The HOPE IS A GAME--CHANGER PROJECT will deliver unbreakable soccer balls to kids who, all too often, see things horrible, broken and not survive the simplest of circumstances. The project started taking form well before anyone knew where it would lead –which is to test the power of like-minded people working together to turn inspiration into action.

Four years ago Bobby was in Rwanda offering help to the people there and taking photos of a child soldier named Moise with his “soccer ball”,which was a pile of rubbish tied together with a string. This “ball” was the only thing Moise could call his own --- no family, no home, no place to go. Forced to fight in the Congo and having killed three people at the unbearably young age of seven, the boy’s spirit was broken. And Bobby knew, as he took one photo after the next, that he’d never forget him. In fact, he returned the following year to tell Moise he had stayed deep within his heart ---but he was gone.

I recently helped Bobby launch his new book The Power of the Invisible Sun which features a photo of Moise, his ball, and kids from war-torn areas around the world. All of his earnings go towards the HOPE IS A GAME-CHANGER PROJECT for the kids he visited over the past decade. They caught the emotional landscape from heartbreak to joy, but share the undeniable longing for recovery and hope.

Bobby and I share the unchangeable belief that delivering hope is really a game-changer, especially to a child. We believe that each indestructible ball will come to represent a lasting symbol of hope. A light no matter how small---The Power of the Invisible Sun.

This holiday season, I ask you to think about whether you are doing enough to help someone else in the world. Or as Bobby likes to put it, consider “taking a concrete baby step”, which added together, can create transformational change. It’s my great hope that the HOPE IS A GAME-CHANGER PROJECT will change the lives of children the world over --- one book, one ball at a time.

In the first sentence of the passage, the writer implies that        .

A.kids live an unsafe life in parts of the world

B.the balls sent to kids should be of good quality

C.young kids can not overcome the difficulties

D.kids intend to break their toys into pieces

The purpose of The HOPE IS A GAME-CHANGER PROJECT is to        .

A.send ball gifts to kids in poor countries

B.collect money to help kids in need

C.comfort kids in war-torn areas

D.offer kids help to change their lives

A.He was very proud of Mosie’s bravery.

B.He felt sorry for Mosie’s ruined childhood.

C.He thought money could solve Mosie’s problem.

Which of the following about Bobby’s new book is TRUE?

A.It earned a lot of money to help kids like Mosie.

B.The photos inside reflected the kids’ hopeless life.

C.Its title shows the author’s belief to change the world.

D.It changed the life of the kids recorded in the book.

A.starting the first step as a baby does

B.taking an active action from now on

C.making great changes step by step

D.doing some small but good deeds

I remember one Thanksgiving when our family had no money and no food, and someone came knocking on our door. A man was __36_____ there with a huge box of food, a giant turkey and even some ___37___to cook it in. I couldn’t ___38_____it. My dad demanded, “Who are you? Where are you from?” The stranger announced, “I’m here because a friend of yours knows you’re in need and that you wouldn’t accept ___39_____help, so I’ve brought this for you. Have a great Thanksgiving.” My father said, “No, no, we ___40_____ accept this.” The stranger replied, “You don’t have ___41_____” , closed the door and left.
Obviously that experience had a profound impact(深刻影响)on my life. I ____42____myself that someday I would do well enough financially ___43____ I could do the same thing for other people. By the time I was eighteen I had created my Thanksgiving ritual(习惯). I would go out __44_____ and buy enough food for one or two __45_____. Then I would dress like a delivery boy, go to the ____46____ neighborhood and just knock on a ___47_____ . I always ___48_____ a note that explained my Thanksgiving experience ____49____a kid. The note said, “All that I ask __50______is that you take good enough care of __51_____ so that someday you can do the same thing for someone else.” I have received more from this annual ritual than I have from any amount of ___52_____ I’ve ever earned.
Years ago I was in New York City with my new wife during Thanksgiving. She was sad because we were not with our family. ___53____she would be home decorating the house for Christmas, but we were ___54_____ in a hotel room. When I told her what I always did on Thanksgiving, she got excited.
We packed enough food for seven families for thirty days and went to buildings where half a dozen people lived in one room with no electricity and no heat in winter surrounded by rats, cockroaches(蟑螂)and the smell of urine(尿). It was both an ___55______realization that people lived in this way and a truly fulfilling experience to make even a small difference.

Cheating happens a lot in our city. It can be hard to know who is really in   1  and who is trying to take advantage of other people's    2  .

Recently, I was finishing my work at home    3  the dog barked letting me know that   4  was at the gate. I rushed to see who it was and there I saw a   5  weak woman in her late fifties. I said to her, "May I ask you what you   6 ?" She   7  , "Hello, my name is Mary. My husband and I live in the slum nearby. We earn our living   8  working at construction sites. A few days ago my   9  tripped on the stairs while

10  a heavy load. He is   11  hurt and hasn't been able to  12 for the past five days, so we have no food. Now he is at home in bed with a high fever. Please help me! I need to take my husband to a doctor!"

"Oh!" I said. "Please  13  here." I went into the room. I felt really bad about her  14  but--- Was she telling me the   15  or trying to cheat me out of my money?

Finally, I   16 to help her. But first I said a simple prayer, "Dear Lord, you know  17  I earn my pennies, so please make sure that my hard earned money helps those who  18 need it. Amen." I went out with a fifty note and

19 it to her. The moment she got the money she broke down in tears. She took my hand and said, "May god bless you, my dear! Thank you so much!"

I was so   20 , and turned back to my work smiling.

A round of applause, please, for the Indian man who recently sang for 80 hours straight, setting a new Guinness world record. It’s an impressive feat, to be sure, but let’s just hope he still has a voice.According to Indian newspapers, Rajesh Burbure has been told to keep silent for several days so his vocal cords(声带)can heal.

It was reported that Burbure and his family are in a celebratory mood. "It's a proud moment for all of us," his wife told DNAIndia.com.

I, on the other hand, am unable to share their enthusiasm.Don't get me wrong: I hope the 35-year-old Burbure lives forever, sells a million records and becomes an international celebrity. But his record—singing for 80 hours straight—is about as meaningful as most of the other curious but crazy feats listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Granted, I'm not qualified to speak on the subject.I've got no world records to my name, and I never expect to have any. Then again, maybe I am qualified to speak for those of us who have better things to do than train for years to sing an 80-hour medley(集成曲)of pop songs.

But let’s not just pick on poor Burbure. He’s not the only person chasing meaningless accolades(荣誉).The Guinness Book of World Records is full of the names of people who at one time grew the longest hair, or built the biggest bicycle, or baked the largest cheesecake.

To all of these enterprising souls I ask, simply, "What was it all for?"

Congratulations! For all of your painstaking effort, you became a footnote in a thick book that no one reads, except for you and the person who will eventually surpass you, with one more hour of singing, a few more centimeters of steel or a few more pounds of cheese.

After all, records are made to be broken.

D.has no Guinness records, so he admires Burbures’ feat

2.Before someone wins a Guinness record, he or she has to ________.

A.become an international celebrity

B.know all about Guinness records

C.practice a great deal

D.bear great stress for fear of injury

3.We can infer from the article that ________.

A.after the 80 hours of singing, Burbure could no longer speak

B.Burbure’s wife didn’t support his attempt to make a Guinness record

C.many have criticized Burbure for his stupid behavior

D.challenging a Guinness record may be harmful to the health

4.The author’s attitude to some Guinness world records is ________.

A.positive           B.impressed         C.negative          D.touched
