Sometimes, something that is considered to be negative turns out to be an advantage on the job. Though he is only 18 years old and blind, Suleyman Gokyigit is among the top computer technicians and programmers at Inteli Data Technologies Corp, a large software company with several offices across the United States.

“After our company united with another one last October, two different computer networks were driving us crazy,” recalls Douglas Braun, the Inteli Data president. “We couldn't even send e-mail to each other.” In three weeks Mr Cokyigit created the software needed to connect the two networks. “None of the company's 350 other employees could have done the job in three months,” says Mr Braun. “Suleyman can ‘see’ into the heart of the computer.”

Mr Gokyigit's gift, as Mr Braun calls it, is an unusual ability to form an idea of the inside of a machine. “The computer permits me to reach out into the world and do almost anything I want to do,” says Mr Gokyigit.

The young programmer is at home with hardware as well, thanks partly to a highly developed sense of touch. Mitzi Nowakowski, an office manager at Inteli Data, remembers how he easily disconnected and reconnected their computer systems during a move last year. “Through feel, Suleyman can find the position of connectors, pins and wires much faster than most other people with sight,” he says.

Much of the student programmer's speed comes from his ability not to be interrupted while at the computer. When typing, he listens carefully to the synthesizer(合成器). His long, thin fingers fly over the keyboard. “Nothing seems to shake his attention,” says Mrs Nowakowskis, his boss.

Mr Gokyigit is the only company employee who is available(可找到的) 24 hours a day. “We consider him our top problem solver,” says Mr Braun.

The smallest animal with a backbone(脊椎) known to science, a fish from the carp family, has been discovered in the peat swamps (沼泽)of Indonesia. Mature(成熟的)females of the fish species (种类)Paedocypris reach just 7.9mm in length.

The species was discovered in the highly acidic (酸性的) peat swamps of the Indonesian island of Sumatra by a team led by Ralf Britz, a zoologist at the Natural History Museum in London.

“This is one of the strangest fish that I’ve seen in my whole career,” Dr Britz said. “It’s tiny, and it lives in acid. I hope that we’ll have time to find out more about them before their habitat disappears completely.”

The species lives in dark tea-colored swamp waters, which are 100 times more acidic than rainwater. Although these swamps were once thought to be inhabited by very few animals, recent research has shown that they are home to a highly different range of species that occur nowhere else.

The peat swamps were damaged by forest fires in 1997, and are also threatened by agriculture. The scientists behind the discovery said that several populations of Paedocypris had already been lost.

“Many of the peat swamps we surveyed(调查)throughout South-East Asia no longer exist,” Dr Britz said. “Populations of all the miniature(微型的)fish of peat swamps have decreased or disappeared.”

Details of the discovery are published today in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, Series B.

1.64.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A.The Strangest Fish

B.Acidic Peat Swamps

C.Strange Species

D.The Smallest Backbone Animal

2.65.Where does the smallest backbone animal live?

A.It lives in highly acidic rainwater.

B.The species lives in the acidic waters of dark tea-coloured swamps.

C.It was put in the Natural History Museum in London.

D.Its habitat disappears completely.

3.66.According to the passage, the forest fires in 1997 have led to the fact that______.

A .many places where these animals lived have been damaged

B.the population of the specieshas increased

C.there are many animals in the acidic peat swamps today

D. agriculture doesn’t affect the living space of these animals

4.67.Dr Britz’s words imply______.

A.the habitat will be more after a period of time

B.many peat swamps that they surveyed have already survived

C.he wants to find more miniature fishes before their habitat disappears

D. he wants to have further research

Barcelona is regarded as Spain's second city, behind capital Madrid. The city is rich in history. Barcelona
was founded by Carthaginians and according to tradition, it got its name from the great Barker family of
ancient Carpage. After numerous different conquers, including the Romans and the Moores that seriously
damaged the city, the Argons made Catalonia, of which Barcelona was the capital. Strong and prosperous,
since the 1970s, the city has formed its Catalon background. But it wasn't until the summer Olympics in 1992
that Barcelona became the modern, lively city that it still is today. And with this prosperity have come
wonderful hotels. The Raewon Callas the 1st was opened in 1992, by the King and Queen of Spain.
With buildings like the Casa Cal Bain and the Casa Minga, Antony Gaudy is believed to have made great
impact on the image of Barcelona. He also built the fantastic Park Quell. Antony Gaudy died in 1926, leaving

There are the attractions of coming to Barcelona?
There are many, many different attractions: culture, leisure, monuments, our architecture, and the
gastronomy (美食). Barcelona has commercial areas and shopping areas of five kilometers that goes around

So there is a mix between shopping and services.
One label that's hot among fashion consciousness is MIRO, and these trendy designs of clothing and shoes
originate in Barcelona. The region itself now produces for other international labels, like for the Gallic giant
Lacose.
No visit to the city would be complete without a tour of the Nou Camp, the home of one of Spain's finest
teams, Barcelona Football Club. FC Barcelona was founded in 1899 along with the other Spanish team, Real
Madrid. It's one of the greatest football teams in Europe. With players like Maradona and Ronaldo having
played for Barca, it's easy to explain their success! FC Barcelona is known to have won more cups than any
other team in European football history. The stadium, the Nou Camp, can hold one hundred and twelve
thousand people, making it one of the greatest places to watch and play "the beautiful game".
