This summer, I took part in the voluntary work ofthe Beijing Olympic Games in Beijing University where all the Olympic table-tennis matches were held.

Before the Games began, we spent several weeks training for the Olympic services, improving our English both in speaking and listening. We had to get familiar with all the roads, streets and traffic of Beijng. In addition, we were trained to know the cultures of different nations.

During the Games, our work began around 11:00 a. m. and ended about 10:00 p. m. We led people to their seats and answered all their questions. Using English, we introduced Beijing to foreign friends and gave them accurate information. Sometimes we provided the audience with some rules for table-tennis matches.

Through my services for the Olympics, I now know more about our capital city and different cultures of the world. I had lots of practice with many native English speakers. More importantly, I have learned to help and understand different people and learned to be a more unselfish person. This will be the most precious memory in my life.
