(1) The word addiction usually makes you think of alcohol or drugs, but in modern-day society we are seeing some new kinds of addictions. Some people are compulsive (难以自制的) shoppers. Others find it impossible to pull themselves away from their work. Still others spend countless hours watching TV or playing computer games.

(2) Over the years, shopping has become a very common activity. Many people enjoy going to stores more and more every day, but it’s more than a common hobby for some of them. They have turned into shopaholics. They are people who simply enjoy shopping and walking around spending money without being able to stop doing. They are booked on shopping and usually buy things that they don’t need. Even though they don’t have enough money, they buy everything they want.

(3) The question is, why do they have this addiction? There isn’t a specific answer. Some people go shopping when they are sad, worried, upset or lonely and they want to feel better. They use this activity as a way to forget their problems. Shopaholics say they feel more important and better after they buy something. They also tend to have this addition when they feel guilty.

(4) Shopaholism seems to be harmless addiction, but it can _____. Some of them can be psychological. If this is the case, people addicted to shopping should go to a support group to help them break this habit. However, the process, like for most addictions, is long, and they suffer a lot. It can also cause financial problems. They just think about satisfying their feelings, so they spend money they don’t have. They get deep in debt, and they can even go bankrupt and get sent to prison.

An oral history is a piece of writing based on an interview with a person who has lived through a significant period in history or experienced a historical event. His or her memories provide a personal view of the past.

The first goal of all oral histories is to record stories about a specific subject. That subject may be a historical event like the D-Day invasion. It may be a period of history like the Depression, or a social or cultural trend, such as child labor. The first step in an oral history project, therefore, is to select a subject that interests you and is of historical significance.

Before attempting to identify people to interview for your project, you must first gather background information about the subject. The Library of Congress, which houses thousands of oral histories, provides these tips for researching your subject.

Before entering the library or logging onto the internet, decide on key words to use in your search. Use detailed search words. For example, search for rock and roll of the ’60s instead of the more general term music.

Look through newspaper and magazine articles and Internet Web sites to identify documents that are related to your subject. Make copies of those that will help you plan your interview questions and discard all others.

Discuss what you’ve read about your subject surprised you? What aspect of your subject would you like to know more about? Asking questions like these will help you to focus your subject and to identify the voice or voices you need to interview.

Oral histories are as much about self as they are about subject. One goal of an oral history interview is to find out what happened. A second and equally important goal is to discover how people reacted to or were affected by what happened. The person you select to interview, therefore, should have had some experience with the subject – either as a participant or a witness.

Once you have identified one or more people to interview, begin preparing your questions. The best questions are open-ended, encouraging the speaker to respond with more than a mere “Yes” or “No.” For example, an interviewer might have asked Clarence Hughart this question about his D-Day experience: Were you scared? That question, however, would probably not have elicited the sort of dramatic storytelling that Hughart provided.

Make a list of ten possible interview questions. The first two or three should be fairly general, asking the interviewee to talk about his or her childhood, perhaps. These kinds of questions put people at ease. Save more sensitive questions until the interview has been underway for five, 10, or 15 minutes or more.

After the interview come the final steps: writing a summary of the interview and then shaping it into a finished piece of writing.

To realize great things, you must dream great dreams. But dreaming alone isn't enough, you must believe in your dreams and you must act. Without action, even the most beautiful dreams will go up into the air when left undone in the foggy state of the mind.
Do you dare to be a dreamer? Prepare to go for it alone. Dreamers build bridges between the known and the unknown. As you dance your dreams into reality, those who can't hear the music may think you a fool. Pay no attention to those who would kill your dreams; small minds always do that.        1

Afraid you haven't got what it takes? Then get it!     2     There was one who had two dogs that raced every weekend. He took bets and always won. One week he'd bet on his black dog, and the black dog would win. The next week he'd bet on the white dog, and the folks who saw the black dog win the week before would bet on the black dog, but this time the white dog would win. Why? One week he'd feed the dog he wanted to win a grand diet, and just give the other dog enough to survive. The dog that was well fed was stronger and would always win the race. Your mind is the same way; it grows stronger or weaker with what you feed it. The diet of the mind is what gives you the confidence, courage, knowledge, and the direction you need to succeed in your dreams, or keep you from them.      3      The choice is yours and you make it every day.
Have you been waiting for the right time to reach for your dreams? Have you been waiting for the right circumstances to reach for your dreams? Have you been waiting for the right opportunity to reach for dreams? My dear, you're patient, aren't you? You could be waiting forever, you know. Time is an illusion. Circumstances are what you make them.     4      It doesn't burst in and shout its arrival.
Now is the right time. Circumstances change when you take action. Opportunity is yours for the making. So what are you really waiting for?
