题目内容

In our society, we must communicate with people. A great deal of communicating is performed on a person-to-person  36  by the simple means of speech. If we travel in buses, or buy things in shops, we are likely to have conversations  37  we give information or opinions, and sometimes have our views _38  by other members of society.

Face-to-face contact is by no means the  39  form of communication and during the last two centuries the  40  of mass communication has become one of the major factors of contemporary society. Two things,  41  others, have caused the rapid growth of the communication  42 .  Firstly, inventiveness has led to  43  in printing, photography, radio and so on. Secondly, speed has revolutionized (变革) the transmission(传输) and  44  of communications so that local news often takes a back  45  to national news.

No longer is the  46  of information limited to a privileged (有特权的) minority. Forty years ago people used to  47  into the cinema, but now far more people sit at home and turn on the TV to watch a programme channeled into millions of homes. Communication is no longer merely concerned  48_  the transmission of information. The modern communication industry influences the way people live in society and  49  their horizons by allowing  50  to information, education and entertainment. The printing, broadcasting and advertising industries are all  51  with informing, educating and entertaining.

_52  a great deal of the material communicated by the mass media is very  53  to the individual and to the society of which he is a part, the vast modern network of communications is  54  to abuse. However, the mass media are with us for  55 , for worse, and there is no turning back.

Before discussing different kinds of emotions, let us briefly talk about how researchers   1 bodily processes, actions and behavior, and how this relates to what we do in our daily lives when we observe emotions in  2  .
Bodily processes can be directly measured by   3  of a polygraph. (测谎器)When a polygraph is skillfully used to   4  how we react bodily with what we are   5 , it is called a "lie detector". Bodily processes can also be measured  6 . This is what we do when we observe someone blushing (脸红). However, we are not always  7  of what bodily processes respond to.
Measuring action   8  behavior is the other way researchers assess the emotions.    9 , one measure of fear of snakes is how  10 a person will go to the snake. Another procedure is to have a person  11  how afraid he is, or how he feels, in this way, researchers have 12  the so-called "fear thermometer" to assess a person’s fear.  13  our everyday living, we do very much the same thing. Only not too   14 . We react to what a person does, what he says, 15  he says it, and how he looks. Is he smiling? Is his voice trembling? We put all this  16  together to infer what a person is feeling.
17 , we do not always act as we feel. Sometimes we do things that we don’t feel like doing.  18  we say we feel one way and then we act another. Actors, for example, successfully learn to "make believe" emotions, or learn to   19  them. Thus we   20  always tell what a person is feeling by what he says or by what he does.

My husband and I insisted that our children were old enough to clean their rooms and make their beds. But they thought   1 . My complaints, even self-justified(自有道理)  2 , were always landing on   3  ears. Very often a whole hour’s scolding would end with their   4  into tears. I felt very frustrated. I realized I needed to   5  my method of “mothering”.
One day when they were at school, I spent some time tidying their rooms. On their desks, in plain   6 , I left the cards: “Dear Bill(the other card was   7  to Sarah), your room was messy this morning and I’m sure you like it clean. Love, the Room Fairy.”   8  arriving back, the children were   9  excited to receive the little note from the Room Fairy. The next day, their rooms were fairly tidy. Sure enough, there was another note from the Room Fairy   10  for them, thanking them for their nice “gift” of a clean room and   11  asking them to play a certain violin   12 . Each day, thank-you notes would be written differently to keep the ideas   13
Sometimes the Room Fairy would propose a little   14 : “If you can finish your homework and go over your lessons before dinner, I’d like to watch a particular television program with you tonight.” Sometimes some colored markers or other little items would be left in   15  of well-done jobs the day  16 .
17  I can’t remember how long “the Room Fairy” continued leaving her love notes. When they were age appropriate, we used various versions of Post-Its (贴条). The bathroom mirror became the  18  centre of our home. Appointments, notices about visiting relatives, lesson schedules, and changes in plans could be  19 .
We all benefited from and   20  the idea of sharing reminders and daily details of life through notes. I believe the true advantage of the Room Fairy notes survives in our frequent and enjoyable communication.

I really hadn’t meant to yell(吼叫)at them. But that grey afternoon saw it just as my son and daughter were making a terrible mess on the floor in the kitchen.
With a tiresome report to write,I felt bothered at my desk.Suddenly, it occurred to me that my kids were at fault.A voice inside me insisted that I do something quickly.
“OK,you two here.but what an awful thing you are attempting!” shouting angrily, I made for them, while it became evident that the boy wanted no part of me.“Get away from us!” he shouted back, there being expression of support from his sister.
All of a sudden,I found the fault in myself.Quickly I shaped my hands into pincers(螃蟹螯)and crawled towards them,“Crabby(似螃蟹的)Daddy is here Ha,Ha,Ha,he likes to yell at children, and then eat them!” My son continued to keep me away, but now he was laughing and crying at the same time.My mission to repair the damage caused by my yelling seemed to work well.Still,I regretted not having controlled myself first in a right way that my children could do after.
Need I let them know how badly they were acting by blaming? This is a lesson that serves myself. It only shows just how to get rid of something(ill-feelings,responsibility)by blaming others. It’s not my “best self”.
We have to search for our “best self” when with our children. They don’t need perfect parents, but they do need parents who are always trying to get better. Here,I’m reminded of the words of a great thinker,“When a man lives with God,his voice shall be as sweet as the murmur of the brook…” Then,in our lifetime, couldn’t we always speak to our kids in such a sweet voice since, most of us consider them as the most precious in the world? And before we reach this level, what should we do when we come across various difficult cases with our children?
