I like English. Only when you want to do something, can you do it well. Eight years ago,I was taken into the English world. It was fresh to me then. I feel lucky because I met with a respectable teacher. Her teaching style was unique and we were active and excited in classes. So I can say, when I first got touch with English,it interested me very much.

After I entered the university,I came to realize its special importance. My class provided me with a good atmosphere of studying. For some students,to remember the new words is the biggest barrier, especially now the words are more difficult than before. Actually, words come along with sentences, that is,to understand the words according to its context. Of course,it is necessary that you review it now and then;otherwise you will forget them easily. When reading,I am used to underlining some special and important phrases or write them down on the notebook so that I can find them when I review. If you want to master English better than others, you must pay more than others, you must set aside more time. Don't be lazy.

Christopher's Smile was set up in 2008 by Karen & Kevin Capel whose only son Christopher died of cancer at a young age. They hope their charity will help pay for more research into children's cancers. Since then, the charity has raised a lot of money and gotten more and more volunteers. Every year, thousands of people take part in different activities such as charity walk or run to show their support for Christopher's Smile.

The students of Grade 6 at LVS Ascot Junior School also wanted to do something for the sick children. They organized the event “Pyjama Day” to support Christopher's Smile. “We wanted to raise money for our charity in a way that the whole school could join in it'so each pupil paid £l to wear his or her pyjamas to school on ‘Pyjama Day”” said the young organizers.    As children get older, what they are able to contribute around the house will increase. For every new duty you introduce,or even for small favors, you might find your child asking ,“How much will you give me?” You shouldn’t have to negotiate “wages” for responsibilities (责任) that are shared or for things that just need doing.

By paying children for chores with an allowance, you may be teaching your kids the value of work, but you’ll also be sending the message that work isn’t worth doing unless he/she is getting paid for it. Suppose you’re giving your son an allowance for mowing the lawn, but then your neighbor offers him slightly more for mowing his lawn. Does that mean your son should stop mowing your family's lawn and mow the neighbor's instead?

As your children grow and mature, they may find other avenues to earn money for themselves— babysitting after school, even birthday money. The fact that they may have outside sources of money should not excuse them from having to do their basic household duties. By keeping chores and allowances separate, parents can avoid this conflict (冲突) altogether.

You have probably met some people you hate in your life. The same thing will happen when you get a job.

How do you deal with people you don't like? Maybe you can avoid them. But you might not be able to do that at work. There probably will be times you have to work with someone you don't really like. You need to try hard to get along with him. What should you do?

If you have good communication skills, that will help. Try to be a good listener. This will help you understand someone else's point of view. When you know how someone feels about something,it's easier to get along with him.

Communication is also talking. You should always give your opinion when you’re asked. But try to do it in a way that won’t hurt anyone's feelings.

Read about Bill and Ted who are working together to paint two rooms:

“We’ll do all the trim (修剪) work first ,” Bill said. “I hate doing the trim; it's so annoying. I want to get it over and done with.99

“That's the most foolish idea I've ever heard!” Ted said. “We’ll do the trim last. Help me put these cloths down over the rug (地毯) . ”

Bill and Ted don't show much respect for each other. They don't want to listen. Each one thinks his way is the only way to do the job. This scene is sure to end in a conflict. Both Bill and Ted could have different ways to solve the problem.

                                   Muzak

The next time you go into a bank,a store,or a supermarket, stop and listen. What do you hear? 1 It's similar to the music you listen to,but it's not exactly the same. That's because this music was especially designed to relax you,or to give you extra energy. Sometimes you dont even realise the music is playing, but you react to the music anyway.

Quiet background music used to be called “ elevator (电梯) music” because we often heard it in elevators. But lately we hear it in more and more places, and it has a new name “Muzak”. About one-third of the people in America listen to “Muzak” every da. The music plays for 15 minutes at a time, with short pauses in between. It is always more lively between ten and eleven in the morning, and between three and four in the afternoon, when people are more tired. 2

If you listen to Muzak carefully, you will probably recognise the names of many of the songs. Some musicians or songwriters don5t want their songs to be used as Muzak, but others are happy when their songs are chosen. Why? 3

Music is often played in public places because it is designed to make people feel less lonely when they are in an airport or a hotel. It has been proved that Muzak does what it is designed to do. Tired office workers suddenly have more energy when they hear the pleasant sound of Muzak in the background. 4 Supermarket shoppers buy 38 percent more groceries.

5 They say it's boring to hear the same songs all the time. But other people enjoy hearing Muzak in public places. They say it helps them relax and feel calm. One way or another,Muzak affects everyone. Some farmers even say their cows give more milk when they hear Muzak!

   E. Muzak tends to help people understand music better.
