When a person is curious about something, it means he is interested in it and wishes to know something about it. There is   16   wrong with curiosity in itself. Whether it is good or bad   17  on what people are curious about.

Curiosity  18  can be foolish or wrong. Some people with nothing to do are  19  of curiosity about what their neighbors are doing. They have a strong wish to know what they are   20  home or taking outside, or why they have come home so  21  or late. To be interested in these things is silly because it is none of their 22   to know what their neighbors do or are doing. Such curiosity is not only foolish but also 23  . For most probably, it may lead to a small talk  24  often brings harm, loss of honor or disrespect to others, and thus  25  their feelings.

On the other hand, there is a  26  curiosity- the curiosity of wise men, who  27  at all the great things and try to find out all they  28  learn about them. Columbus could  29  have found America if he had not been  30 . James Walt would not have made the steam engine  31   his curiosity about the rising of the kettle lid. All the  32  in human history have been made as a  33  of curiosity, 34   the clever curiosity is never about unimportant things which have  35  or nothing to do with the happiness of the public.

It was Monday. Mrs. Smith's dog was hungry, but there was not any meat in the house.
Considering that there was no better way. Mrs. Smith took a piece of paper, and wrote the following words on it:“Give my dog half a pound of meat.” Then she gave the paper to her dog and said gently:“Take this to the butcher(* person whose job is selling meat)and he's going to give you your lunch today.”
Holding the piece of paper in its mouth, the dog ran to the butcher's. It gave the paper to the butcher. The butcher read it carefully, recognized that it was really the lady's handwriting and soon did it as he was asked to. The dog was very happy, and ate the meat up at once.
At noon, the dog came to the shop again. It gave the butcher a piece of paper again. After reading it, he gave it half a pound of meat once more.
The next day, the dog came again exactly at noon. And as usual, it brought a piece of paper in the mouth. This time, the butcher did not take a look at paper, and gave the dog its meat, for he had regarded the dog as one of his customers(*people who buy sth. from a shop).
But, the dog came again at four o'clock. And the same thing happened once again. To the butcher's more surprise, it came for the third time at six o'clock, and brought with it a third piece of paper. The butcher felt a bit puzzled. He  said to himself, “This is a small dog. Here is a question I have often asked at dinner parties:
You're on an island with only one other person, your best friend. He's dying of cancer. In his final days, he tells you, "I have 100,000 dollars in a bank back home. When I die, make sure my son goes to medical school." Then he dies. But his son is a no-good playboy who has no interest in going to medical school and will waste that money away in a very short time. But your son is entering college, and he is willing to become a doctor. Which one do you give the money to for medical school?
I've asked this question of everyone from the president of a famous university to an ordinary young soldier, and it has never failed to get a discussion going. Everyone has an opinion, most of them different, but all of them correct. Sometimes this one topic lasts the whole evening.

We have proof that you become what you eat. When you know the effects of different types of food, you can use your knowledge well and eat what you want to become.

Food has an impact on our physical and mental health. Have you ever heard any of the following advice?

Lettuce (莴苣) or milk can make you sleepy.

To stop feeling sleepy you should eat peanuts or dried fish.

Everyone has their own advice to give, which they have read about or have been told by older relatives. Some of these pieces of advice seem to contradict each other.

Eating chocolate makes you fat and gives you spots.

Chocolate contains the essential minerals: iron and magnesium (镁).

What we need to figure out is what type of chocolate to eat to get the benefits and how much of it to eat. We can do this by reading the list of ingredients (原料) on the chocolate bar package. Exactly how much real chocolate is in there? And how much of that do we need to eat to get the benefits of the minerals it contains?

Future restaurants might be named after the physical or mental state they hope to create. Their menus will list the benefits of each dish and drink. Some restaurants have already started this concept, and list the nutritional (营养的) content of their dishes on the menus.

Let’s take the restaurant “Winners” as an example. Their menu would list dishes specifically designed to help you win sports competitions. Or you could choose the Go-faster salad, which is a large bowl of mixed raw vegetables in a light salad dressing, giving you energy without making you gain weight. And what kind of dishes do you think would be on the menu at the “Clever Café”?

So what’s going to happen to hamburgers and biscuits? Will the concept of eating food, because it’s tasty, go out of fashion? Of course not! Junk food is also changing. If ice-cream is not good for children, can’t we give them fat-free, sugar-free tofu ice-cream? Unhealthy food is going out of fashion, so brands are changing. We are told not to drink cola because of the sugar and caffeine content so cola companies are making sugar-free and caffeine-free drinks. We are told dried fruit is a healthier snack than biscuits so some biscuit companies are making biscuits with added vitamins.

A.you will become your own food

2.What does the underlined word “contradict” mean in the text?

A.Oppose to                             B.Help with

C.Have influence on                       D.Benefit from

3.How can we eat chocolate properly, according to the passage?

A.To eat chocolate containing the essential minerals.

B.To read the list of ingredients on the package.

C.To get advice from others before eating real chocolate.

D.To learn how much chocolate we can consume before eating.

4.Which is true about the future restaurants?

A.The food in “Winners” can ensure you to win sports competitions.

B.They might list the nutritional content of their dishes on the menus.
