题目内容
5.The ships and life jackets(救生衣) were ready. Now I just had to wait for my little brother,Daniel. His lungs had only 40percent of the breathing capacity(量)of an ordinary teenage boy.Every morning, evening and night,he did some breathing treatments.Daniel was fourteen-only four years younger than me-but I made it my business to look out for him.Friends who were coughing had to stay away until they were well.If not,it would mean a trip to the hospital if Daniel caught a cold. Many people said I was overprotective, but I knew it was my responsibility to keep him healthy.I was like Daniel's guardian angel(守护神),though he probably didn't know it.I climbed into my seat and waited. When he was breathing better,we made our way past the cliffs(峭壁) that lined the shore.Cliffs rose on either side of us,the water breaking against them. The ocean was mad,but it was no trouble for us with rowing(划桨)experience. We felt surprised at the beauty of the scene-clear blue sky and calm breeze.
"Whoa,"Daniel said, looking up.In minutes the blue sky became windy and dark.Waves hit the shore and our ships went up and down in the wave.I looked back at Daniel to make sure he was okay and he was.
I got a bit too close to a rock on my left side. But before I could move away,a strong wave swept up my ship and pushed me toward the very rock I was trying to avoid.I tried to slow down and keep my balance. But I was headed right for the rock!Suddenly,my ship was ripped(裂开)by the rock from under me.I fell into the water.Everything was white. After my head broke the surface,I looked around but my ship was nowhere to be seen. The waves were too strong.I could hardly move. The water pulled me and pushed me at its will.
I could see my brother 30yards away.He was just away from the dangerous white water and rocks, still upright,in his ship.If he came closer,he would fall into the water, too. He wouldn't have the strength to fight. But Daniel was already on his way, rowing as fast as he could.I caught hold of the back of his ship.Breathing hard,Daniel pulled me toward the ship.He struggled and could hardly breathe but kept rowing.
Finally my feet touched the shore. It took Daniel a while to get his breath back.We shared a quick hug and we both lay on the shore.
Looking at Daniel,I thought of something.
