【题目】Some people are lucky enough to be born with a good sense of direction and even if they have only visited a place once, they will be able to find it again years later.

I am one of those unfortunate people who have poor sense of direction and I may have visited a place time after time but I still get lost on my way there. When I was young I was so shy that I never dared ask complete strangers the way and so I used to wander round in circles and hope that by some chance I would get to the spot I was heading for.

I am no longer too shy to ask people for direction, but I often receive replies that puzzle me. Often people do not like to admit that they didn’t know their hometown and will insist on telling you the way, even if they do not know it; others, who are anxious to prove that they know their hometown very well, will give you a long list of directions which you can not possibly hope to remember, and still others do not seem to be able to tell between their left and their right and you find in the end that you are going in the opposite direction to that in which you should be going.

If anyone ever asks me the way to somewhere, I always tell them I am a stranger to the town in order to avoid giving them wrong direction but even this can have embarrassing results.

Once I was on my way to work when I was stopped by a man who asked me if I would direct him the way to the Sunlight Building. I gave my usual reply, but I had not walked on a few steps when I realized that he had asked for directions to my office building. However, at this point, I decide it was too late to turn back and search for him out of the crowd behind me as I was going to meet with someone at the office and I did not want to keep him waiting.

Imagine my embarrassment when my secretary showed in the very man who had asked for directions of my office and his astonishment when he recognized me as the person he had asked.

【1】What is the writer going to do when someone asks him for direction?

A. He will direct the right way to the person willingly.

B. He will reply to it by the means of being a stranger to the town.

C. He will give the very person long list of direction.

D. He is going to show the man an opposite direction.

【2】Why did the writer consider himself to be an unlucky dog?

A. Because of his poor sense of direction.

B. Because he always forget the way to home.

C. Because he did not have any friend.

D. Because he used to be shy and dared not ask others the way.

【3】How did the visitor feel when he was showed into the very room?

A. He felt strange.B. He felt embarrassed.

C. He felt very sad.D. He felt astonished.

【题目】下面文章中有5个段落需要添加首句(1~5)。请从以下选项(ABCDEF)中选出符合各段落的首句。选项中有一项是多余选项。

A. Be a realistic optimist.

B. Be clear about your goals and actions.

C. Know exactly how far you have left to go.

D. Catch the moment to act on your goals.

E. Focus on what you will do, not what you won’t do.

F. Focus on getting better, rather than being good.

Decades of research on achievement suggests that successful people reach their goals not simply because of who they are, but more often because of what they do. Here are several things successful people do unlike we ordinary people.

【1 When you set yourself a goal, try to be as clear as possible. “Lose 5 pounds” is a better goal than “lose some weight”, because it gives you a clear idea of what success looks like. Knowing exactly what you want to achieve keeps you positive until you get there. Also, think about the actions that need to be taken to reach your goal.

2 Given how busy most of us are, it’s not surprising that we miss opportunities to act on a goal just because we fail to notice them. To catch the moment, decide when and where to take your each action at first. Studies show that this kind of planning will help you grasp the opportunity when it appears, increasing your chances of success by about 300%.

3 Achieving any goal also requires honesty and regular watch of your progress if not by others, then by you yourself. If you don’t know how well you are doing, you can’t change your behavior or your plans if necessary. Check your progress frequently weekly, or even daily, depending on the goal.

4 When you are setting a goal, you should have lots of positive thinking about how likely you are to achieve it. Believing that you are able to succeed also helps you keep you positive all the time. But whatever you do, don’t underestimate(低估) how difficult it will be to reach your goal. Most goals worth achieving require time, planning, effort, and persistence (坚持).

5 Many of us believe that our intelligence, our personality, and our physical aptitudes are fixed that no matter what we do, we won’t improve. Fortunately, decades of research suggest the fact that you can change will allow you to make better choices, and reach your fullest potential. People whose goals are about getting better, rather than being good can appreciate the journey as much as the destination.

【题目】Energy independence. It has a nice ring to it. Doesn’t it? If you think so, you’re not alone, because energy independence has been the dream of American president for decades, and never more so than in the past few years, when the most recent oil price shock has been partly responsible for kicking off the great recession.

“Energy independence” and its rhetorical (修辞的) companion “energy security” are, however, slippery concepts that are rarely though through. What is it we want independence from, exactly?

Most people would probably say that they want to be independent from imported oil. But there are reasons that we buy all that oil from elsewhere.

The first reason is that we need it to keep our economy running. Yes, there is a trickle(涓涓细流)of biofuel available, and more may become available, but most biofuels cause economic waste and environmental destruction.

Second, Americans have basically decided that they don’t really want to produce all their own oil. They value the environmental quality they preserve over their oil imports from abroad. Vast areas of the United States are off-limits(禁止) to oil exploration and production in the name of environmental protection. To what extent are Americans really willing to endure the environmental impacts of domestic energy production in order to cut back imports?

Third, there are benefits to trade. It allows for economic efficiency, and when we buy things from places that have lower production costs than we do, we benefit. And although you don’t read about this much, the United States is also a large exporter of oil products, selling about 2 million barrels of petroleum products per day to about 90 countries.

There is no question that the United States imports a great deal of energy and, in fact, relies on that steady flow to maintain its economy. When that flow is interrupted, we feel the pain in short supplies and higher prices, At the same time, we derive(得到,获得) massive economic benefits when we buy the most affordable energy on the world market and when we engage in energy trade around the world.

【1】What does the author say about energy independence for America?

A. It sounds very attractive.

C. It will bring oil prices down.

B. It ensures national security.

D. It has long been everyone’s dream.

【2】Why does America rely heavily on oil imports?

A. It wants to expand its storage of crude oil.

B. Its own oil reserves are quickly running out.

C. It wants to keep its own environment intact.

D. Its own oil production falls short of demand.

【3】What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?

A. To arouse Americans’ awareness of the energy crisis.

B. To stress the importance of energy conservation.

C. To explain the increase of international oil trade.

D. To justify(证明… 有理的) America’s dependence on oil imports.
