Do you love the holidays, but hate gaining weight? You are not alone. Holidays are times for  celebrating. Many people are worried about their weight. With proper planning, though, it is possible to keep normal weight during the holidays. The idea is to enjoy the holidays but not to eat too much. You don't have to turn away from the foods that you enjoy.

Here are some tips for preventing(阻止) weight gain and maintaining(维持) physical fitness: Don't skip meals. Before you leave home, have a small, low-fat meal or snack. This may help to avoid getting too excited before delicious foods.

Control the amount of food. Use a small plate (about 10 inches) and put aside the large ones that may encourage you to "load up". You should be most comfortable eating an amount of food about the size of your fist (拳头).

Begin with soup and fruit or vegetables. Fill up beforehand (预先) on water-based soup and raw fruit or vegetables. Or drink a large glass of water before you eat to help you to feel full.

Stick to physical activity. Don’t let exercise take a break during the holidays. A 20-minute walk helps to burn off excess calories.

Avoid(避免) high-fat foods. Dishes that look oily or creamy may have large amount of fat. Choose lean meat (瘦肉).Fill your plate with salad and green vegetables. Use lemon juice instead of creamy food.

Our spiritual intelligence quotient (精神智商),or SQ, helps us understand ourselves, and live fuller, happier lives.

Though we're all born with SQ, most of us don’t even realize that we have it. Fortunately, you don't have to sign up for classes to learn how to improve your SQ. Here are some simple steps that can lead you to this new level of understanding.

Sit Quietly. The process of developing spiritual intelligence begins with solitude (独处) and silence. To tune in to your spirit, you have to turn down the volume (强度) in your busy, noisy, complicated life and force yourself to do nothing at all. Start small by creating islands for silence in your day. In the car, instead of listening to the music, use the time to think. At work, shut the door to your office between meetings, take a few breaths and let them out very, very slowly. Enjoy the stillness in your home after the kids are finally in bed.

Step Outside.  For many people, nature sets their spirit free. Go outside to watch a beautiful sunset. If you are walking with the dog, take the time to admire flower in bloom; follow the light of a bird and watch clouds float overhead.

Ask Questions of Yourself. Ask open-ended questions, such as "What am I feeling? What are my choices? Where am I heading?"

But don't expect an answer to arrive through some supernatural form of e-mail. "Rarely do I get an immediate answer to my question," says Reverend Joan Carter, a Presbyterian minister in Sausalito, California. “But later that day I suddenly find myself thinking about a problem in a perspective(角度) I never considered before.”

Trust Your Spirit. While most of us rely on gut(本能的) feeling to realize danger, spiritual intelligence pushes us, not away from, but towards some action that will lead to a greater good.

68. The passage is mainly about           .

  A. what your SQ is and in what way it can benefit our life

  B. what your SQ is and in what way it can be improved

  C. the relationship between your SQ and your life

    C. keep seated quietly                      D. change your spirit

70. The author mentions the example of Reverend Joan Carter to show that            .

    A. there are no immediate answers to your questions

B. e-mails can't keep working out a problem

    C. the more questions you ask, the better answers you'll get

D. changing your way of thinking might help you solve a problem

71. From the passage, we can know that the most important thing to improve your SQ is      .

 A. a peaceful mind    B. deep thought   C. spare time and hobbies   D. good spirits

The announcements by the NASA,in the form of several Web site postings and a video posted on YouTube, were in response to worries that the world will end on Dec.21,2012.

The doomsday(末日) rumour reached a high point with the release of the new movie “2012”,directed by Roland Emmerich. In the movie,Yellowstone blows up, showering the continent with black ash.Tidal waves wash over the Himalayas, where the governments of the planet have secretly built a ship which a select 400,000 people can ride out the storm. There are hundreds of hooks devoted to 2012,and millions of Web sites, depending on what combination of“2012”and“doomsday”you type into Google. All of it,astronomers say, is nonsense.“Most of what's claimed for 2012 relies on wishful thinking and ignorance of astronomy.”Ed Krupp, an expert on ancient astronomy, wrote in an article in the November issue of Sky&Telescope.

“I get angry at the way people are being influenced and frightened to make money,” Morrison said.“There is no right to frighten children to make a buck.”suggested David Morrison,an astronomer at the NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field,Calif. He said he had been getting about 20 letters and e—mail messages a day from people as far away as India scared out of their wits.Morrison said he did not blame the movie for all this,as much as many other supporters of the Mayan prediction. But then,he said,“my doctorate is in astronomy, not psychology.”

In an e—mail exchange, Krupp said:“We are always uncertain about the future, and we always consume representations of it.We are always attracted by the romance of the ancient past.”A NASA spokesman,Dwayne Brown, said the agency did not comment on movies, leaving that to movie critics. But when it comes to science, Brown said, “we felt it was careful to provide a resource.”

If you want to worry, most scientists say,you should think about global climate change or nuclear war.But if ancient prophecies(预言)get you going, here are some things Morrison and the others think you should know.

64.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

C.In terms of science it was better to provide evidence and theory at the same time.

D.Dr.Morrison thought it was not right to make money by frightening people.

65.It can be inferred from the text that         .

A.astronomers think that doomsday is likely to happen in the near future

B.the reason why the NASA posted web site postings was to make people interested in astronomy

C.scientists think we shouldn't worry about doomsday but show concern about environment protection

D.most astronomers agree that the world is not ending—at least anytime soon

66.Which of the following would be the best title?

A.A New Movie“2012”             B.Is Doomsday Coming?
