9.After three days'talks,I began to wonder if they had reached any agreement or they needed to set another date for a _____ one.( )
A.deeperB.slowerC.furtherD.higher

分析 经过三天的对话后,我开始考虑他们是否达成协议或者他们还需要重新定日子进行进一步的讨论.

解答 答案|:C
A:deeper更深的;B:slower更慢的;C:further更进一步的;D:higher更高的 根据题干"after three day's talks""they needed to set another date for a…one"可推断出经过三天的对话,仍然不知道他们之间是否达成协议,是否需要进行新一轮的讨论,此处的讨论应是在上一次讨论基础上进行的,因此应为"进一步的讨论",其他三个选项不符合语境.故正确选项为C.

17.I'm a 20-year-old boy,and the following is my story.
A month after I graduated from high school in August,2007,I was coming home from swim practice in the training centre of the city and was involved in a car accident.I was so seriously injured that I was in a coma for more than two months at Prince Georges Hospital.
I suffered a lot from the experience of dying eight times during my coma and I couldn't open my mouth to talk or to communicate when I eventually came around. At that time,it seemed that walking was never going to happen again due to all the extreme injuries.Just like my body,my dreams were completely destroyed. But I was not going to let my injuries stop me from realizing my dreams.
After receiving a total of 15 operations and 36 blood transfusions,I had to make every great effort to learn to talk, eat, walk, shower, and live on my own again. When I was out Of hospital,I still had to go to outpatient therapy in Waldorf,Maryland. After I spent a few months in a wheelchair,I took baby steps to walk on my own.It was a miracle that I was able to walk again, but I still wanted to prove that I could not only walk, but also run. When it came true,I wanted to get back into the pool again. After having a few lung tests,I was able to go in the pool a little bit each week. After a few months of Swim training,I began my freshman year at St.Mary's College of Maryland and then became a proud member of the swim team.
By telling my story,I want to make a positive influence on the world.I am just trying to live each day to the fullest and inspire other people never to give up their dreams no matter how bad a situation is to them.I remember when I was still in my hospital bed,I would have my mom and dad push me round in my wheelchair to the other rooms to see the other patients and chat with them and their family members.I wanted to let them know that everything was going to be okay.Somehow, things would work out for the best.

"I say!"said Ogilvy;"help keep these idiots back.We don't know what's in the puzzling thing,you know!"
The end of the cylinder(圆柱体) was being screwed out from within.I turned,and as I did so the screw(螺丝钉) must have come out,for the lid of the cylinder fell upon the ground with a ringing shock.For a moment that circular cavity seemed perfectly black.I had the sunset in my eyes.
I think everyone expected to see a man emerge-possibly something a little unlike us earthly men,but in all essentials a man.But,looking,I presently saw something exciting within the shadow:clumsy movements,one above another,and then two disc-like eyes.Then something resembling a grey snake,about the thickness of a walking stick,climbed up out of the twisting middle,and moved in the air towards me-and then another.
A sudden chill came over me.I stood frightened and staring.A big gray rounded bulk,the size,perhaps,of a bear,was rising slowly and painfully out of the cylinder.As it bulged up and caught the light,it looked like wet leather.
Anyone who has never seen a living Martian can scarcely imagine the strange horror of its appearance.The peculiar V-shaped mouth with its pointed upper lip,the absence of brow ridges,the Gorgon groups of tentacles(触手),the unstable breathing of the lungs in a strange atmosphere,the evident heaviness and painfulness of movement due to the greater gravitational energy of the earth-above all,the extraordinary intensity of the huge eyes,which was unforgettable-were at once vital,intense,inhuman,and monstrous.There was something fungoid in the oily brown skin,something in the clumsy deliberation of the tedious movements unspeakably nasty.Even at this first encounter,this first glimpse,I was overcome with disgust and dread.
