5.Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways to improve our English writing abilities.
(61)Compared(compare) with other forms of writing,it is shorter and takes (62)less time.It can help us to develop the habit of thinking in English.(63)If we persist in this practice, gradually we'll learn how to express ourselves in English. In keeping a diary in English,we certainly run up against many difficulties. In the first place,it often happens (64)that we have trouble finding appropriate words and phrases to give expression to our mind.(65)Secondly (second),there are many idiomatic ways of saying things in Chinese, but it is  (66)extremely(extreme)hard for us to put them int o English properly.
As far as I am concerned,my (67)suggestion(suggest) is that we should always have a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy reach.Whenever something (68)beats (beat) us,we can first put it down in our notebook and then consult our dictionary. We can also turn to our English teacher for help,if necessary. In short,I believe that it is (69)ofgreat use to keep a diary in English for (70)thedevelopment of our writing skills.

61.Compared     62.less     63.If     64.that     65.Secondly     66.And       67.suggestion     68.beats     69.of     70.the
Keeping a diary in English,与compare是被动关系,故用过去分词错状语.
64.that;考查固定句型,It happens/happened that…
69.of;考查介词,"be of+名词"是 固定结构,相当于名词相对应的形容词,这里 is of great use 意为"very useful".

20.Most people around the world are right-handed.This also seems to be true in history.In 1799,scientists studied works of art made at different times from 1,500B.C.to the 1950s.Most of the people shown in these works are right-handed,so the scientists guessed that right-handedness has always been common through history.Today,only about 10% to 15% of the world's population is left-handed.
Why are there more right-handed people than left-handed ones?Scientists now know that a person's two hands each have their own jobs.For most people,the left hand is used to find things or hold things.The right hand is used to work with things.This is because of the different work of the two sides of the brain.The right side of the brain,which makes a person's hands and eyes work together,controls the left hand.The left-side of the brain,which controls the right hand,is the centre for thinking and doing problems.These findings show that more artists should be left-handed,and studies have found that left-handedness is twice as common among artists as among people in other jobs.
No one really knows what makes a person become right-handed instead of left-handed.Scientists have found that almost 40% of the people become left-handed because their main brain is damaged when they are born.However,this doesn't happen to everyone,so scientists guess there must be another reason why people become left-handed.One idea is that people usually get right-handed from their parents.If a person does not receive the gene(基因) for right-handedness,he/she may become either right-handed or left-handed according to the chance and the people they work or live with.
Though right-handedness is more common than left-handedness,people no longer think left-handed people are strange or unusual.A long time ago,left-handed children were made to use their right hands like other children,but today they don't have to.

17.People from East Asia tend to have more difficulty than those from Europe in distinguishing facial expressions--and a new report published online in Current Biology explains why.
Rachael Jack,University of Glasgow researcher, said that rather than scanning evenly (均匀的) across a face as Westerners do,Easterners fix their attention on the eyes.
"We show that Easterners and Westerners look at different face features to read facial expressions,"Jack said."Westerners look at the eyes and the mouth in equal measure, whereas Easterners favor the eyes and neglect (忽略) the mouth."
According to Jack and her colleagues, the discovery shows that human communication of emotion is more complex than previously believed. As a result, facial expressions that had been considered universally recognizable cannot be used to reliably convey emotion in cross-cultural situations.
The researchers studied cultural differences in the recognition of facial expressions by recording the eye movements of 13 Western Caucasian and 13 East Asian people while they observed pictures of expressive faces and put them into categories:happy, sad, surprised, fearful, disgusted, angry,or neutral. They compared how accurately participants read those facial expressions using their particular eye movement strategies.
It turned out that Easterners focused much greater attention on the eyes and made significantly more errors than did Westerners."The cultural difference in eye movements that theyshow is probably a reflection of cultural difference in facial expressions,"Jack said."Our data suggest that whereas Westerners use the whole face to convey emotion,Easterners use the eyes more and mouth less."
In short, the data show that facial expressions are not universal signals of human emotion. From here on,examining how cultural factors have diversified these basic social skills will help our understanding of human emotion.Otherwise, when it comes to communicating emotions across cultures,Easterners and Westerners will find themselves lost in translation.
