题目内容
Sleep is a serious business for China’s education authorities. Yu Jianwei, an official with the National People’s Congress Internal and Judicial Affairs Department, said that according to a survey, at least 30 million students under the age of 17 have suffered from a variety of emotional and behavioral problems. The number of people under the age of 18 in China is more than 300 million.
As early as in 1994, the National Educational Committee (the predecessor of the Ministry of Education) issued a document to guarantee sleep for students. On June 1, 2007, the revised law On the Protection of Minors stated that schools and parents must ensure that primary and secondary school students get enough sleep.
The Educational Ministry regulates the amount of homework students are given and also dictates that teachers are not allowed to occupy students' spare time, including week-ends and vacations, with extra classes.
In 2008, schools in three districts in Shanghai began asking students to arrive half an hour later, and replaced the original morning reading time with physical activity.
In addition to Shenyang, many other provinces and cities have introduced measures to ensure primary and secondary school students get more sleep.

From the report we can clearly see that a 1ack of sleep may cause many health problems, especially for adolescents. And the problem has gained extensive attention of the society.
According to my experience, I learn that a long-term lack of sleep will not only make us tired but also make it difficult for us to adapt to school. Even worse, we are at the risk of developing dangerous behavior such as depression, smoking and so on.
As a student, I know there are many reasons for our loss of sleep, mostly connected with the pressure to succeed. For example, we have to spend much time on homework and other study assignments from teachers and parents. Besides, the present educational system is an important factor.
Luckily, some effective steps have been taken to ensure enough sleep for students. So I think only by taking a joint effort of families, schools and the government can we ensure students get more sleep to keep healthy

All people need to sleep. Sleep is a necessary process that promotes proper body functioning and can improve the quality of your life. Not only is the quantity of sleep important, but also the quality of sleep.
Your bedroom should be shaped to your taste and allow you to sleep in a peaceful environment. One of the biggest mistakes people make in their sleep is to use their bedroom for activities other than sleep. If your bedroom also functions as a command station for your life and work, the likelihood(可能性)of your sleeping being poor is rather high. Avoid hot food, caffeine, sugar and alcohol at least 4 to 6 hours before your sleep time.Develop a regular exercise program.Proper exercise and nutrition will help improve sleeping patterns. However, avoid exercising 2 hours before sleeping, since this may stimulate(刺激)your body and make sleeping more difficult.
Establish a pre-bedtime rule that will help you focus on sleep. You can try meditation (沉思), reading or deep breathing and relaxation. Your bedtime rule should be yours. Do not worry about it fitting into a specific category(种类).Do what is best for you.
Things such as room temperature, noise and light levels and even your bed mattress(垫子) can have a lot of effect on the quality of sleep that you experience. Block out distracting(使人分心的) noises and lights. You are in your bedroom to sleep and not be distracted by environmental interferences (干扰).

Celebrating Sleep
World Sleep Day, observed on 21 March, was created to bring attention to the growing number of sleep problems worldwide. Sleep is a natural part of human life, but many people in the modern world ignore its importance. As a result, sleep problems are increasingly common.
In 2002, scientists at the University of Athens in Greece conducted a survey of over 35,000 people in 10 countries around the world, including China, Belgium and South Africa. Of the people that responded to the survey, 24 percent said that they did not sleep well, and based on their responses, 31.6 percent were diagnosed with insomnia and another 17.5 percent were diagnosed with borderline insomnia(失眠). In addition, 30.7 percent of survey respondents reported visiting a doctor for help with sleep problems and 11.6 per cent said that they felt very sleepy during the day.
Overall, the survey found that many people suffer the effects of poor quality sleep, some examples of which are being unable to fall asleep and waking up in the middle of the night. The main factors causing these problems are pressure from school or work and a fast pace of life, but noise pollution and light pollution also interfere with sleep and contribute to poor quality sleep. The survey’s findings are particularly troubling because large numbers of people were found to have difficulty sleeping at night. The short-term effects of this are tiredness and trouble concentrating. If this happens for a long time, the risk of gaining weight and having a heart attack may increase.
There are many things you can do to improve the quality of your sleep. First, you should have regular sleep habits. Try to go to bed and wake up around the same time each day. You also need to make your bedroom a cool, dark, quiet place to sleep so that heat, light and noise do not disturb you. At night, you should also avoid things that contain caffeine, such as chocolate, coffee, tea and many soft drinks, as caffeine may keep you from sleeping.
Getting a good night’s sleep is important for everyone. By following the advice above, you can rest better at night and work better during the day.
