Many arguments teenagers have with their parents are about one thing: independence. As you get older, you’ll want to do more stuff on your own, without your mom and dad tagging along with you. The arguments generally start when your parents think you aren’t ready for extra responsibility while you think you are. Arguing with your parents isn’t the best solution at all, but the best solution is gaining trust from your parents. 1

●Understand that it’s not your parents who do not want you to have independence, they want the best for you and think you’re not ready or you’ll hurt yourself if you have the freedom to do whatever you want. Show your parents you can be sensible. 2If you can’t get home by 9:30, they’ll never let you out after 10:00.

●Agree with them some “friends time” and some “family time” so that they know you won’t be spending your whole weekend out with your friends. 3They won’t imagine you getting into trouble if they know how they are.

4 They won’t feel much worried letting you go off on your own if they know what you’re up to. Call in and tell your parents that you’re OK from time to time. The less they worry about you, the more independence you’ll gain.

5If they find out, all that trust will be destroyed and then you'll never get the extra independence you ever wanted.

A. Show your parents how independent you are.

B. Never lie to your parents about where you’re going.

C. Remember to ask for your parents’ help if you need it.

D. Always tell your parents where you are, and who you’re with.

E. Generally speaking, they won’t be worried about increasing your independence.

F. And before you enjoy the “friends time' introduce your friends to your parents.

G. Agree a time you’ll be home with your parents, and always make sure you keep to it.

1根据前一句the best solution is gaining trust from your parents.(最好的方法是获取父母的信任。) Understand that it’s not your parents who do not want you to have independence, they want the best for you and think you’re not ready or you’ll hurt yourself if you have the freedom to do whatever you want.

Agree with them some “friends time” and some “family time” so that they know you won’t be spending your whole weekend out with your friends.

They won’t feel much worried letting you go off on your own if they know what you’re up to.

If they find out, all that trust will be destroyed and then you’ll never get the extra independence you ever wanted.

I told my friend Graham that I often cycle two miles from my house to the town centre but unfortunately there is a big hill on the route. He replied, "You mean fortunately." He explained that I should be glad of the extra exercise that the hill provided.
My attitude to the hill has now changed. I used to complain as I approached it but now I tell myself the following. This hill will exercise my heart and lungs. It will help me to lose weight and get fit. It will mean that I live longer. This hill is my friend. Finally I comfort myself with the thought of all those silly people who pay money to go to a gym and sit on stationery exercise bicycles when I can get the same value for free. I have a smile of satisfaction as I reach the top of the hill.
Problems are there to be faced and overcome. We cannot achieve anything with an easy life. Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind person to gain a university degree. Her activism and writing proved inspirational. She wrote, "Character cannot be developed in ease. Only through experiences of suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved."
One of the main determinants of success in life is our attitude towards adversity (逆境). From time to time we all face hardships, problems, accidents and difficulties. Some are of our making but many are no fault of our own. While we cannot choose the adversity, we can choose our attitude towards it.
Douglas Bader was 21 when in 1931 he had both legs cut off following a flying accident. He was determined to fly again and went on to become one of the leading flying aviators in the Battle of Britain with 22 aerial victories over the Germans. He was an inspiration to others during the war. He said, "Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can't do this or that. That's nonsense. Make up your mind, you'll never use crutches (拐杖) or a stick, and then have a go at everything. Go to school, and join in all the games you can. Go anywhere you want to. But never, never let them persuade you that things are too difficult or impossible."
The biographies (传记) of great people are full of examples of how they took steps to overcome the difficulties they faced. The common thread is that they did not become depressed. They chose their attitude. They chose to be positive. They took on the challenge. They won.
Nevertheless, there is still the problem of how you change your attitude towards adversity.

A.Nothing is difficult to the man who will try.
B.A bad workman quarrels with his tools.
C.If you risk nothing, you will have nothing.
D.Failure is the mother of success.
(3)Following this passage, the author will further talk about .
A.how his friend helped him to change his attitude towards the adversity he faced
B.why it is important to keep optimistic in face of adversity

Ways to Find the Happiness in Front of You
We struggle with war, poverty, global warming. Famous people have wonderful lives, but you don't, and the "if only's" threaten to win the day: "My life would be sweet if only I were richer, had a better job..."
And it doesn't care how much money you have or what the circumstances of your life are. Look through the suggestions on how to look on the bright side and find the happiness in front of you.

If I'm feeling low, one of the best ways I know to cheer up is to make a love list. It's simple, just a list of every single person I love. Then I can put it in a pocket to take with me on a tough day, or just keep it in mind as I get on with my life.
Find Lost Friends
I recently took some time to seek out people that I've lost touch with over the years.. Within 24 hours I had baby pictures and recent histories. But the interesting thing was that all the people I got in touch with had been thinking about contacting me a couple of days before getting my email.
Think Positively
I'm not saying your problems are over, but simply looking at the world through rose-colored glasses means that half your problems will look like exciting challenges, and the other half you'll probably realize aren't problems at all, just facts of life.
A. Create a love list
B. But happiness is all around you.
C. Wish upon a star
D. I wonder whether they still remember me.
E. We hear of people getting sick or dying.
F. If you can get optimistic and stay that way, you're sure to succeed.
G. It took only a little time to shoot a few quick emails around the country.
