Spring Festival is one of the most important festivals to be celebrated by the Chinese in a year. Almost all companies and every school in China enjoy an especially long holiday, which is often about one to two weeks.

Before the spring festival, every family will make a general cleaning of their house. People believe that they have to clean away all the dirt and welcome the new year with a fresh and clean atmosphere in the house. Family reunion is particularly important in this festival. On the eve of the spring festival, the whole family will gather together to enjoy a sumptuous meal. After dinner, the children will receive red packets from their parents and older members of their family. Money is contained inside these red packets which is called "lucky money". On New Year Day, everybody will put on new clothes. They will visit their relatives and friends and wish each other a prosperous new year. Fireworks are also set off in celebration of the new year.
