One possible version:

Haze hits Beijing frequently, which has caused widespread concern.

Our class decided to do something about it. Last week we first surfed the Internet for some information about haze, such as its causes, bad effects and solutions. With the information collected, we held a class meeting. Realizing haze's harm to our health, we decided to try our best to do something for the return of a blue sky.

So the next day we made many posters about haze and put them up in our school. It caught many students' attention, which encouraged us to continue our effort. On Saturday morning, we went to the neighboring community, calling on people to live a green life by choosing public transportation. People showed great enthusiasm for it. Even many people stopped to sign their names on our written proposal, promising to "go green"!

Haze or not, it's up to every individual's effort!

Blind imitation is self-destruction. To those who do not recognize their unique worth, imitation appears attractive; to those who know their strength, imitation is unacceptable.

In the early stages of skill or character development, imitation is helpful. When I first learned to cook, I used recipes (菜谱)and turned out some tasty dishes. But soon I grew bored. Why did you follow someone else’s way of cooking when I could create my own? Imitating role models is like using training wheels on a child’s bicycle; they help you get going, but once you find your own balance, you fly faster and farther without relying on them.

In daily life, imitation can hurt us if we subconsciously(下意识地)hold poor role models. If, as a child, you observed people whose lives were bad, you may have accepted their fear and pain as normal and gone on to follow what they did. If you do not make strong choices for yourself, you will get the results of the weak choices of others.

In the field of entertainment, our culture glorifies celebrities. Those stars look great on screen. But when they step off screen, their personal lives may be disastrous. If you are going to follow someone, focus on their talent, not their bad character or unacceptable behaviors.

Bless is that the person is willing to act on their sudden desire to create something unique. Think of the movies, books, teachers, and friends that have affected you most deeply. They touched you because their creations were motivated by inspiration, not desperation. The world is changed not by those who do what has been done before them, but by those who do what has been done inside them.Creative people have an endless resource of ideas. The problem a creator faces is not running out of material; it is what to do with the material knocking at the door of imagination.

Study your role models, accept the gifts they have given, and leave behind what does not serve. Then you can say, “I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors’ tragedies and declare victory, and know that they are cheering me on.

A.desperate to influence others with their knowledge

B.ready to turn their original ideas into reality

C.eager to discover what their ancestors did

D.willing to accept others’ ideas

4.The trouble a creator faces is .

A.the lack of strong motivation

B.the absence of practical ideas

If there's one thing I' ve learned from my years of being a kid, it' s that you have ZERO control over your own life.

Ever since school ended, I haven' t had anything I' ve needed to do or anywhere I' ve needed to be. As long as the air-conditioning(空调) was working and the TV remote had batteries in it, I was ready for a relaxing summer holiday.

But then, out of the blue, this happened - " Pack your bags. We' re going on a road trip ! " Mom said excitedly.

This isn't the first time Mom has sprung a trip on us without any warming. Last year on the first day of summer, she said we were going .to visit Aunt Loretta at the nursing home.

It wasn't exactly my idea of a fun way to kick off the summer. One time when we visited Aunt Loretta, her roommate grasped me and wouldn't let me go until someone gave her a chocolate cookie !

Mom kept talking about going to the nursing home for a whole day, which made me worry a lot. But at breakfast the next morning, she told us where we were really going - Disney World.

I was very happy, because I was really worried about spending the whole week at the nursing home. So was Dad.

But when my little brother, Danny, heard about the change he became very angry. Mom had talked up the Aunt Loretta trip so much that Danny was actually excited about going there.

We ended up putting off our trip to Disney so we could visit Aunt Loretta.

I tried to talk Mom into letting us do something normal, like going to a water park for the day, but she didn't want to hear it. She said that spending a lot of time together in the car would be a " bonding" experience for the whole family.

Sparrow is a fast-food chain with 200 restaurants. Some years ago, the group to which Sparrow belonged was taken over by another company. Although Sparrow showed no sign of declining, the chain was generally in an unhealthy state. With more and more fast-food concepts reaching the market, the Sparrow menu had to struggle for attention. And to make matters worse, its new owner had no plans to give it the funds it required.

Sparrow failed to grow for another two years. Until a new CEO, Carl Pearson, decided to build up its market share. He did a survey, which showed that consumers who already used Sparrow restaurants were extremely positive about the chain, while customers of other fast-food chains were unwilling to turn away from them. Sparrow had to develop a new promotional campaign.

Pearson faced a battle over the future of the Sparrow brand. The chain’s owner now favored rebranding Sparrow as Marcy’s restaurants. Pearson resisted, arguing for an advertising campaign designed to convince customers that visits to Sparrow restaurants were fun. Such an attempt to establish a positive relationship between a company and the general public was unusual for that time. Pearson strongly believed that numbers were the key to success, rather than customers speeding power. Finally, the owner accepted his idea.

The campaign itself changed the traditional advertising style of the fast-food industry. The TV ads of Sparrow focused on entertainment and featured original songs performed by a variety of stars. Instead of showing the superiority of a specific product, the intension was to put Sparrow in the hearts of potential customers.

Pearson also made other decisions which he believed would contribute to the new Sparrow image. For example, he offered to lower the rent of any restaurants which achieved a certain increase in their turnover (营业额).

These efforts paid off, and Sparrow soon became one of the most successful fast-food chains in the regions where it operated.

1.Which was one of the problems Sparrow faced before Pearson became CEO?

A. The number of its customers was declining

B. Its customers found the food unhealthy

C. It was in need of financial support

D. Most of its restaurants were closed

2.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A. customers of Sparrow restaurants

B. Sparrow restaurants

C. customers of other fast-food chains

D. other fast-food chains

3.For what purpose did Pearson start the advertising campaign?

A. To build a good relationship with the public.

B. To stress the unusual tradition of Sparrow.

C. To learn about customers’ spending power.

D. To meet the challenge from Marcy’s restaurants.

4.What was Pearson’s achievement as a CEO?

A. He managed to pay off Sparrow’s debts.

B. He made Sparrow much more competitive.

C. He helped Sparrow take over a company.

D. He improved the welfare of Sparrow employees.
