The students today are given very much homework to do after class. Most of them have difficulty finishing them on time. As a result some and more parents offer to help their children with their homework, hope to reduce their learning burden in a way. People have different view on whether parents should help their children do their homework. As far as I am concerned, it was beneficial for parents to help their children unless the homework is too difficult for them to deal with. For one thing, it relieves the children’s stress or builds up their confidence. For another, it’s a good way for parents to know their children better off. Most important of all, it strengthens relationship between parents and children.

第二处:finishing后的them→it。考查代词。根据语境可知,此处指代前文的不可数名词homework,故应改themit

第三处:some→more。考查形容词。根据语境可知,此处表示越来越多的家长帮助孩子做作业。故将some改为more。more and more"越来越多的"

第八处:or→and。考查连词。本句有两个谓语relievebuild up,它们之间是并列关系,不是选择关系,故改orand

第九处:去掉off。考查介词。此处表示这是父母更好地了解孩子的一种好方法。know sb. better表示"更好地了解某人",better off well off"比较级",意为"更富有的",不符合句意。故去掉介词off

【题目】A new study warns that about thirty percent of the world’s people may not have enough water by the year 2025.

A private American organization called Population Action International did the new study. It says more than 335 million people lack enough water now. The people live in 28 countries. Most of the countries are in Africa or the Middle East.

P-A-I researcher Robert Engelman says by the year 2025, about 3,000 million people may lack water. At least 18 more countries are expected to have severe water problems. The demand for water keeps increasing. Yet the amount of water on the earth stays the same.

Mr. Engelman says the population in countries that lack water is growing faster than in other parts of the world. He says population growth in these countries will continue to increase.

The report says lack of water in the future may result in several problems. It may increase health problems. Lack of water often means drinking water is not safe. Mr Engelman says there are problems all over the world because of diseases, such as cholera, which are carried in water. Lack of water may also result in more international conflict. Countries may have to compete for water in the future. Some countries now get sixty percent of their fresh water from other countries. This is true of Egypt, the Netherlands, Cambodia, Syria, Sudan, and Iraq. And the report says lack of water would affect the ability of developing to improve their economies. This is because new industries often need a large amount of water when they are beginning.

The Population Action International study gives several solutions to the water problem. One way, it says, is to find ways to use water for more than one purpose. Another way is to teach people to be careful not to waste water. A third way is to use less water of agriculture.

The report also says long-term solutions to the water problem must include controls on population growth. It says countries cannot provide clean water unless they slow population growth by limiting the number of children people have.

【题目】The House at Pooh Corner

by A. A. Milne

I bought a box set of four Winnie the Pooh books while on holiday when I was eight years old. I adored Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore. They became very real to me and I credit them with starting a lifelong love of reading.

I still have the box set, and loved reading the stories to my children when they were small. Part of me secretly believes A. A. Milne’s wonderful characters are all alive and well and still having their adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood.

Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights

by Charlotte and Emily Bront

I can never separate Charlotte Bront’s Jane Eyre and Emily Bront’s Wuthering Heights when I think about books that have stayed with me. Both had a deep impact on me when I read them as a teenager.

They were the first classic books I read purely for pleasure, rather than because I had to for school.

I grew up in Yorkshire, not far from where the Bronts lived, so part of me really understood that depressing landscape. That close geographical connection led to a lifelong interest in the authors as much as in the books themselves.

I wrote a high-school essay on the contrasts and similarities between Charlotte and Emily and their heroines. I’d be fascinated to read that essay now to see what conclusions I reached as a 17-year-old.
