We have just climbed out of a spaceship onto the surface of the moon. Behind us is the ship, half in the sunlight and half in the deep shadow. A few miles ahead is a wall of mountains against the black sky. And there, as though resting on the mountains, is a great ball of light, beautifully coloured in blue and brown with a patch of dazzling white at the top. It is our own far-away world----the earth.
We take step and rise like prize jumpers-up, float and down again. Hopping (or jumping ) carefully, we explore the valleys, the sloping crater(火山口) walls, the shadowy crater floors.
Not a sound can be heard----there is no air to carry sound. No wind, there are no smells. There are no plants or animals. There is nothing but rock and dust, blinding sunlight and cold black shadows.

Millions of volunteers (志愿者)joined in a long chain spreading 4 125 miles across the world's richest nation Sunday and burst into songs , reaching the highest
development in the Hands Across America road to raise 
50 million for the nation's homeless and hungry.
The chain began with a 6-year-old homeless girl named Amy in New York's Buttery Park. It spread across 16 states and Washington, D.C. where it crossed the White House to the Queen Mary's port in California. The last people in the line were Bill and Mary Jones and their five small children, who lived in a family shelter (收容所) for the homeless in Venice, California.
The chain was not unbroken some gaps were planned for safety, others opened where there were not enough people to cover the ground.
