题目内容

I ________ him to give up smoking, but I failed.

  1. A.
    preferred
  2. B.
    hoped
  3. C.
    advised
  4. D.
    suggested
C
以上供选的四个选项中,能够用于“v.+sb.to do sth.”这一结构的只有A、C两项。但从意义上可以看出“我让他放弃抽烟”的动作应为“劝说”,而不是“主观(愿意)喜欢”,故C为最佳选项。在英语中,能说hope to do sth.不能说hope sb.to do sth.,但能说wish sb.to do sth.;suggest的正确搭目己应为suggest(sb.)doing sth.。此外还应注意:advise sb.to do sth.意为“劝说(建议)某人做某事”,但不一定成功,相当于try to persuade sb.to do sth.,advise后面还可接v.-ing形式。
