Dear editor,

One day last month after I received my salary, I went shopping with my little son. 1 in the crowded store, I had my wallet stolen. And my whole salary was 2 with it.

I was so angry that I almost lost 3 of myself. What 4 I do? We were not very rich. The money was really not a 5 sum 6 my family, it would affect our life greatly. How could I tell my wife?

I felt very sad and even 7 for losing the money when I got back home. To make 8 for my unforgivable mistake, I 9 all my strength to give our house a thorough cleaning and then prepared a wonderful meal and cooked a special dish my wife loved to please her.

When she came home, I 10 a smile to 11 her. She was surprised to see the neat house and delicious meat. We sat 12 the table and began to eat. I told my story 13 . She did not respond. It was as if she had not heard my words.

“I’ve lost my salary,”I murmured to her again.

“I 14 .”She did not shout at me as I bad expected. She did not lose her 15 . 16 I was afraid she was trying hard to 17 her anger.

A moment later, my wife was still silent and seemed to be 18 her favourite dish At last I could not help asking,“I’ve lost the money. Why not shout at me?”

She raised her eyes, looking at me and 19 ,“Oh, on the contrary, I’m thinking about 20 to comfort you. It’s the thief who is to blame.”

One Saturday afternoon, my daughter Alice asked me, “Are all people the same even if they are different in color?”
I thought for a minute, and then I said, “I’ll explain,    36   you can just wait until we make a quick    37   at the grocery store(杂货店). I have something    38   to show you. ”
At the grocery store, we    39   some apples --- red, green and yellow ones. Back home, I told Alice, “It’s time to    40   your question.” I put one apple of each    41   on the table. Then I looked at Alice, who had a    42   look on her face.
“People are like apples. They come in all    43  colors, shapes and sizes. On the    44  , some of the apples may not    45   look as the others. ” As I was talking, Alice was    46   each one carefully.
Then, I took each of the apples and peeled(削皮)them,    47   them back on the table, but    48   a different place.
“Okay, Alice, tell me which is which.”
She said, “I    49   tell. They all look the same now. ” “Take a bite of    50  . See if that helps you    51   which one is which. ”
She took    52  , and then a huge smile came across her face. “People are    53   like apples! They are all different, but once you    54   the outside, they’re pretty much the same on the inside. ”
She totally    55   it. I didn’t need to say or do anything else.

I walked into the grocery store not particularly interested in buying something. The sorrow of   36  my husband of 37 years was still too painful. And this grocery store held so many sweet   37 . Bob often came with me and almost every time he'd   38  to go off and look for something special. I'd always see him walking down the walkway   39  the three yellow roses in his hands. Bob knew I loved yellow roses. With a heart   40  with pain, I came to the meat shelf, I searched for the   41  small steak and remembered how Bob had loved his steak.

Suddenly a woman came beside me. She was in a soft green dress. I   42  as she picked up a large pack of T-bones,   43  them in her basket, hesitated, and then put them back. She saw me watching her and she smiled. "My husband loves T-bones, but   44 , at these prices, I don't know."

"My husband passed away eight days ago," I told her. "Buy him the steaks. And value every   45  you have together."

She smiled and I saw the feeling in her   46  as she placed the package in her basket and   47  away. I turned and pushed my cart forward too. Several minutes later I saw first the green suit and then   48  the pretty lady coming to me. In her arms she carried something. On her face was the   49  smile I had ever seen.

As she came closer, I saw what she held and   50  welled down. "These are for you, " she said and placed three beautiful yellow roses in my arms. She placed a gentle kiss on my cheek, then smiled again. I wanted to tell her what the roses   51 , but still unable to speak. I watched as she walked away as tears clouded my   52 . I looked down at the beautiful roses and found it almost   53 . How did she know?

Suddenly the   54  seemed so clear. I wasn't alone. "Oh, Bob, you haven't   55  me, have you?" I whispered, with tears in my eyes. He was still with me, and she was his angel.
