13.Honey from the African forest is not only a kind of natural sugar,it is also delicious. Most people, and many animals, like eating it.However, the only way for them to get that honey is to find a wild bees'nest and take the honey from it.Often, these nests are high up in trees, and it is difficult to find them.In parts of Africa, though, people and animals looking for honey have a strange and unexpected helper-a little bird called a honey guide.
The honey guide does not actually like honey, but it does like the wax(蜡)in the beehives (蜂房).The little bird cannot reach this wax, which is deep inside the bees'nest. So,when it finds a suitable nest,it looks for someone to help it.The honey guide gives a loud cry that attracts the attention of both passing animals and people.Once it has their attention,it flies through the forest, waiting from time to time for the curious animal or person as it leads them to the nest. When they finally arrive at the nest, the follower reaches in to get at the delicious honey as the bird patiently waits and watches. Some of the honey, and the wax, always falls to the ground, and this is when the honey guide takes its share(份额).
Scientists do not know why the honey guide likes eating the wax,but it is very determined in its efforts to get it.The birds seem to be able to smell wax from a long distance away. They will quickly arrive whenever a beekeeper is taking honey from his beehives, and will even enter churches when beeswax candles are being lit.

根据第一段的these nests are high up in trees, and itis difficult to find them. 故选A.
When they finally arrive at the nest, thefollower reaches in to get the delicious honey as the bird patiently waits andwatches.
Scientists do not know why the honey guide likeseating the wax,but it is very determined (下决心) in its efforts to get it.

15.It happened to me recently.I was telling someone how much I had enjoyed reading Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father and how it had changed my views of our President.A friend I was talking to agreed with me that it was,in his words,"a brilliantly(精彩地)written book".However,he then went on to talk about Mr.Obama in a way which suggested he had no idea of his background at all.I sensed that I was talking to a book liar(说谎的人).
And it seems that my friend is not the only one.Approximately two thirds of people have lied about reading a book which they haven't.In the World Book Day's"Report on Guilty Secrets",Dreams From My Father is at number 9.The report lists ten books,and various authors,which people have lied about reading,and as I'm not one to lie too often (I'd hate to be caught out ),I'll admit here and now that I haven't read the entire top ten.But I am pleased to say that,unlike 42percent of people,I have read the book at number one,George Orwell's 1984.I think it's really brilliant.
The World Book Day report also has some other interesting information in it.It says that many people lie about having read Jane Austen,Charles Dickens,Fyodor Dostoevsky (I haven't read him,but haven't lied about it either) and Herman Melville.
When they were asked why they lied,the most common reason was to"impress"someone they were speaking to.This could be tricky if the conversation became more in-depth!
But when asked which authors they actually enjoy,people named J.K.Rowling,John Grisham,Sophie Kinsella (ah,the big sellers,in other words).Forty-two percent of people asked admitted they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story (I'll come clean:I do this and am astonished that 58percent said they had never done so).

29.How did the author find his friend a book liar?D
A.By judging his manner of speaking.
B.By looking into his background.
C.By mentioning a famous name.
D.By discussing the book itself.
30.By lying about reading,a person hopes toB.
A.control the conversation
B.appear knowledgeable
C.learn about the book
D.make more friends
31.What is the author's attitude to 58% of readers?C
A.Favorable
B.Uncaring
C.Doubtful
D.Friendly.
4.Scientists have never known for sure whether dinosaurs were warm-blooded animals, like mammals and birds,or cold-blooded,like reptiles and fish.A re cent study shows that in fact many dinosaurs might not have belonged to either category but instead have fallen somewhere in the middle.
Warm-blooded animals ha ve bodies that are able to make their own heat.Their body temperatures stay about the same whether it is hot or cold outside.Cold-blooded animals can not make their own heat,so their body temperatures depend on how warm the outside temperature is.Warm-blooded animals have much more active lifestyles than cold-blooded ones.
When scientists first discovered the bones of ancient dinosaurs in the 1800s,they were sure the huge creatures must have been slow. But as scientists found more bones of smaller, quicker dinosaurs, like Velociraptor, they realized that the creatures may have been much more active than they had thought.
A team of biologists began to examine. They knew that warm-blooded animals grow faster than cold-blooded ones. The researcher realized that they could determine whether a dinosaur had been warm-or cold-blooded by finding its growth rate.
The scientists examine the growth rings in bones from 21 different dinosaur species. The width of the growth rings showed how much the dinosaurs grew each year, much like the rings in the tree trunk do.
"Our results showed that dinosaurs had growth rates th at were actually not characteristic of warm-blooded or cold-blooded animals,"said Brian Enquist,a scientist on the research team."They didn't act like mammals or birds, nor did they act like reptiles or fish."Instead, dinosaurs fell somewhere in between.Scientists called the middle-of-the-road creatures"mesotherms".
Being mesotherms gave dinosaurs many advantages. They were faster and stronger than reptiles that had to rely on the sun for warmth.Being somewhat cold-blooded had its benefits too.Cold-blooded animals burn energy more slowly. So they need much less food to l ive than warm-blooded animals."It is doubtful that a lion the size of T-rex could eat enough to survive,"explains John Grady, another biologist on the research team.By being mesothermic, the dinosaurs could be both fast and big.
