Running like the wind, roaring (咆哮) like thunder, tigers have long been feared and respected as a king of the animal world. But last week a report said that there are no more than 30 wild tigers left in south China.

This was the conclusion of a team of scientists from China's State Forestry Administration and the World Nature Fund.

The South China tiger, also known as the Chinese tiger, is native to southern China. In the 1950's, there were over 4000 tigers found in mountain forests in the country. But due to the destruction of their natural habitat and uncontrolled hunting, it has been pushed on to the list of the world's top ten most endangered species.

Sixty?six of the big cats can be found in the cages of a dozen zoos around China. But they are nothing like their wild cousins. They have lost their natural skills such as hunting and killing. If they were set free they could not look after themselves.

“Breeding has damaged the quality of the species”, said Pei Enle, deputy director of the Shanghai Zoo.

To reintroduce the species into the wild, the country started a programme to send five to ten young tigers to South Africa. Four of them have already arrived. Progress has been made as two elder tigers have recovered some of their instincts(本能) and can hunt wild animals by themselves at the African base.

“South Africans are very experienced in reintroducing big animals to the wild. The country has very good natural conditions for the tigers to learn in”, said Lu Jun, office director of the National Wildlife Research and Development Center.“We tried in Fujian Province, but it was not successful as there was not a complete eco?chain(生物链) and there was a lack of space.”

The tigers should return to China in 2007 when the reservations in Fujian are ready.

C. Because there is no space for it.

D. Because uncontrolled hunting has destroyed its natural living conditions.

2.How is the programme of sending several tigers to South Africa getting on?

A. Its effect still remains to be seen.

B. Two tigers can already compete with their wild cousins.

C. Some of the tigers are already on the road to recovering their natural skills.

D. The tigers should be able to recover their instincts completely by 2007.

A. they are no longer feared by other wild animals

B. they don't know how to hunt or kill

C. a complete change has resulted in the species because of breeding

D. to reintroduce them into the wild has become an urgent task

4.What is the purpose of sending young tigers to South Africa?

A. To help the tigers recover their ability to live in the wild.

B. To provide them with a better environment.

C. To get the tigers to go on a tour.

D. To find a complete eco?chain for them.

5.Which one is NOT the reason for South Africa being chosen as the training place?

A. Because the tigers can hunt wild animals by themselves at the African base.

B. Because South Africans are skilled at dealing with the tigers.

C. Because there is a complete eco?chain and enough space there.

D. Because the country has good natural conditions for the tigers to learn in.

Recently I came in contact with the true meaning of love. That would have been, Kane, a boy. Kane was the two-year-old son of Jolene, my new neighbor.

At a glance Kane was a sight. He’d been born with hard sticks for legs. And on that morning I witnessed the effect that Kane’s physical shortcomings had on his family. But I also witnessed much more than that.

I saw an extraordinary family that embraced this special child. A family that wouldn’t allow Kane to know he was different. Jolene had constructed a small cart just a few inches off the floor for his son to get around. Using his hands to move about, Kane moved the cart to “go to” any place just as everyone else was able to do. Kane worked that little cart like a master. Kane was a vital focus of the entire family. He was more than just a member of the family; he was the soul. This child was the driver, the motivator, and the founder of much of the interaction.

Much later in my life, I came to realize that God had sent this child to help some of us who just weren’t getting what love was all about. Even with my limited capacity for understanding at the time that Kane was a highly developed spirit with great wisdom.

Kane demanded attention, but not because of his mobility challenges or other apparent shortcomings. In his mind, he had no challenges or shortcomings. The truth is that he received attention because he was alive and real and had so much to offer.

Kane was and still is a lot of warm and powerful energy sent to us all, so we might learn that love surpasses all things. Kane, a fragile yet lovely baby, was here to teach us all an important lesson. And at the age of two he did just that.

1.How did the author think of Kane’s family members?

A. They were strange because they locked Kane at home.

B. It was respectable for them to start their own business.

C. It was ridiculous for them to make a cart for Kane.

D. They were greatly brave to face all the difficulties.

2.How did Kane “get to” everywhere he wanted to go?

A. By moving his cart with his own hands.

B. By asking his father to lead him ahead with a stick.

C. By asking his grandparents to push hin everywhere.

D. His parents specially employed a babysitter for him.

3.According to the author, God made Kane with disability to help _______.

A. his parents get to know their responsibility

B. his family members know the importance of union

C. people especially the healthy realize what love really means

D. people especially the disabled realize their inner power

4.Kane needed attention because he wanted to show ________.

A. he can challenge his difficulty in moving

B. he had challenges or shortcomings in his life

C. he himself needed to be looked after by others

D. he had the power to prove he was capable too

5.What can we learn from Kane’s story?

A. Love me, love my dog.

B. Love is above all things.

C. Many hands make light work.

D. Pure gold fears no fire.

Most of the guests who come on our trips have never been to Egypt before .We want to make everyone comfortable and at ease, but we do always get the same questions in advance of trip. So here I will give you some travel tips.

What should I wear?

If you’re lucky enough to visit Egypt between November and February, pack a sweater. You’ll need it——the desert gets rather cold at night. During the day, the temperature will be agreeable and comfortable. Any other time, pack as if you’re going to Phoenix of Vegas in August. For the ladies, bathing suits are normal if there’s a pool where you are going, but leave the string bikini at home –it is a Muslim country, after all. Last, if you are planning on visiting any mosques(清真寺)or certain parts of upper Egypt, ladies will need to plan on bringing something that comes at least to the elbow(肘部), and no shorts for men or women in those areas.

What special things do I need to pack?

One of my favorite things in the world to bring to Egypt is an Evian Mister, a sprayer with a fine mist of Evian water. You may be able to find it in your local drug store. Spray a little on your face or head , and your body temperature will feel like it’s dropped 10 or 15 degrees. Other items include your camera, sun block and extra batteries.

How do I communicate with home?

Internet cafes are plentiful everywhere, especially in Cairo, Luxor, and Alexandria. If you have international calling on you phone, you should be able to use it-AT&T and Sprint both work internationally for sure, but make sure you have the international coverage. A satellite phone is best if you are certain to need coverage in the middle of the country, like while sailing up the Nile , but for most people these days a cell phone is fine.

What medical preparation do I need?

In a word: none! The one thing you may come down with in Egypt is politely called “Pharoah ’s Revenge. ” The thing that gets rid of pharoah’s Revenge is a regionally produced medicine, and is available at every drugstore for $1 a box . DON’T drink local water. DO drink bottled water, avoid the skins of fresh vegetables, and you’ll be fine.

1. What clothing is proper for ladies visiting a mosque?

A. String bikinis B. Bathing suits

C. Long-sleeve clothesD. Shorts.

2.What’s the use of an Evian Mister?

A. To relieve your thirst.B. To cool yourself down.

C. To prevent sunburns.D. To drive away insects.

3.What information is provided about distance communication?

A. A cell phone is enough for most people.

B. AT&T and Sprint offer free service in Egypt.

C. A satellite phone doesn’t work in Mid-Egypt.

D. Internet cafes are only available in big cities.

4.What does “Pharoah ‘s Revenge” probably refer to in the last paragraph?

A. A battle B. A tale

C. A diseaseD. A plant

5.The purpose of this passage is to .

A. describe a journey to Egypt to the tourists

B. offer some practical tips on traveling in Egypt

C. warn readers of the awful insects in Egypt

D. appeal to more possible tourists to the journey
