听力:
W:Robbie, this new walkman is really wonderful.
M:Richard and Marilyn bought it for me for my birthday.
W:They are so kind. You are very lucky, Robbie, to have such a nice family.
M:Is something wrong, Alexandra?
W:No, nothing.
M:Yes, there is.I can tell. What’s the matter? Come on, you can tell me.What’s up?
W:I received a letter from my parents this morning.I miss them very much. The Molinas treat me so nicely and I like being with your family so much…but when I received the letter with photographs of my family, I cried.
M:You really miss your family, don’t you?
W:Yes, I know I must seem silly. It’s not like I have nobody.I like the Molinas very much, and they’re so kind to me.
M:Hey, why don’t we go out for a hamburger and French fries? That’ll cheer you up.And you can use my walkman.
W:That’s a good idea. But if you go out, please don’t complain about your math teacher or your math homework, I want to have fun.
M:When do you want to leave for that seaside town, Martha?
W:I’m not sure yet, but maybe we should leave Friday after work. It’s a long drive. But I’d rather get there late Friday than midday Saturday. We have three day’s office time after all.
M:How long is it?
W:Five or six hours.
M:Say, you leave at 4∶30 right after work. And you’ll be there around nine or ten.
W:I suppose so.And we could still have a good night’s sleep.
M:What are you going to take?
W:You don’t think it’s going to be a bit cold at night at the seaside?
M:Maybe.I’m going to take a sweater or a light coat, just in case.
W:Hope you have a good time there.
W:Hello, Mr.Tan.Please have a seat.
M:Thank you…uh, sorry I’m a little late.
W:Hmm, yes, it’s now 1∶10 pm, 20 minutes late.I hope that’s not a habit. All right, first of all could you tell me about your work experience? What jobs have you had?
M:Well, I worked in a Quick Stop convenience store for two months as a cashier, and then I had a job as a cook at Jiffy Burger.
W:And how long did you have the fast-food job?
M:Uh, only a week…you see, there was this fire…
W:I see…hmm.Tell me, Mr.Tan, have you ever done office work before:typing, filing papers, arranging meetings and time schedules?
M:Uh no, but I’m sure I can do it.I can type pretty fast with two fingers, and…
W:With two fingers?Hmm, do you have any foreign language skills?
M:Uh, well I can order a meal in Spanish, and I can count to ten in Russian and…
W:Yes, very useful for this kind of office job.All right, thank you, Mr.Tan.This interview is over.Next, please.
M:Mrs.Whinfield, thank you very much for allowing me to visit your wonderful garden. It really helps me a lot to write an article on Dorset Gardens for our paper. Now, I wonder if I could ask you a few questions.
W:Yes, sure.
M:Could you tell me when you became interested in gardening?
W:Well, I was always interested in wild flowers. And then in 1980, I read Marjory Fisher’s book, Cottage Garden Flowers, which is full of practical advice and personal opinions. But I was reading about plans that I didn’t know.So I started to read as much as I could, and get different writers’ advice.I also used to visit Kew Gardens a lot. That was when we lived in Harrow West London.I learned a lot from my visits.By the way, Dorset is one of the England’s three most beautiful towns, the other two being Wiltshire and Somerset. You must know that.I am often invited to give talks to biology students in colleges.
M:Yes, certainly. That’s why I came here, mm.Now what was your first garden like?
W:It was a very tiny piece of land, which came with my house and Harrow, West London.I don’t grow many plants from seeds, but I have several friends, and we often give each other plants. My garden is a place which often reminds me of so many people through the plants they’ve given me.
Chico Rivera is a player on the professional baseball team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He learned to play baseball almost as soon as he could walk.Chico was more interested in baseball than in school. When he graduated from high school in Puerto Rico, he went directly to one of the professional baseball teams on the island. After two seasons, he was selected to play for the Pittsburgh team.During his first year there, he became an important member of the team.He was still only twenty years old.
Travel is a way of life for Chico now.He spends the winter in Puerto Rico, where he still plays for his
first team. Then he goes to Florida for spring training with the Pittsburgh team. The regular season runs from April to October, so Chico spends the summer in Pittsburgh. However, the team is on the road for much of the season, so he spends a lot of time in hotels and motels.
Good afternoon, and welcome to England. We hope that your visit here will be a pleasant one.Today, I would like to draw your attention to a few of our laws.
The first one is about drinking. Now, you may not buy alcohol in this country if you are under 18 years of age.
Secondly, noise.Enjoy yourselves by all means, but please don’t make unnecessary noises, particularly at night. We ask you to respect other people who may wish to be quiet.
Thirdly, crossing the road.Be careful. The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country.Use the crossing for walking and do not take any chances when crossing the road.
My next point is about litter. It is against the law to throw away waste materials in a public place. When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a litter bin.
Finally, as regards by saying, it is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you are under 16 years of age.
I’d like to finish by saying that if you require any sort of help or assistance, you should get in touch with local police, who will be pleased to help you.Now are there any questions?
