It’s the ending of 2016,but as USA Today says,“it’s never too late to plan your 2016 travels”.With so many hot destinations around the globe,“where should I go?” can be difficult to answer. According to Lonely Planet, though,Brazil is a fine choice-on Aug.29,the travel guide named that country the top one to visit in 2016.

“As if endless strands of coast and mountains, splashed with rainforest didn’t already add up to an unfair share of heaven (天堂),Brazil will hold two of the greatest sporting events in the world, beginning with the 2014 FIFA World Cup and followed by the 2016 Summer Olympics,”explained Lonely Planet.

Brazil is the largest and most populous country in South America. It boasts(自豪拥有) the Amazon, the world’s largest jungle, which is home to a variety of plants and animals. But the great landscape is not the only thing Brazilians take pride in.

The colors green and yellow might make most people think of Brazil’s soccer team even more than its national flag. Soccer is more than a sport in Brazil;it’s a way of life. In fact, the World Cup brings Brazilians together. It is interesting to note, that the general elections(大选) in Brazil are usually held during the same year as the World Cup. Political parties try to take advantage of the patriotic enthusiasm created by soccer to inspire political energy.

Alongside soccer, samba is another symbol of Brazil. The country’s most traditional dance is highlighted every February at the Rio Carnival, which is one of the world’s biggest.

“Brazil has left its second-class nation status,” said former Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in 2009 after Rio de Janeiro was awarded the 2016 Olympics.

Brazil’s growing economy, fueled (刺激) by oil and aircraft factories, has made it more than just a nation of samba, soccer and beaches. These days,it might just be the best tourist destination in the world.

B. Soccer and samba are two symbols of the country.

C. It is the largest country with the longest history in South America.

D. Its Amazon is the world’s largest jungle, Brazilians take pride in only.

A. his country will be the first class nation status after the 2016 Olympics

B. his country has been left behind by other second-class nations

C. he is confident that his country has developed very fast

D. the 2016 Olympics, not samba or soccer, has made his country the first class

3.The author’s purpose in writing the article is to ________.

A. prove that Lonely Planet’s recommendation is right

B. give an introduction of Brazil as a tourist destination

I was born in Thailand, where I feel at home. I am used to jumping on to a song taow (red taxi), and squeezing (挤过) in between two strangers. I am used to bargaining at the market to get a shirt that I like. I love telling bilingual (双语的) jokes and I am used to the surprised looks I get from the Thais when I can speak their language fluently.

Every two years my family goes to America for the summer, and every two years my world is turned upside down. The prices of everything are three times what they were in Thailand, but there is the sweet drink Dr. Pepper! And Bluebell Ice-cream! And everything you could imagine! I am amazed at it all, but the biggest change for me is the people. There are white people everywhere. I am not tall but average (中等的), my yellow hair is no longer out of place, and speaking English no longer draws looks. I should feel comfortable. I’m not out of place anymore, and nobody is looking at me, but I feel like they are. Now I feel out of place and different. I’m not used to giving people handshakes and hugs when I meet them for the first time. I get looks when I have trouble figuring out how much money to pay. I know different music, different places, and different fashion. I can’t understand these people who have never left their town or city.

Still, there are quite a few perks about living overseas. I get to meet people from all over the world, and I know how to adjust to (适应) different cultures and places. I have been to places most people see only in geography books. Still, being so different makes it hard to know who you are. I’m not Thai, but I am not American either. I am a mix of both cultures, a third culture kid.

A. upset B. strange

C. normal D. different

2.When the author returns to America, _____.

D. she is like a fish out of water

C. advantages D. suggestions

4.In this text, the author mainly wants to describe _____.

C. a feeling of loneliness

D. her ability to face difficulties

The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Copenhagen is offering a free meal to any guest who is able to produce electricity for the hotel on an exercise bike linked to a generator (发电机),The idea is to get people fit and reduce their carbon footprint. Guests will have to produce at least 10 watt hours of electricity — roughly 15 minutes of cycling for someone of average fitness. Guests staying at Plaza Hotel will be given meat tickets worth $36 once they have produced 10 watt hours of electricity. The bicycles will have smart phones attached to the handlebars measuring how much power is being generated for the hotel.

The plan, a world-first, will start on 19 April and run for a year. Only guests staying at the hotel will be able to take part. Frederikke Toemmergaard, hotel spokeswoman, said, “Many of our visitors are business people who enjoy going to the gym. There might be people who will cycle just to get a free meal, but generally I don’t think people will take advantage of our programme,”

Copenhagen has a long-standing cycling tradition and 36% of locals cycle to work each day, one of the highest percentages in the world, according to the website visitcopenhagen.dk. US environmental website treehugger.com recently voted Copenhagen the world’s best city for cyclists. “Because Copenhagen is strongly connected with cycling, we felt the bicycle would work well as a symbol of the hotel’s green profile (形象)."

If successful, the electric bicycle meal programme will be spread to all Crowne Plaza hotels in the UK, the hotel said in a statement.

B. The environment activists.

C. Health-conscious hotel guests.

C. longest bike paths

D. highest rales of people cycling to work

Meeting people from another culture can be difficult. From the beginning, people may send the wrong signal. Or they may pay no attention to signals from another person who is trying to develop a relationship.

Different cultures emphasize (强调) the importance of relationship building to a greater or less degree. For example, business in some countries is not possible until there is a relationship of trust. Even with people at work, it is necessary to spend a lot of time in "small talk", usually over a glass of tea, before they do any job. In many European countries — like the UK or France — people find it easier to build up a lasting working relationship at restaurants or cafes rather than at the office.

Talk and silence may also be different in some cultures. I once made a speech in Thailand. I had expected my speech to be a success and start a lively discussion; instead there was an uncomfortable silence. The people present just stared at me and smiled. After getting to know their ways better, I realized that they thought I was talking too much. In my own culture, we express meaning mainly through words, but people there sometimes feel too many words are unnecessary.

Even within Northern Europe, cultural differences can cause serious problems. Certainly, English and German cultures share similar values; however, Germans prefer to get down to business more quickly. We think that they are rude. In fact, this is just because one culture starts discussions and makes decisions more quickly.

People from different parts of the world have different values, and sometimes these values are quite against each other. However, if we can understand them better, a multicultural environment will offer a wonderful chance for us to learn from each other.

3.What would be the best title for the text?
