⑴B 根据上文提到When it comes to benefits of volunteering, a lot of people think it's all about the warm feelings after helping someone.(当谈起志愿者的好处时,很多人认为做志愿者的好处就是帮助别人过后的那种说不出来的温暖的感觉),故B项“事实上,这远不是唯一的一个好处而已”符合语境。

⑵F 根据上文提到volunteering can really be almost anything.再根据空格下句through overcoming these you learn and start to master completely new skills.可知此句的意思是“你将面对很多挑战”。故选F。

⑶C 根据上句experience often seems to be a prerequisite (必备条件) for some jobs.(经验似乎是一些工作的必备条件);再根据空格下句There's many a journalist that gets his or her start through volunteering for a college or university paper(很多记者都是通过为大学做志愿者写文章而开始的);可知此处的意思是Volunteering can actually help you get the experience you need.(志愿工作实际上能让你拥有工作经验,帮你得到工作的敲门砖),故选C。

⑷D 根据上句One of my close friends has completely transformed since she started working for disabled kids.(我有一位非常亲密的朋友,她在开始为残疾人孩子工作后,完全变成了另外一个人。)再根据空格下句It allows you to see the world and other people from a whole different point of view(它允许你以一个完全不同的视角去看世界和其他人。)可知此处要表达的意思是Volunteering helps you look outside yourself and your problems.(志愿工作能帮你从自己和自己的问题中跳出来)。故选D。

⑸G 根据上文提到One of the great things for volunteering is that you meet a wide variety of people.(志愿服务的一大好处是,你会接触到很多人。)再根据空格下句Sometimes it's very convenient to have a broad network.(有时有广泛的人脉网络是非常方便的。)可知此处要表达的意思是You're getting to know people involved in many different walks in life that you wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet otherwise.(你会认识各行各业的人,要是不参加志愿服务你根本就没有机遇和这些人相逢。)故选G。

We do not know when man first began to use salt, but we do know that it has been used in many different ways throughout history. Historical evidence shows, for example, that people who lived over 3,000 years ago ate salted fish. Thousands of years ago in Egypt, salt was used to preserve (保存) the dead.
Stealing salt was considered a major crime (罪行) during some periods of history. In the eighteenth century, for example, if a person was caught stealing salt, he could be put in prison and his ears could be cut off.
In the Roman Empire, one of the most important roads was the one that carried salt from the salt mines to Rome. Guards were stationed(安置) along the route to protect against salt thieves, and they received their pay in salt, thus bringing the English word, salary. Any guard who fell asleep while on duty was thought to be “not worth his salt”, and as a result he would get a little less salt on his next payday. The expression, “not worth his salt”, is still used today in English.
In the modern world salt has many uses beyond the dining table. It is used in making glass and airplane parts, in the growing of crops, and in the killing of weeds (杂草). It is also used to make water soft, to melt (融化) ice on roads and highways, to make soap, and to fix colors in cloth.
Salt can be got in various ways besides being taken from mines underground. Salt water from the ocean, salt water lakes or small seas can be used to make salt. Yet, no matter where it comes from, salt will continue to play an important role in the lives of people everywhere.

In the spring of my career, I found myself questioning the choice of my life's work. The students did not appear to be motivated; the paperwork was overwhelming (巨大的) and the constant changes of educational direction were discouraging. But I just could not bring myself to do anything else. “Next year,” I would say, “next year I will switch jobs, make more money and have far less stress.” Next year just never came. I am now in my forties. And while I am no longer in the classroom or at the schoolhouse, I remain an educator. It finally dawns on me that there is no other profession that will let me change children's minds and have an impact on their future. For every student that finally “got it”, for every new teacher that said, “You inspired me to stay,” I get the raise that has never quite made it to my paycheck.
I was on a plane recently and the flight attendant asked my name. When I told him, he said, “I knew that was you! You taught at my elementary school. You made me take my cap off in the building and told me I was handsome.” He then paused and said, “I think I kept my hat on until you saw me, just so I could get that compliment (赞美). Thank you for making me feel special.”
We have now entered an age where nothing is private and secrets are hard to keep. Your “friends” are counted by simply clicking a button. Face-to-face interactions are seen by many as unnecessary and time-consuming. Of course, we can do anything online, including teaching and learning. But I guess I am just old school. I want to look into your eyes when the answer finally dawns on you.
