"I soon(66)learned/learnt(learn) how everything works in America,"the grandfather told my friend later,"Life's a cafeteria here.You can get anything you want as long as you are(67)willing(will) to pay the price.You can even get success,(68)but you'll neverget it if you wait for someone to bring it to you.You have to get up and get it yourself."

边"表示位置,at an empty table 意为"坐在一张空桌子边",故填at.  63.Finally  考查副词.根据句子结构可知,此处应用副词修饰后面的句子,故填finally.      64.how  考查疑问副词.根据下面那位女士所讲的内容可知,是告诉他自助餐厅是如何运作的,故填how.   65.the  考查定冠词.at the other end意为"在另一端"与前面的at that end相呼应,故填the.
66.learned/learnt  考查时态.根据句意:我很快就学会了在美国一切都是如何运作的,可知learn这个动作发生在过去,所以用一般过去时,故填learned/learnt. 67.willing  考查形容词.根据空前的are可知,此处应用will的形容词形式,构成短语be willing to do愿意做某事,故填willing.

3.Most people make a donation if they want to help those in need. And they hope that if they join demonstrations or hand out leaflets, they'll make others aware of the terrible conditions some people face. But 47-year-old British comedian,Eddie Izzard, did something completely different. He decided to raise money by running 1,100 miles through England,Wales,Northern Ireland and Scotland. And he managed to raise more than£200,000!
How long did it take him to run 1,100 miles?Believe it or not,it took him just 51 days. For six days out of every seven he ran at least 26 miles. In other words,he ran 43 marathons in less than two months, before he finished in great style and pouring rain in London's Trafalgar Square!
When asked how he felt,he told the BBC that he was planning to"sleep for a week".He thanked the people who had waited for him in Trafalgar Square despite the rain. They had all come to support him and to applaud his incredible achievement.
And the comedian admitted that his journey was pretty painful. He had to have his feet bandaged every day but still lost several of his toenails, and he had blisters (水泡)all over his feet.He wouldn't have been able to do what he did if he hadn't taken ice baths for his legs at the end of each day. These baths helped to"stop your legs inflating to twice the size of an elephant",as Eddie commented.
People who have no idea about running and experts alike are impressed with what he has achieved.Andy Dixon, editor of Runner's World,a magazine for long-distance runners, says,"Covering 26 miles in a day at whatever speed for 43 runs,it's demanding.A five-hour marathon is fairly decent pace. It's a massive achievement.
So,how did he do it?Well, when he decided to run,he wasn't even particularly fit.He ran his marathons slowly at first.Ten hours a day to begin with and,as he got fitter,he got faster. In the end he was finishing in just over five hours. But fitness alone was not enough. What was more important was the fact that he wanted to make a difference to other people's lives.
What Eddie Izzard did was so special that the documentary of his run has been made into an inspiring film:Believe!"You've got to believe you can be something else,"Eddie says in the film."I've done that a few times. That's why I keep going."

7.Two of the saddest words in the English language are"if only".I live my life with the goal of never having to say those words,because they convey regret,lost opportunities,mistakes,and disappointment.
My father is famous in our family for saying,"Take the extra minute to do it right."I always try to live by the"extra minute"rule.When my children were young and likely to cause accidents,I always thought about what I could do to avoid an"if only"moment,whether it was something minor like moving a cup full of hot coffee away from the edge of a counter,or something that required a little more work such as taping padding (衬垫) onto the sharp corners of a glass coffee table.
I don't only avoid those"if only"moments when it comes to safety.It's equally important to avoid"if only"in our personal relationships.We all know people who lost a loved one and regretted that they had foregone an opportunity to say"I love you"or"I forgive you."When my father announced he was going to the eye doctor across from my office on Good Friday,I told him that it was a holiday for my company and I wouldn't be here.But then I thought about the fact that he's 84years old and I realized that I shouldn't give up an opportunity to see him.I called him and told him I had decided to go to work on my day off after all.
I know there will still be occasions when I have to say"if only"about something,but my life is definitely better because of my policy of doing everything possible to avoid that eventuality.And even though it takes an extra minute to do something right,or it occasionally takes an hour or two in my busy schedule to make a personal connection,I know that I'm doing the right thing.I'm buying myself peace of mind and that's the best kind of insurance for my emotional well-being.
59.Which of the following is an example of the"extra minute"rule?D
A.Start the car the moment everyone is seated.
B.Leave the room for a minute with the iron working.

1.According to sociologists(社会学家),every modern industrial society has some form of social stratification(阶层).Class,power and status are important in deciding people's rank in society.
Class means a person's economic position in society.A commonly used classification is lower class,middle class and upper class.While sociologists disagree on how these terms should be exactly defined,they do describe societies like the United States quite well.One study shows that 53% of Americans belong to the lower class,46% the middle class,and 1% the upper class.Interestingly,a surgeon earning$500,000a year and a bus driver earning$50,000a year both regard themselves as the middle class!
Power refers to the amount of control a person has over other people.Obviously,people in positions of great power (such as governors) exercise(行使)big power,but people who take orders from others have less power.Power and class do not always go hand in hand,however.For example,the governor of a state has great power,but he or she may not belong to a corresponding (相应的)economic class.Generally,however,there is a relationship between power and class.
To our knowledge,there aren't too many people who aren't millionaires in the U.S.Senate!
Status is the honor or respect attached to a person's position in society.It can also be affected by power and class,but not necessarily so.For example,a university professor may have a high status but not belong to a high social class or have a lot of power over others.
54.What can we learn about"the middle class"from Paragraph 2?B
A.People earning$50,000a year belong to the middle class.
B.Nearly half Americans belong to the middle class.
C.People generally consider bus drivers as the middle class.
D.Sociologists have a clear definition of the middle class.
55.According to the text,we know thatA.
A.power and class do not always correspond with each other
B.status refers to a person's economic position in society
C.people with high status have a lot of control over others
D.class is less important in deciding a person's social rank
56.Which of the following shows the structure of the whole text?A
