When your family travels or is away from its usual eating and sleeping routines, probably someone will get sick. It can take time to adapt to the food, water and air in a new environment, and kids can be especially __________________________ travel-related problems, including motion sickness, diarrhea(腹泻),and infections(传染病).

Motion sickness is caused by a disagreement between the eyes and ears: the inner ears notice movement. But the eyes, focused within a car or other vehicles, do not. These different signals coming into the brain cause a lot of problems such as sickness, dizziness, paleness, and cold sweats. Motion sickness often happens on ships and boats, but it can also affect kids when they travel in planes, buses, and cars. Here are some ways to help kids fight motion sickness:

★Before you leave, have your child eat a light meal, as motion sickness seems worse on an empty stomach. Provide foods that are easily digested and avoid fatty foods.

★Try to avoid eating during short trips. For longer trips, have a small amount of drinks and eat light, small meals and snacks.

★If your child is feeling sick, provide some mild foods, like crackers(超薄饼干).

★Encourage kids to look outside the car, rather than inside. They should focus on still objects---not moving ones---or a far point.

★Keep the window open a little to allow fresh air in.

★Use a headrest to reduce head movement.

★Make frequent stops, if your child complains of feeling sick and it’s safe to stop, a short walk for some fresh air might help.

Here is how your health risks increase at different BMIs(体重指数) if your waist circumference(腰围) is higher than 40 inches(102 cm) in men and 35 inches (88 cm) in women:

·If your BMI is in the 18.5 to 24.9 range, or “Normal”, then a larger waist that is near or greater than 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women can indicate that you are at “increased” risk.

·If your BMI is in the 25 to 29.9 range, or “Overweight”, then a larger waist (less than or equal to 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women) can indicate that you are at “increased” risk. Above these sizes, the risk is considered “high”.

·If your BMI is in the 30 to 34.9 range, or “Obese(肥胖症)I”, then a larger waist (less than or equal to 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women) can indicate that you are at “high” risk. Above these sizes, the risk is considered “very high.”

·If your BMI is in the 35 to 39.9 range, or “Obese II”, then a larger waist (less than or equal to 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women) can indicate that you are at “very high” risk. Above these sizes, the risk is still considered “very high”.

·If your BMI is or in the 40 + range, or “Obese III”, then a larger waist (less than or equal to 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women) can indicate that you are at “extremely high” risk. Above these sizes, the risk is still considered “extremely high”.

Are you a problem shopper? The answer is “Yes”, if you or someone else thinks that you sometimes get carried away with shopping. In other words, do you or does someone else think you are occupied in extreme shopping? If people have regrets later about their shopping, or have an “out-of-control” feeling about the quantities of what they buy or the amount of credit they use, they may be considered to be problem shoppers.

Extreme shopping can lead to a more serious problem –addictive shopping. Addictive shoppers feel driven by the desire to shop and spend money. They experience great tension which drives them to shop and spend money and they feel a “rush” during the time they are occupied with the shopping activity.

Extreme or addictive shopping may result from long-time unpleasant feelings, of which anxiety, pain and shame are common ones. When we feel bad inside, we often do something to make ourselves feel better. In this case, we often go shopping.

A few people shop to relieve their boredom or emptiness. For some people, the motivation is a desire for status, power, beauty or success. Some love to shop as it makes them feel valued in the eyes of the shop assistants. Others shop simply because it makes them forget, at least temporarily, tension, fear or unhappiness in their life.

Besides, shopping malls are designed to encourage continual shopping. For instance, there are some malls where you can’t see clocks displaying the time because they don’t want you to become too aware of the time you spend there. What’s more, food courts, coffee shops and restrooms are provided, so you don’t have to leave the mall because of your physical needs.

Therefore, once you become aware of how market forces work, you will certainly come to control your shopping behavior. For example, how much time you will spend and what areas you will visit can be decided before you enter the mall. Keep a written account of what items you will buy and how much money you will spend. Make a plan for what you are going to buy before you feel the urge to shop and then stick to it. That is vital for gaining self-control.

55.Which of the following people may not be problem shoppers?

A.Those who cannot control the amount of credit they use.

B.Those who just walk around the shopping malls.

C.Those who are occupied in too much shopping.

D.Those who feel sorry for their shopping.

56.According to the passage, what may not result in addictive shopping?

A.The awareness of how market forces work.

B.The desire for status, power, beauty or success.

C.Boredom, emptiness, tension, fear or unhappiness in people’s life.

D.Long-time bad feelings of anxiety, pain and shame.

57.How can we control our shopping behavior according to the passage?

A.Never going to the shopping malls because there are many tricks.

B.Applying for a credit card before we go shopping.

C.Making the shopping time as short as possible.

D.Making a shopping list before we go shopping.

58.The author writes this passage to_______________.     .

A.inform the shopping malls how to attract more shoppers

B.scold the problem shoppers

C.provide solutions for the problem shoppers.

D.tell a shopping story

Maybe you are an average student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here’s how:

1. Plan your time carefully. When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. then decide a good, regular time for studying. Don’t forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.

2. Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.

3. Make good use of your time in class. Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say. Really listening in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.

4. Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes. Review the important points that your teacher mentioned in class. If you know what your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.

5. Develop a good attitude about tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be overly worried.

There are other methods that might help you with your studying. You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.
