Text messaging, or simply “texting”, with allows people to send and receive messages on mobile phones, becomes very popular today.

The advantages of texting are obvious. Texting helps to save money. If you have a few words to greet your families and friends on their birthdays or on some important festivals, sending messages can be cheaper than phone calling. Texting helps to save time. Even if you want to send a message to 100 people, you can do it one second. Texting helps you to “talk” to someone when he is too busy to answer the phone. Texting can also help you to “talk” to someone secretly if you don’t want others to hear what you are talking on the phone. These advantages are so amazing that many people are crazy about it. They hold mobile phones in hands all day long, send dozens of messages each day, and even text while driving or walking.

However, texting has its disadvantages. Junk messages may come into your mobile phone box now and then. When your phone box gets too full, you can’t receive any more messages. You may therefore miss some important information.

What’s more, if you don’t do texting properly, for example texting while driving or walking, it can be dangerous. It can cause injuries and even death. It was reported that about 6,000 people were killed and half a million were injured for this reason each year. In Fort Lee, a small town in New Jersey, USA, three people died because they walked into traffic while texting in 2011. Two researchers at Stony Brook University, New York found that texters are 60% more probably to have an accident than others. When people are texting, they don’t notice other people or things around them. To reduce traffic accidents, all drivers of the UN are now not allowed to text while driving. About 32 countries have passed laws restricting the use of mobile phones while driving.

Texting is a wonderful way of communication. However, only when we use it properly, can we fully enjoy the fun it brings.

There is a story of a country where the rate of inflation(通货膨胀) is so high that clever people pay for a taxi ride before, instead of after the trip. The story may not be true, but inflation was almost that serious in Germany from July 1920 until December 1923. Prices went up so fast that by the end of 1923 they were 50 billion percent higher-arise of almost 2,500% a month.

There was so much paper money, and it had so little value, that people carried bags full of money around to pay for things. One woman tells the story of standing outside a shop with a basket full of 500,000 marks(马克) notes. She wanted to buy just one piece of meat, and she hoped she had enough money. But when she was looking, a thief robbed her. He didn't take her money, he threw it away and took the basket instead.

At first workers demanded to be paid every day, but as the situation became worse, they had to be paid twice a day. But they had to run out and spend the money at once, or it would lose its value. People bought anything that was for sale, but food was almost impossible to find. Farm workers refused to take money. They wanted to be paid in potatoes instead.

New policies ended the inflation in 1923, when the government introduced a new money, but about half of the German people lost everything in those three and a half years.

According to the text, in Germany the prices in 1920 were ______.

A.the lowest in history                               B.the highest in history

A new study says one part of the human brain may become smaller as the result of a condition known as jet lag. Jet lag results from flying long distances in an airplane. People with jet lag may feel extremely tired for several days. They may also have problems thinking clearly and remembering.?

Recently a researcher at the University of Bristol in Britain reported the findings of his jet lag study, which involved twenty young women who worked for international airlines. They had served passengers on airplanes for five years. These flight attendants flew across many countries and at least seven time zones. In the study, the flight attendants had different amounts of time to recover from jet lag. Half the women spent five days or fewer in their home areas between long flights. The other half spent more than fourteen days in their home areas.?

The researcher took some saliva from the women's mouths to measure levels of a hormone(荷尔蒙) that increases during stress. He tested them to see if they could remember where black spots appeared on a computer screen. And he took pictures of their brains to measure the size of the brain's temporal lobes(脑叶).?

It was found that the women who had less time between flights had smaller right temporal lobes. This area of the brain deals with recognizing and remembering what is seen. The same group performed worse and had slower reaction times on the visual memory test. And their saliva samples showed higher levels of stress hormones.?

The researcher believes the brain needs at least ten days to recover after a long trip. He says airline workers told him their ability to remember got worse after working on planes for about four years. Other studies have shown that increased feelings of stress can cause a loss of cells in the part of the brain that controls memory.?

Scientists say more tests are needed to study the effects of jet lag on the brain. They want to find out if too much jet lag could permanently affect memory.?

According to the text, jet lag _______.?

A. can cause difficulties in speaking

B. can make people feel tired for a few weeks?

C. can be only found in flight attendants

D. can be caused by flying over several time zones?

It can be inferred from the text that _______.

A. the conclusion is refused by many scientists?

B. scientists fear that this research is not done properly?

C. every scientific conclusion needs the support from many tests?

D. the women who were examined in the research were not healthy?

From the result of the research we can see that _______.

A. the women who have longer rest at home show better memory?

B. the women who fly in short time have smaller right temporal lobes?

C. the women who have longer flights fail the memory test?

D. the women who rest more than 14 days produce less hormones?

What is the subject discussed in the text??

