put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!

A boy complained about difficulties in life. His grandmother, who showed that a cake tasted delicious
but its materials tasted awful, taught him that the trials of life make people stronger.
From the story I have learned that the trails of life are of great importance in our growth. As the saying goes, "No cross, no crown." Only by facing and overcoming difficulties in our life can we grow up happily and healthily.
It reminds me of my own experience when I joined in the military training after I entered senior high
school. It was the first time I had lived away from my home, so I found it difficult to fit in. But the trails
made it easier for me to adapt to life in senior high school, and the difficulties I came across have now
become a precious memory in my life.
Life consists of not only sunshine but also hard times. We should be brave in front of difficulties. Let's
learn to use the trials of life we are facing as a stepping-stone to future success.

The elephant and the fly

A disciple(信徒), who was disturbed by the fact that his mind was in constant unrest, asked his teacher, “Why are most people's minds restless? What can one do to still the mind? ” The teacher looked at the disciple, smiled and told him a story:

An elephant was standing and picking leaves from a tree.A small fly came, flying and buzzing(嗡嗡叫)near his ear.The elephant waved it away with his long ears. Then the fly came again, and the elephant waved it away once more.

This was repeated several times. Then the elephant asked the fly, “Why are you so restless and noisy? Why can't you stay for a while in one place? ”

The fly answered, “I am attracted to whatever I see, hear or smell. My five senses pull me constantly in all directions and I cannot resist them. What is your secret? How can you stay so calm and still? ”

The elephant stopped eating and said, “My five senses do not rule my attention.Whatever I do, I get immersed in it.Now that I am eating, I am completely absorbed in eating. In this way I can enjoy my food and chew it better.I rule and control my attention, and not the other way around.”

Upon hearing these words, a smile appeared on the disciple's face, “I understand! If my five senses are in control of my mind and attention, then my mind is in constant unrest. If I am in charge of my five senses and attention, then my mind becomes calm.”

The ultimate (最终的) goal of life is to achieve happiness, and the way to achieve happiness is to
wise management. So says The Sims (模拟人生),an American strategic life-simulation computer game
that lets you create, direct, and manage the lives of SimCity's residents.
Similar to the life of a real person, the game begins with the creation of your simulated(模拟的)people: pick a name and a gender, decide on personality/astrological sign (星座), and then choose a look from a
variety of heads, bodies, and skin tones. Each little Sim person has all basic needs (Hunger, Comfort, Fun, etc.) like a human which can be satisfied by interaction with other Sims or purchased objects. Name,
gender, and appearance don't affect gameplay much, but personality determines how your Sim plays with others.
One gameplay goal is to improve your Sim and eventually help him or her achieve happiness. With
proper management he or she can climb a career ladder, which nets him or her more money. This allows
the purchase of higher quality stuff, which lets you improve your Sim even more. With suitable care, your
Sim can have a mate, kids, and a mansion with an indoor pool. Mismanage your new, simulated family,
and fights will break out, jobs will be lost, and the house will fall apart.
With The Sims, you can create whatever and whomever you desire. Triumph or tragedy? You name it. In your real life, it is the same case.

Jackie is perhaps the most easily annoyed koala (考拉) at the Featherdale Wildlife Park in southern
Australia. All the koalas there are unhappy and complaining. You would be too if you were used to night
activities and someone kept waking you up all day while you were trying to sleep it off. That's right-sleep
it off. The average koala is always half asleep because it feeds on the leaves of a special kind that makes
it sleepy.
The reason Jackie and her fellow koalas are repeatedly awoken from their deep sleep is so they can be
hugged and photographed by tourists, who make the trips to Featherdale and an increasing number of other
national parks for just that special experience. Whatever department in the Aussie government in charge of
such things is now moving to make the practice illegal, which is understandable. How would you react, my
friend, if you were trying to sleep off a dozen times and some round, furry creature smelling of grass kept
waking you?

We all know the story of "The tortoise and the hare". The hare lost because he was overconfident. So
slow-and-steady wins the race. But did you know the tortoise and hare raced three more times? After his
loss the hare challenged the tortoise to a second race and this time ran without stopping from start to finish.
There was no doubt that he won. The lesson this time was that fast-and-consistent beats slow-and-steady.
Then the tortoise challenged the hare to a third race, over a slightly different route. The hare ran at top speed
until he reached a broad river. Although the finishing line was just a kilometre past the river, the hare had no
way of crossing and once more the slow-and-steady swimming tortoise came out on top.
The hare and the tortoise, by this time, had become good friends. They realized they could perform better
together than separately. So they decided to have one more race. But this time they would work as a team.
They started off, and this time the hare carried the tortoise till the riverbank. There, the tortoise took over and
swam across the river with the hare on his back. On the opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and
they reached the finishing line together, much more quickly than they had been able to alone. They both felt a
greater sense of satisfaction than they'd felt earlier.
