【题目】阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

On my way home, I found a wallet which contained only three dollars and a letter that looked as if it had been in there for years. The envelope was worn and the only thing that was clear to read on it with the return address. The letter was written almost 60 years ago, which told Michael, the recipient(收信人), that the writer could not see him anymore because her mother forbade it. Even so, she would always love him. It was signed “Hannah.”

I called information in the hope that the operator could find a phone listing for the address on the envelope. The operator helped me find the woman who bought Hannah’s parents’ house 30 years ago. She remembered that Hannah had to place her mother in a nursing home several years ago.

I called the nursing home. A man told me the old lady had passed away but Hannah was staying with them. Even though it was late at night, I asked if I could come by to see her. “Well,” the man said hesitatingly, “if you want to take a chance, she might be in the day room watching television.”

I drove over, and the night nurse and a guard greeted me at the gate. Accompanied by the nurse, I went up to the 3rd floor. In the day room, the nurse introduced me to Hannah.

I told her about finding the wallet and showed her the letter. The second she saw the envelope, she took a deep breath and said, “Young man, this letter was the last contact I ever had with Michael. I love him very much. But my mother felt I was too young. Michael Goldstein was a wonderful person. If you should find him,” she hesitated, almost biting her lip, “tell him I still love him. You know, I never did marry…”

I said good night to Hannah. At the gate, the guard asked, “Was the old lady able to help you?” I told him she had given me a last name which might help me find the owner of the wallet.

【题目】Robot are about to enter our lives. From doing housework, entertaining and educating our children, to looking after the elderly, scientists say we will soon be welcoming robots into our homes and workplaces.

Researchers believe we are on the cusp (过渡点) of a robot revolution that will mirror the quick growth of the computer revolution. They are developing new laws for robot behavior, and designing new ways for humans and robots to communicate.

“I think robots will change who we are, just as eyeglasses and fire changed who we were before, says Rodney Brooks, a director of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Some ideas and technologies may sound like science fiction, but they are fast becoming science fact. Robots scientists invented are already beginning to perform everyday tasks like cleaning our floors. The latest types from Japan are able to help the elderly to get out of bed or get up after a fall. They can also remind them when to take medication (药物), or even help wash their hair.

“Robot now are not human-like. For example they are things like automatic (自动的) beds and wheelchairs,” says Prof Hiroshi Ishiguro at Osaka University, Japan. He believes the time is coming when robots start looking less like machines, and more like us. “In the near future we are going to use more human-like robots. I really think so, says Prof Ishiguro.

Prof Maja Mataric at the University of Southern California agrees. “I’m very excited about the fact that today we are trying to make robots that look like human beings,” she says.

“I believe we love robots because they’re reflections (反映) of ourselves,” says Ken Goldberg, director of the Berkeley Center for New Media at the University of California at Berkeley.

“Robots could be used in education, learning, and healthcare, where social support is important,” says Dr. Cynthia Breazeal, director of the Personal Robots Group at MIT.

1Who believes that robots will bring great changes to our lives?

A. Rodney Brooks. B. Hiroshi Ishiguro.

C. Maja Mataric. D. Ken Goldberg.

【题目】 Few of us haven’t read Cinderella (灰姑娘), the story of a young woman living in poverty who meets the prince of her dreams. Some might not want to admit it, but there is a hidden Cinderella in everyone’s heart — we all wish we could achieve recognition or success after a period of obscurity (默默无闻). Mary Santiago has that secret dream, too. Her story is featured (特点) in Another Cinderella Story, a film set in a US high school.

Mary is shy but loves to dance. Compared with other girls, she is invisible. However, her world changes completely when a famous teenager pop singer, Joey Parker, appears. Joey is everything the rest of the boys in her class are not — kind, handsome and desirable. Mary and Joey’s paths cross at a ball. They meet and fall in love with each other. But when Mary has to rush back home, she leaves behind her MP3 player, which becomes the only clue Joey has to find the girl of his dreams. Of course, there is a wicked (邪恶的) stepmother, who turns out to be Dominique Blatt and she takes in Mary after her dancer mother dies. Dominique treats Mary like a maid and does everything she can to make sure Mary doesn’t get into the top dance school. Her two daughters are equally determined to stop Joey falling for Mary, even if that means embarrassing her.

The story, though it mostly follows Cinderella, does add a few modern day twists to the classic fairy tale. Refreshingly, the film, unlike many high school films, does not focus on looks, although the actors are all beautiful. There is also a lot less materialism in Another Cinderella Story than in many similar movies.

“The movie takes the Cinderella fairytale as its jumping off point,” writes movie critic Amber Wilkinson, “The focus is firmly on following your dream.”
