题目内容

Last Christmas, when I was in the fourth grade and my brother was in the first grade, our school held its yearly Holiday Shop. At the Holiday Shop, students can buy things like necklaces, key chains, and other small items for their friends and family as Christmas gifts. Since my brother really wanted to take part,my mum gave him two dollars to buy his Christmas gifts.

My mum didn't know that he had picked out a special necklace for her. When he got home from the Holiday Shop that day,he couldn't wait to show it to me. He pulled out a little green box and opened it. Inside was a gold chain with a little red flower and a man-made diamond next to gold letters that spelled out " Grandmother".

"Wow," I said, "It's beautiful. ” Since my brother was in the first grade and was just learning to read,he didn't realize that the necklace said "Grand?mother" instead of "Mother". I knew that on Christmas morning, when he found out,he had bought the wrong necklace,he would be very unhappy,so I said nothing more about it. My brother ran and put the necklace under his bed to hide it from mum until Christmas morning.

When he wasn't looking,I took the necklace and put it in my backpack. The next day I took it back to school and asked the woman who ran the Holi?day Shop if I could change it for the "Mother" necklace. She said yes. When I got home that day,I put the necklace under my brother's bed.

When my mum opened it up on Christmas morning,my brother was so exalted! My mum's eyes were filled with joy. She knew what had happened, which made the necklace even more special to her!

My brother still does not know what I did,but I knew I had done the right thing.

There are good people in this world. Many don't have the means to give, but they do help others.

They really shine this time of year. Maybe it's the season or maybe people notice more during the holidays. In one day,I read about two heroes to humani?ty. One is an anonymous donor from Kansas City,Missouri. They call him "Se?cret Santa". Every Christmas,he shows up at homeless shelters, food banks and other places where people in need go for help. He hands $ 100 bills to those in need. This year he travelled to parts of New York and New Jersey, where many lost everything to hurricane Sandy.

Escorted (护送) by a police motorcade made up of policemen from both New York and New Jersey,Secret Santa visited the hardest hit areas and distributed $ 100,000 to those in need.

That same day,I read about a man who has much less than Secret Santa to give away.

On November 14,2012,New York police officer Lawrence DePrimo was patrolling Times Square, when he noticed a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk. His feet were bare—no shoes or socks. Officer DePrimo was heavily dressed but was still cold that night. He wore two pairs of socks to fend off the cold.

He walked up to the man, asked him for his shoe size, went inside a nearby-shoe store and paid seventy-five dollars, walked outside, and handed him the new socks and winter boots. The man's face glowed with delight as he accepted the gift.

Officer DePrimo did this with no thought of being recognized for his kind?ness. The daughter of a former policeman 9 Jennifer Foster, witnessed the event and took a picture that tells a story that many will never forget―a kind man giving from his own savings to a man who was cold and had nothing.

What would this world be like with more people like Secret Santa and officer DePrimo?
