Some years ago, I was called to replace a teacher who was ill.I prepared some warm-up activities and went to the 1 school. It was a small class. One of the students called my 2 in a special way with her interest in learning. When it was time to 3 the listening skills, I played a CD, and asked some to answer questions. They seemed to be a bit 4 , and said in low voices to one another“English is so difficult…”I 5 that as a great moment to inspire(鼓舞)them to learn.Remembering the motto“What we 6 doing becomes easier, as our abilities increase”, I 7 them to listen carefully to that particular track.
I played it four more times, and 8 one of them shouted:“Now I understand it clearly!”Another said:“You had 9 the track, I thought! It is so 10 to follow!”I can't describe how I felt.I asked them to do the same with each track of the CD as their 11 .They were all excited and promised to do it later.
After 12 the material, I was leaving the 13 when I noticed the girl who I referred to 14 in her chair.I called her by name. When she turned around, I was surprised:She was 15 by herself!
“What's happened?”I asked.“Something 16 that I said?”She replied:“Yes, something you said made me weep. 17 nothing wrong with that. For the first time someone made me believe that I 18 speak English!”That was amazing!I thanked her for those moving words, and got downstairs, trying to hold the 19 …Every time I feel tired of my job, inspiring stories like that remind me that 20 is really, really worthwhile…
