I don't know what's your opinion about mountains.

It was only in the eighteenth century  people in Europe began to  that mountains were beautiful.  that time, mountains were feared by the people on the plain, especially by the city people, they were wild and  places  one was easily  or killed by terrible animals.

Slowly, however,  people  comfortably in the towns began to grow  them. They began to feel  looking for wild excitement, as their attention turned from the man-made town to the country; and to places  dangerous and wild. So high mountains began to be  for a holiday.

Then, mountain-climbing began to grow popular  To some people, there is something  about getting to the  of a high mountain: a struggle against nature is finer than a battle  other human beings. And after a difficult climb, what a  reward it is to look down on everything within sight.

解析:

45. 解析:定语从句,who were living也可直接用living。

47.解析:be interested in…“对……感兴趣”,可以用feel代替系动词be。

48.解析:untouched country与man made town构成对比。

   54. 解析:比较的前后两个方面是同等结构,a struggle against nature和a battle against other human beings并列。

“But I don’t have enough money to pay 6 your fare and my fare,”Mark Twain said.

The friend didn’t know 7 to do.He was very sad. “We can do this.”said Mark Twain.“We can 8 the train and when the conductor comes to take the tickets you can hide 9 my seat.”

Later, 10 ,on the train, when the conductor came to take the tickets,Mark Twain gave him two tickets 11 for Mark Twain and one for his friend. Then 12 a loud voice,Mark Twain explained.

“My friend here is a 13 strange man. When he travels on a train he doesn’t like to sit 14 a seat.He prefers 15 on the floor under the seat.”

Of course, everybody in the train then looked at the poor friend under the seat and laughed at him loudly.

If you asked high school girls to name their favorite sports, most would probably say basketball or volleyball. I happen to be one of the few girls who would    1   :surfing(冲浪运动). But isn’t that a boy thing? Some people    2    . Most certainly not.

I started surfing about five years ago and    3     in love with the sport on the very first day. Riding that first   4     was the best feeling I had ever experienced.

When I try to   5    surfing with other things, I find it very difficult because, in my

6   there’s nothing like it. It involves(牵涉到)body, 7    , and soul. There’s sand between my toes and cool, salt water all   8     us. The feeling I get when I’m surfing across that    9    , becoming one with the    10    , is like I’m weightless.

The one thing I can   11     from surfing and not any other sport is endless challenge(挑战). You can never be the “best surfer” because the ocean    12     an uncountable variety of waves that nobody can ever master. The variations of surfing styles are wonderful. Some surfers are free and flowing; others are very aggressive(活跃有力的)and 13    . All of these things attract me to surfing and make it    14     from any other sport.

I’ve 15     to tell every girl I know to do something that people don’t think girls can do. It's part of being human to advance to new    16    , so shouldn't it be expected that girls should step up and start    17     the limits of things boys and men used to dominate(主宰)?

There’re women 18     side by side with the President of our country, so why not side by side with the boys   19    the football team or out in the water surfing? Give girls a chance to    20    , and they will.

Last evening I was watching the evening news on television. The news was about a prize for scientific  1   ;I forgot what it was. The announcer, whose name was Ralph Story, said something that caught my  2  .“All great discoveries,”he said,“are made by people between the ages of twenty-five and thirty.”  3   a little over thirty myself, I wanted to disagree with him.  4   wants to think that he is past the age of making any discovery. The next day I happened to be in the public library and spent several hours looking up the  5  of famous people and their discoveries. Ralph was right.

First I looked at some of the   6   discoveries. One of the earliest discoveries, the famous experiment that proved that bodies of different  7   fall at the same speed, was made by Galileo when he was 26. Madam Curie started her research that  8   to the Nobel Prize when she was 28. Einstein was 26 when he published his world-changing theory of relativity. Well,  9   of that. Yet I  10   if those“best years”were true in other  11   .

Then how about the field of   12   ? Surely it needs the wisdom of age to make a good leader. Perhaps it  13   ,but look when these people  14   their career. Winston Churchill was elected to the House of Commons at the age of 26. Abraham Lincoln  15   the life of a country lawyer and was elected to government. At what age? Twenty-six.

But why  16   best years some after thirty? After thirty, I  17   ,most people do not want to take risks or try   18   ways. Then I thought of people like Shakespeare and Picasso. The former was writing wonderful works at the ripe age of fifty, while the latter was  19   trying new ways of painting when he was ninety!

Perhaps there is still  20   for me.