A. The cause of jet lag.?

B. A story of a group of flight attendants.?

C. The importance of having enough rest after flights.?

D. A research about the effects of jet lag on the brain.??

New Beijing, Great Olympics

The 2008 Olympic Games has been the most cheerful and anticipated(预先的) event throughout Beijing ever since Beijing was rewarded the right to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, yet the focus should be shifted from making a promise to carrying out the promise made.

In my point of view, to bridge the gap between the promise and reality, Beijing still has a long way to go. To begin with, basic-structure construction should be the primary concern. Such basic-structures as communications and transportation system and facilities ought to draw our constant attention. For example, traffic jam has been an age-old headache in Beijing. The scene of long queues of vehicles worming their way inch by inch will surely cause great disorder, and impair the image of the city meanwhile. Next, to add charm to convenience, overall city planning is quite necessary. Time permitting, a redesign of city plan and adjustment of architectural style would provide a better environment for cultivating the characteristic, mixing oriental elegance(东方的雅致) with international greatness, will tower aloft(在高处) among surrounding architectures. To achieve such effect, Beijing shall seek opinions from first-rate architects and make an overall plan. Thirdly, quality of the population should be improved. To make an international metropolis, both “hardware” and “software” are important.

However, Rome was not built in a day. To carry out the promise of “New Beijing, Great Olympics”, deeds speak louder than words.

What does the underlined word “metropolis” in paragraph 2 mean ?

A . suburb     B. small city    C. capital city   D. town

Which sentence is not true according to the author’s opinion in the passage?

A. Beijing has a crowded traffic since a long time ago.

B. Experts in architecture are also important to the city’s construction.

C. In order to host the 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing has preparations to make in many ways.

D. Hardware” refers to quality of people in Beijing.

How many aspects does the author mention to prepare for the Olympics in Beijing?

A. two: basic-structure construction and people’s quality

B. three: basic-structure construction, traffic problem and overall city planning.

C. two: basic-structure construction and overall city planning

D. three: basic-structure construction, overall city planning and people’s quality.

What can be inferred from the text?

A. Beijing is going to host the 2008 Olympic Games.

B. To carry out the promise of “New Beijing, Great Olympics”is a long-term work.

C. Traffic jams will cause a lot of trouble and make people feel sick..

D. An overall city plan is to make Beijing a city with eastern and western cultures mixed together.

[1]Today,millions of people want to learn or improve their English but it is difficult to find the best method. Is it better to study in Britain or America or to study in your own country?

[2]The advantages of going to Britain seem obvious.Firstly, you will be able to listen to the language all the time you are in the country. You will be aurrounded completely by the language wherever you go.Another advantage is that you have to speak the language if you are with other people. In Italy,it is always possible,in the class,to speak Italian if you want to and the learning is slower.

[3]On the other hand,           staying at home to study. You don’t have to make big changes to your life.As well as this,it is also a lot cheaper than going to Britain but it is never possible to achieve the results of living in the UK.If you have a good teacher in Italy,I think you can learn in a more concentrated way than being in Britain without going to a school.

[4]so,in conclusion,I think that if you have enough time and enough money, the best choice is to spend some time in the UK.This is simply not possible for most people,so being here in Italy is the only viable(可行的)option. The most important thing to do in this situation is to maximise your opportunities:to speak only English in class and to try to use English whenever possible outside the class.

The Americans believe that anybody can become President of the United States. In a recent Hollywood comedy(喜剧), that is exactly what happens.

Dave Kovic, played by Kevin Kline, is a kind-hearted man who runs a business that finds people jobs. He leads a typical(典型的) American way of life, except for one thing-he looks exactly like the President, Bill Mitchell. In fact, the only thing that makes him different from the nation’s leader is that he is very nice!

The president has started using look-alikes during some public appearances. Dave is offered a chance to “serve his country” by becoming one. However, things go wrong. The President becomes very ill and Dave ends up acting as the President forever.

Director Ivan Reitman, who made the popular and successful comedies like Twins, Ghostbusters and Legal Eagles, could have gone for easy laughs by making fun of the American government. Instead, Dave is an attractive comedy about an ordinary man in extraordinary situations. Kevin Kline gives a double performance as Dave and the President, and Sigourney Weaver is at her best as his First Lady. The love story that develops between her role and Dave is a real classic(经典).

The film is 100% American. However, if you’ve ever felt that anybody could do a better job running the country than the people in power, then you’ll enjoy Dave!

63.What is the purpose of the text?

       A. To tell the reader about the American government.

       A. Sigourney Weaver.         B. Kevin Kline.

       C. Bill Mitchell.           D. Ivan Reitman.

65.The underlined word “one” in the 3rd paragraph refers to _____.

       A. the President          B. the director     C. an actor    D. a look-alike

66.Which of the following is best supported by the text?

       A. The author makes fun of the President.

       B. The author thinks highly of the film.

       C. The author is a fan of Hollywood comedies.

       D. The author wishes to become the American President.
