband and wife? One of Sonia's friends married a talented Chinese man, but recently she became so angry that she wanted a divorce(离婚). The reason was that her husband had opened one of her letters and looked through her purse. The husband didn't realize that this is not tolerated in the U.S. He thought that being a couple was like being one person; why couldn't he see the letter or the contents of the purse? Truly, everyone, even those living as a couple, needs room--not only in three-dimensional(三维) space, but in the heart.

“Human influenza viruses can survive and be infectious for several days when they are deposited on banknotes,” according to the latest study by Yves Thomas and his colleages in Switzerland. Scientists put different types of flu virus onto Swiss franc notes and found that they could survive from a few hours to more than a week. The results depended on the type of flu virus.
According to the study, Swiss-banknotes are mostly cotton covered by a nonporous resin(无孔树脂). Banknotes from other countries may be composed of different materials, and this could affect viral transmission. “Whether similar results would be obtained with banknotes from other countries and with different characteristics needs to be studied.” the authors wrote. In an interview with Reuters, Thomas said. “Our studies have convinced us that it is possible to catch the flu from banknotes, but the chances are very, very small and there is no cause for concern among the gneral population,” To be sure, many kinds of frequently touched surfaces could temporarily hide the flu virus. Broadly speaking, scientists consider the risk of transmission in this way to be low. Particularly if hand-washing and other hygiene measures are practiced.
Three things must happen for a flu virus to be transmitted from one person to another via money. First, a person who is infected with the flu virus must sneeze or cough onto the banknote. Next, an uninfected person would need to touch the money while the virus si still present. Finally, that person would need to put his hand in his mouth or pick his nose, says Thomas. The best defense against infection: follow public health guidelines and wash your hands frequently.

A. pay attention to his personal hygiene    B. wash his hands after leaving a bank
C. be monitored at a bank                D. not cough at a bank
51. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Any person who touches banknotes will become infected.
B. Different flu viruses stay on the surface of banknotes for different lengths of time.
C. The bank should not allow any infected person to enter.
D. Only banknotes in Switzerland can transmit the flu virus.

第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)

When I first heard that Zhang Yimou, China’s leading director most well-known for Hero in the West, was remaking the Coen Brothers’ first film, Blood Simple, a question immediately came into my mind: Would A Simple Noodle Story be directed by the good Zhang Yimou or the bad Zhang Yimou? The answer: neither.

Starting with his first time as a cinema-photographer on Yellow Earth right after graduating from film school in the early 80s, everything Zhang shot was inspired. In the late 80s and early 90s, he directed several movies already considered classics, including the banned To Live.

A Simple Noodle Story is set in the late Ming Dynasty (1368--1644), follows several amusing characters working in a restaurant in the faraway, but naturally beautiful, western province of Gansu, Zhang brought together a group of popular comedic(喜剧) actors led by Xiao Shenyang, who shot to fame earlier this year because of his very funny styles. Shenyang’s character, Li Si, is having an affair with his boss’s wife, who is simply called “Boss’ Wife” throughout the movie.

A Simple Noodle Story, which started national Screening Friday, is already bringing in money, scoring a total box office income of 67.1 million yuan($9.83 million) by Sunday morning and is expecting its first weekend to reach 100 million yuan ($14.65 million).

In spite of the box office success, the film has received mixed reviews. Most local media admitted Zhang’s success in entertaining the public, but writer Han Han wrote in his blog that A Simple Noodle Story is more like a long-drawn-out TV comedy and that Zhang has made no improvement in directing since his first film.

In his defense, Zhang said that he was just trying to have fun with the film. “I’m not a master of artistic films. I’m just trying to make a fun movie.”

1. Which of the following about A Simple Noodle Story is wrong?

A. Xiao Shenyang was the host of the film.

B. It has earned a lot of money after being put on.

C. It is about a story happening in the ancient times.

D. Xiao Shenyang became famous because of the character of Li Si.

2. What kind of result has A Simple Noodle Story got?

A. It has earned a little money and bad reviews.

B. It has earned lots of money but bad reviews.

C. It has earned little money but good reviews.

D. It has earned lots of money with good and bad reviews.

3. What does Han Han think of Zhang’s direction?

A. He thinks it’s improved to a higher level.

B. He thinks it can prove Zhang’s new improvement.

C. He thinks it has fallen down to the bottom at the beginning.

D. He thinks Zhang is a master of artistic films.

4. From the last paragraph we know Zhang________.

A. wants to protect himself with fighting words

B. just wants to have fun with a film

C. just wants to make money with a fun film

D. wants to prove his ability to be great director.
