The Chinese (6.63% )overtook the Japanese (5.34% )in July to become the world's second most active Web users and China's personal computer market is set to surpass Japan's later this year, according to several industry sources.
The moat populous nation. which in 2001 outpaced the U. S. to become the world's biggest mobile phone market, is benefiting from years of rapid economic growth that has fuelled an explosion in electronics demand.
In international Web traffic, however. China remains a distant second to the U. S. (42.65% which is about eleven times larger than that of UK)according to California - based WebSideSfory Inc.
“We're seeing. China and other countries grow into important players on the Web.”said Geoff Johnson, Vice- president of WebSideSfory's statistical service. Japan, with a population of 127 million, was close behind. Fuelling Japan's growth is the explosion of mobile phone networks used to reach the Web.
America's dominance (优势) reflects its role in pioneering and commercializing the World Wide Web.
The rankings are based on electronic surveys of 125.000 sites globally using WebSideStory software. Some 20 to30 million visitors are tracked through the survey.
