Question: Why is it so hard for some people to apologize after they’ve done something wrong? I have made every effort to persuade my uncle to be nice to people that he knows he’s hurt.  71   How I wish things would be better if he’d just say he’s sorry and ask them to forgive him.

Answer: 72  It’s just easier for him to pretend nothing happened than to face the embarrassment of admitting he was wrong. You’ve probably done the same thing yourself at some time. In fact, most of us have. Furthermore, what if others won’t forgive him even if he apologizes?

73  Pride blinds us to our mistakes or faults. Or at least it makes us pay less attention to their seriousness.

Pride also makes us unwilling to admit to others that we were wrong. Perhaps we’re afraid they will look down on us if we admit it.  74

But others see through our pride. And things would be far better if we admitted our faults and asked for forgiveness.  75

Now you know why your uncle refuses to apologize, talk to him again. Help him to learn how to apologize and ask for forgiveness from others.

    A. But a deeper reason is pride.

    B. But he just refuses to do that.

    C. We may even hope that somehow they will overlook it.

    D. As a result, you would offend others and hurt their feelings.

    E. There are a variety of reasons for your uncle’s refusal to apologize.

    F. Otherwise our pride would only hurt us and cause conflict with others.

G. One reason your uncle finds it hard to apologize could be embarrassment.

G 根据下句pretend nothing happened than to face the embarrassment of admitting he was wrong.

A 根据Pride blinds us to our mistakes or faults.

Pride also makes us unwilling to admit to others that we were wrong.

And things would be far better if we admitted our faults and asked for forgiveness说明如果我们承认错误会让别人原谅我们。

One day the daughter wandered into a rescue mission for a hot meal . She sat    44    listening to the service , all the while letting her    45    wander over to the bulletin board . There she saw the picture and thought , could that be my mother ?
She couldn’t    46    until the service was over . She stood and went to look .It was her mother , and there were those words , “I love you still…come home !”   47    she stood in front of the picture , she wept . It was too     48    to be true .
It was night , but she was so     49   by the message that she started walking home .   50     the time she arrived it was early in the morning . She was afraid and    51    her way timidly . As she knocked , the door    52     open on its own . She thought someone must have broken into the house . Concerned for her mother’s    53    , the young woman ran to the bedroom and shook her mother awake and said, “It’s me ! It’s me ! I’m home!”
The mother couldn’t believe her eyes . They fell into each other’s arms . The daughter said , “I was so worried and    54     someone had broken in.” The mother replied gently , “No, dear . From the day you left , that door has never been    55    .”

Not too long after I had begun to drive as a teenager, someone pulled out of a parking lot onto the road in front of me. I reacted   36  and pulled up very close behind her--- just to show my irritation(怒气) and let her know she didn't "just   37  with that!" We've all been there with      38  incidents and reactions. My mother was with me, and told me to turn into the   39  parking lot. Safely there, she asked me why I   40  that lady had pulled out in front of me purposely.   41  rude, power play--- I guessed. Mom said that maybe she had just had some bad   42 , maybe she was late picking up her child and was distracted(分心). Think of all the   43  of why someone does something like that. It's usually not on purpose--- but what I do as a reaction is on purpose. She always said that I   44  to think about the other side before I   45 . Usually the reaction causes more of a   46 .
I am in my fifties now, and to this day, that has always   47  my head whenever those   48  happen. I've   49  my children the same thing. We often see and hear about "road rage." No matter to what   50   that "rage" is taken, my children will say something like, "They need Grandma's words!" As adults, I don't see them react as most of us do   51  their first reaction is always anger and irritation --- they   52  it and   53  what the other person's problem might be. Even if the other driver really might be   54  or doing a "power play," no more   55  reactions will occur because of their irritation.
