Becky   46 . I knew she was not happy. I thought long about __47__ happened. At last, I found the answer. Becky saw me with my new friends and   48  that we no longer shared the same experiences. She saw all the fun I was having   49  her and wished she could a part of it.
I wrote a letter to Becky   50  she’s always my best friend. I told her everyone had many friends, who were indeed life’s greatest   51 . Becky wrote me back soon. She was in   52  and felt sorry about what she had done.

小题4:D 上下文串联。由下文“These were friends with whom I could be myself and __40__(pour) out my feelings”可知,与新朋友在一起应是feel comfortable(感觉愉快轻松),而不是其它感觉。
小题5:B.短语辨析。 pour out: 倾诉,倾吐,make out;辨认清楚,声称,填写,理解;figure out:算出,理解;hold out: 坚持,维持。我能够倾述我的感觉。

Three years ago, I had a job in a retail store (零售店). I    21   to talk to everybody and know what was going on in their    22  . I remember a girl who started    23   there a few months after me. We seldom talked but we always    24   each other and smiled.
She always smiled in a really happy way    25   one day when we got to work in the    26   department. She smiled as if she was the    27   girl in the world. I went up to her and asked, “What’s wrong with you?” She answered, “Why?” I said, “I could feel you’re very    28  , but you’re always trying to    29   it.”
Her mouth just dropped as if I had    30   her deepest secret, so we started talking. She told me    31   she was feeling unhappy and why she was trying to    32   that nothing was wrong. Time went by and we became good friends. She’d always tell me I had   33   her life in so many ways.
Today that girl is one of my best   34  . I really don’t know what I would do    35   her. She has been there for me in every    36   way a friend could be.
What I’m trying to say is that you never know    37   you’re helping yourself. I helped this girl never knowing that at the same time I was helping myself by finding a    38   friend.

Many years ago I was on a bicycle trip through some exceedingly picturesque (如画的) countryside. Suddenly, dark clouds piled up overhead and rain began to fall, but strange to ___50___, several hundred yards ahead of me the sun shone brilliantly. Riding, however, as rapidly as I could, I found it ___51___ to get into the clear. The clouds with their rain kept advancing faster than I could race forward. I continued this unequal contest for an exhausting half hour, ___52___ realizing that I could not win my way to the bright area ahead of me.
Then it dawned upon me that I was wasting my strength in unimportant hurry, while paying no attention whatsoever to the landscape ___53___ which I was making the trip. The storm could not last forever and the discomfort was not unendurable. Indeed, there was much to look at which might ___54___ have escaped me. As I gazed about with sharpened ___55___, I saw colours and lines and shapes that would have appeared differently under brilliant light. The rain mists (薄雾) which now ___56___ the wooded hills and the fresh clearness of the different greens were entrancing (迷人的). My annoyance at the rain was gone and my eagerness to ___57___ it disappeared. It had provided me with a new view and helped me understand that the ___58___ of beauty and satisfaction may be found close at hand within the ___59___ of one’s own sensibilities.
It made me think, then and later, about other matters to which this incident was related. It helped me realize that there is no sense in my ___60___ ever to flee from circumstances and conditions which cannot be avoided but which I might bravely ___61___ and frequently mend and often turn to good account. I know that half the battle is won if I can face trouble with courage, __62__ with spirit, and triumph with humility. It has become ever clearer to me that danger is far from disaster, that defeat may be the forerunner of final ___63___, and that, in the last analysis, all achievement is dangerously weak ___64___ based on enduring principles of moral conduct.

An old woman had two large pots, one on each end of a pole. She carried the pole with the pots across her neck.
One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full pot of water. At the end of the long walk from the well to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half-full.
For two years this happened daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection.
One day, the cracked pot spoke to the woman by the well: “I am ashamed of myself because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.”
The old woman smiled: “Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I have always known about your crack, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path. And every day while we walk back, you water them.”

People have been talking about health for a long time because people know the importance of it. People's understanding of health also becomes deeper with the progress in scientific research. Recently the term "health" has come to have a wider meaning than it used to. It no longer means just the absence of illness. Today, health means the well-being of your body, your mind and your relationship with other people. This new concept of health is closely related to another term-quality of life. Quality of life is the degree of overall satisfaction that a person gets from life.
Why has the emphasis of health shifted from the absence of disease to a broader focus on the quality of a person's life? One reason for this has to do with the length and conditions of life that people can now expect. Medical advances have made it possible for people today to live longer, healthier lives. Imagine for a moment that you were born in the year 1900. You could have expected on average to live until about the age of 47. In contrast, if you were born in the year 1999, you could expect to live to the age of 75.

We bought a second-hand house, and that afternoon I was in the workshop of the gqrage,I noticed a part of a carpet sticking out of the ceiling of an attic(阁楼)that was strange, I found a ladder and headed up.
I climbed into the attic, As my eyes adjusted to the dark , I saw a metal container, I opened the lid and was shocked by  what I saw: several rolls of money tied up in orange string , I’ve found , like $800, Awesome!
But there was more than one box of money , I found another seven boxes full to the top, plus two big black bags full of cash, I won’t lie , My first thought was that this was a bleesing from God –the means to fix up this old house; or just to uxe to make life easier for our rwo young sons , who sere seven and four ,But I knew that the right thing was to return the money to the previous owners . So I called them and asked them to come.
They were shocked, of course, not only about the money but that I was returning it , They had recently got the house from their dad and said it must have been their dad who, had hidden the money, What made him do it? I thought about the hundreds of times he had bone to his shop, cut off a length of orange string ,and bound up a roll of money , I like to think he did it for his chileren .
There were balls of that ouange stuing still hanging on the wall of the workshop when we moved in ,I used them to tie up Christmas presents last year, for my kids , I hope it reminded them of the gift greater than money that my wife and I gave them by returning the money ,We did the right thing ,and our children will never forget that.
